Mi hanno sostituito prenotazione fatta (per errore) con cambio automatico ad una con cambio manuale, senza alcun problema.

I booked a hire car through Auto Europe for collection from Viaggiare at Catania Airport, Sicily back in August 2025. Despite having already purchased full insurance through the broker, Viaggiare refused to release the vehicle unless we paid for additional coverage. Although my husband objected, the representative was insistent. Only one of us was allowed into the collection point, preventing us from discussing the situation properly, and the language barrier was clearly exploited.
We were coerced into paying €128.52 for additional insurance we didn’t need. I contacted Auto Europe immediately, and they confirmed our policy was fully sufficient. I was assured they would follow up with Viaggiare but could only do so after the rental ended. I followed up with an email, copying Viaggiare.
After returning to the UK, Auto Europe informed me they would not intervene in the complaint and that I should deal directly with Viaggiare. I’ve since exchanged multiple emails with Viaggiare, clearly demonstrating that we complied fully with their terms and conditions. Yet their responses have been minimal and each one inconsistent, and after two months, they still have not done the right thing.
The lack of accountability and customer care from both companies has left a lasting negative impression and I won't touch either company again. I am left with no option but to leave this review and pursue a formal claim via the European Consumer Centre.
This appears to be a recurring issue with Viaggiare—many reviews on Trustpilot reflect similar experiences
Tips for other travellers:
- Check your policy thoroughly and do not agree to pay anything additional until you’ve spoken with your broker (if you have one).
- Keep all rental agreements easily accessible on collecting the vehicle.
- Inspect the car carefully before driving away. Ours was filthy, and several areas of damage were missing from the pick-up ticket, making it difficult to spot defects.

The staff at pick up and drop off were friendly and helpful. More importantly, though, I had a couple questions regarding the car after having it for a few days and they were kind and patient with their explanations. I appreciate them and recommend this company without hesitation.

J'avais loué une voiture via le site "DO You Italy", chez le loueur VIAGIARE RENT A CAR de Catane. Au moment de réaliser l'enregistrement des papiers, l'employée me dit que mon permis de conduire n'est pas accepté, car il est abimé. Je suis très surpris de son avis, Certes il est vrai que mon permis de conduire est ancien (1978) mais il est parfaitement en règle. D'ailleurs j'ai loué une voiture en septembre à Naples, et je n'ai pas eu de problème, et suite au refus de VIAGIARE RENT A CAR de me louer une voiture, j'ai loué une voiture dans une agence en face de chez VIAGIARE RENT A CAR, et là aussi, aucun problème. Je vous signale que j'ai ces dernières années fait plusieurs locations (Espagne, Portugal, Allemagne...) et je n'ai jamais eu aucun problème.
Malgré mes demandes répétées d'avoir une voiture, refus catégorique de l'employée et me demande d'appeler le site "DO You Italy". Il est déjà plus de 19H30 et la nuit arrive, et je dois prévenir le propriétaire de la location, pour lui annoncer mon retard. Impossible de rentrer en communication avec le site "DO You Italy", le centre est indisponible / injoignable. Aussi je demande de l'aide et des conseils à l'employée, pour débloquer cette situation. Mais aucune aide, elle nous laisse nous débrouiller seul, préférant utiliser son smartphone.
Nous sommes 2 personnes de 70 ans, et avons l'habitude de voyager, mais jamais nous avons été aussi mal aidés par une société et son personnel.
Je ne peux rien dire da la qualité des voitures louées par VIAGIARE RENT A CAR de Catane, PAR CONTRE JE NE VOUS RECOMMANDE PAS cette société, eu égard au manque d'assistance et d'aide envers ses clients.

Al momento del ritiro il personale mi ha chiesto se andavo anche in spiaggia e mi ha inserito un ombrellone. Gesto molto apprezzato.
