Extremely Disappointing and Unprofessional Experience
I was initially quoted $16,900 for my 2019 Ford Transit Connect XLT, so naturally, I expected a fair and honest appraisal when I arrived in person. Instead, I was offered just $5,000, which was later increased to $10,000. This was still $6,500 below my original asking price of $16,500, which is approximately in line with the vehicle’s fair market value.
I am extremely disappointed with how this entire process was handled. My vehicle is in very good condition for a seven-year-old vehicle with 87,000 miles. There is no significant mechanical or exterior damage that could reasonably justify such a substantial reduction in value.
The representative claimed there was rust on the vehicle, despite there being no rust anywhere that I could identify. He also pointed to a couple of minor paint chips as justification for lowering the offer by thousands of dollars. These are minor signs of normal wear and tear on a vehicle of this age and mileage, not legitimate reasons for a $10,000 reduction from the original quoted offer.
Furthermore, I disclosed the vehicle’s condition before arriving. I specifically informed the representative that the brakes, calipers, rotors, and ABS components had recently been serviced throughout the vehicle. I have receipts to document this work. I was completely transparent about the vehicle’s condition and expected the same level of honesty and transparency in return.
I also disclosed on the original appraisal that the vehicle needed tires. During the in-person inspection, the representative pointed out that it needed tires as though this were new information. I had already acknowledged this upfront. There should be no surprises when the customer has been honest from the beginning.
My biggest issue is not simply receiving an offer I didn't like; it's being given a high initial quote that creates an expectation of a fair deal, only to have that offer dramatically reduced once I arrive in person. This feels like a bait-and-switch tactic, and it is an incredibly frustrating and unprofessional way to conduct business.
I made the effort to bring my vehicle in based on the original offer, only to feel that my time was wasted. Businesses should provide realistic, transparent estimates upfront rather than making inflated offers to get customers through the door and then presenting dramatically lower numbers in person.
I would strongly encourage anyone considering doing business here to be cautious, get everything in writing, and be prepared for the possibility that the initial offer may not reflect what they are actually willing to pay. Based on my experience, I left extremely dissatisfied with the lack of transparency and the way this appraisal was handled.
