The current state of VRChat is severely impacted by disruptive behavior, including users using crash avatars, trolls provoking players, frequent racial slurs, and unsupervised young children. These issues have significantly harmed the community experience.

I am stepping away from VRChat until trusted users are given more effective moderation tools to report malicious crashing, harassment, slurs, and unsupervised minors to help restore a safe environment.

With Rec Room shutting down in June 2026 and VRChat moderation relying heavily on automated bots, 2026 has been a particularly challenging year for virtual reality communities.

Pretty decent platform for pissing about with your mates overall. But i dont like how unforgiving the game can be to those on quest, its like ; "dont have the money for a high end pc and a pc compatible headset? Too bad, your framerates are gonna plummet when you near a mirror whilst moving"
"Want to see your mate's avatar in a public instance? Too bad, it's not gonna load unless you're alone." Theres also pretty greedy monetisation, as well as their bad history of not dealing with reports as well as they should. There are some really cool avatars and worlds to pick from though

Little advice? Then lower the game's file size aswell as not locking age-verification behind a vrc+ subscription and try to fix lagging problems on quest pls

I have been a VRChat user for many years, but my recent experience has shown how poorly this platform treats its community when something goes wrong.

My account was permanently suspended in May 2026 for a world I created that contained only simple geometric shapes and a satirical reference in its title. There was no harmful, sexual, violent, extremist, or illegal content, yet the explanation I received was that I violated their Zero Tolerance Policy—a category normally reserved for extremely serious offenses.

After the ban, I submitted around five support tickets asking for:

an explanation of the exact reason for the ban
human review instead of automated responses
clarification of whether automated moderation was used
access to the personal data involved in the decision

Every ticket was ignored, closed automatically, or marked as “solved” with no reply. In the one message I did receive, VRChat refused to provide any details and simply repeated a generic line about Zero Tolerance Policy. When I tried again, my ticket was closed within minutes.

As an EU citizen, I also exercised my legal right to request access to my personal data. VRChat did not answer this either, repeatedly closing GDPR-related requests without addressing them at all.

This raises serious concerns about:

misuse of automated moderation systems
lack of any real customer support
refusal to provide basic transparency
possible mishandling of user data

I have used VRChat for years without issues, and this experience has completely destroyed my trust in the company. The platform seems to rely heavily on automated tools while offering no appeal system, no contact person, and no accountability—and when their system makes a mistake, the user is simply locked out, ignored, and left without answers.

I am currently escalating the issue to the appropriate authorities, as VRChat has repeatedly refused to respond in good faith.

I hope this review helps others understand the risks before investing time, money, or creativity into this platform.

Goated game

VRChat has a sketchy history with serious safety issues, especially around protecting users from predators and pedophiles. The platform has faced heavy criticism including a BBC investigation for weak moderation, slow responses to reports, and letting known groomers stick around too long. Minors often end up in explicit adult spaces, with many users feeling the devs have been too lenient on banning bad actors.
On top of that, the monetization feels predatory. The game is free-to-play, but key features keep getting locked behind VRC+ subscriptions. The biggest complaint is turning the 18+ age verification a core safety tool meant to separate adults from minors into something you basically have to pay for. A lot of people see that as straight-up greedy.
Overall, it often feels like the developers don't prioritize real user safety or community feedback enough, which has left many frustrated despite the game's creative worlds and avatars.
