Zero stars if I could

Zero stars if I could. Avoid.

I subscribed to Ancestry and bought a DNA kit which they managed to lose. They sent a replacement, but even registering it was a struggle because their app kept failing to recognise it. After multiple attempts, I finally got it registered and sent my sample back.

Since then, nothing. No updates, no results, no visibility on the app. They’ve simply failed to deliver the service I paid for.

Before even calling them, I tried to resolve this through their AI tool, Leaf, which was completely useless and didn’t solve anything.

When I finally rang customer service, it was just as bad. The background noise was awful, people talking over each other, and it was difficult to even have a conversation. I was told my complaint would be “written down” which is not good enough. I asked to speak to a complaints manager, was put on hold, then told the supervisor was busy. I insisted again, was left waiting, and eventually gave up.

I've spent the last hour trying to find some way to get in touch with them, emails bounce, their AI bot just says to fill in a feedback form.

This is a complete lack of basic customer service and accountability.

I’ve cancelled my subscription and requested a full refund in every way I can. I have absolutely no confidence in Ancestry to handle something as sensitive as DNA properly or securely.

Avoid.

The red flag concern was justified

Decided to find out more about my heritage, the first red flag was the extortionate p&p fee of £9.99 which WAS NOT revealed until right at the end of the check out process. At said point, I nearly cancelled the whole thing. This is a classic ‘drip pricing’ tactic. This turned a bargain price of £39.99 reduced from £49.99, back to £49.98!! They sure know how to get ya! Following this it took 10 weeks to receive my test results. I received 10 weeks of constant pressure to join the membership. I’m so glad I refused to get “hooked” in.
I finally received my result and it was interesting and novel, but I decided not to give them any more of my hard earned money once I discovered they were private equity owned by Blackstone and having worked in private equity many moons ago, they are nothing but vampires.
They won’t be getting any more ££s out of me and I’ve unsubscribed from their constant emails. Shame on you reading all of the complaints from dissatisfied customers. How do these people sleep at night?

Ancestry customer service refused to…

Ancestry customer service refused to help me. I had a paid subscription for one month and for seven hours many green leaf hints on my tree vanished which means I can’t work on the tree until they are restored, customer service informed me that it can take up to 48 hours for the system to update and restore these. I said that since I had paid for a one month subscription then if I can’t make use of it for 1-2 days then I’d like 1-2 days of my membership extended and they refused a very simple request like that. They said since it’s a standard part of their system and not a glitch I would just need to wait up to the 48 hours for it to update. I said it isn’t fair that I pay for one month if I can’t make use of it for the entirety of that one month but they still refused to offer me even that 1-2 days membership extension to make up for the time I can’t use the system. This just exemplifies to me corporate greed where they have no real care for the customer to not even offer something as basic as that when they make lots of money from customers. And at the end of the day if their systems need to update that is their responsibility not the customers. So I’m being penalised for their inefficient systems.

14 day free trail is only 12

I did the dna test. I then went for the 14day free trial. After that a su s iption would be charged unless you cancelled 2 days before renewing. I did this on the 12th day of my free trail to prevent bring charged. However, I was then unable to access any records. I therefor only got 12 days and not 14 days. On phoning about this I was informed I cancelled and my 2 days would not be given back? Why then say to cancel 2 days before payment due. I am very disappointed as I found the dna a waste of time and money.

The human side of Ancestry

My experience today revealed the "Human" side of Ancestry. In these days when we experience a multitude of robotic answers to our questions it is a delight to be able to receive help from an agent who understands the reasons for some questions which are not revealed until a human being becomes involved in answering some queries.
Today I was helped by Lewis ! I had got tangled up in an attempt to secure a refund for an accidental payment to Ancestry which I had failed to cancel.
Lewis understood completely the medical reasons for my inability to cancel in time and arranged for a refund .Thank you Lewis

Ancestry is a top class website.

Ancestry is a top class website with loads of hints available to enable a member to build a good tree. There are educational resources available as well and webcam sessions to help.

Best ever experience

I found a sister who I did not know existed as my mother did not tell me about her. I never knew who my father was and because of DNA I have traced his family. I am happy just knowing who he was and have no interest in upsetting his family.

I have found it quite confusing

I have found it quite confusing. Never sure whether I have actually received my results -you just bombard with emails and different info -all wanting more money out of me. It took so long from sending the test to I think getting my results.
I just wish I could have received one email with clear results and then the offer to do more with it.
