If I could give less I would
If I could give less I would! I strongly advise people not to travel with this company. They are disorganised and most unhelpful. They seem unable to understand the importance of serious dietary requirements and have given me numerous mixed messages. I have since had to cancel my holiday with very upset children! I definitely would not recommend.

Holiday from hell
Holiday from hell. What a joke act Balkan Holidays are. These people couldn't organise a thing.
We are currently in Bansko on a ski-ing holiday, staying at the Premier Luxury hotel (completely misleading name).
Room is supposed to be an executive suite - my husband and I are sleeping on a camp bed! No luxury here. Staff are unwelcoming and not at all friendly or helpful. They all seem miserable to b here. The driver of the bus to and from the slopes has zero manners and is the most miserable of them all. The buffet restaurant staff are very nice , helpful and friendly.
Ski-resort: No paperwork given to us on arrival, so took 4 hours of queues to get ski wear fitted and up to the slopes. No signage or direction on where to go without paperwork. Everyone unhappy. Staff miserable and unhelpful again.
Ski-school: Ski-instructor was present on afternoon of day 1 (missed morning session because of the queues), showed up for the afternoon session of day 2 and not at all on day 3. We did have other teachers but with 20 in the class the sessions are just boring and too much waiting around to keep warm. The new teachers don't know what we've covered, and speak little English, so the lessons and progress are slow. Again, no organisation and no-one around to care.
New year: Balkan holidays confirmed we are booked in for a gala dinner at the hotel and we've just found out we are not. Balkan now closed for the evening and reception just being unhelpful again. We are booked for half board for a week, but because we haven't been booked in for the gala dinner it doesn't look like we have a meal for the night! It is just going from bad to worse.
I cannot wait to be back at home with my dog. We paid ALOT of money for this joke act - we've had our pants well and truly pulled down!
I've been told that this resort is incredibly busy at the moment, and other people have been in other months and it has been busy but nothing like this. It must have been good or they wouldn't come back. The smarmy Balkan rep has said that they've changed their system recently and that was his excuse, but I'm guessing that just means that they've been greedy and taken too many bookings and once you are here (and paid your money) they couldn't give a flying fart. Everyone has been complaining.
In summary, check other reviews before you book using Balkan Holidays. They are an absolute joke of a company. Don't give them any of your hard earned money.
Delayed for over 6 hours
Delayed for over 6 hours, passengers not informed of changes until they were on the plane about disembarking at other points and having to go through checks. Heated situations at points between passengers that the crew could not contain whilst family's were on board. Lack of communication and understanding and no admitting of times of delays at secondary stops that were added a week prior to departing. No offer of compensation offered by airline. Repetitive responses to questions raised in letters. Confusion in points raised between airline, customer services and hotel resort. Luggage taken off at secondary stop causing delay and extra cost whilst on holiday of 4 days and no help offered.

Just had a lovely holiday in Bulgaria
Just had a lovely holiday in Bulgaria, sunny beach, didn't know what to expect, from leaving Bristol to returning we had no problems at all, definitely use this company again
Would give zero stars if possible
Would give zero stars if possible. Our first family holiday to Bulgaria was excellent apart from the travel home. We got an email about 6 days before departure to advise of operational flight change, the time changed due to the fact it wasn’t going direct from Burgas to Belfast and would be stopping for “approx 50 mins” at Edinburgh airport to allow Edinburgh travellers to disembark. Well..
1) Transport turned up to pick up my pregnant wife, 2 year old and me and it was a 7 seater cab with 5 people in it, was told not enough space as we have child?
2) Arrived at Edinburgh airport ahead of schedule at circa 08:15, when parked the air stewardess told all Edinburgh passengers to disembark and Belfast passengers to stay on board ready for swift departure. Around 15 minutes later Belfast passengers were told to disembark and take hand luggage, no mention of what we were to do or where to go just get off basically!
3) Once disembarked, we were held in a queue in international arrivals for over 20 minutes again not being told anything from anyone, handed new boarding passes and told to go through security! All of our bags were scanned and searched 3 times, the special assistance passengers were left in wheelchairs by a door and forgot about! Absolute shambles.
4) Some passengers made their way to desk 12 to check in to Belfast flight to be told by Balkan staff there was NO flight to Belfast and we must seek advice from swissport. Swissport couldn’t tell anyone anything either they were obvlivious. Therefore families with young children and disabled passengers were pretty much left stranded, this went on for well over 1 hour and the arrival Tim in Belfast of 10:00 had well elapsed.
5) We were finally gathered up and told we had to make way to boarding gate 12, although some passengers had called family members to say they had boarded already as advised by other Balkan staff members!
6) Around 11:05 we were back on plane but were told that 4 passengers were missing and if they never showed up they would have to take their hold luggage off and leave behind! Yes leave paying customers behind! 3 of the 4 showed and all of a sudden we were ready to take off!
7) Whilst this happened we had no time to stop for food or drink, I asked the air stewardess for some juice for my daughter to be told that they cannot serve me whilst grounded and due to the flight time from Edinburgh to Belfast there would be no service! Shocking when there was young and elderly passengers!
All in all we won’t be travelling ever again with Balkan airlines, first and last.
What a horrible way to return from an enjoyable vacation!
Avoid, avoid, avoid!!

Disastrous organisation by balkan Holidays
We have travelled with balkan holidays for the first 2 years hassel free. Not sure if management has changed??? but had 3 changes to our holiday, the last being a week before we were due to travel. The first meant our holiday had to move forward by 3 days, then we were re-routed to Belfast via Edinburgh. Had to take off assisted passengers first, 5 people in Edinburgh which was such a stress for them, then we had to take our hand luggage off plane, go traipsing through airport to get new boarding tickets, which didn't work. The Airport staff then directed us back through airport to Swissport, who had to get 90 passengers sorted to go through security. When we went to security.... there was no priority line for us, we had to have to stand in a queue again, and have luggage checked!!!! distasterous and will NEVER Use this holiday company again!!!! Such a shame after having a good experience on previous holidays.

Excellent Flight, would highly recomend!!
Again similar to a recent review on here, we dont know what the bad reviews were all about (may be just plain arrogance / ignorance of some people), however its best to be positive in life as for sure this company is excellent and the whole experience was excellent, as the flight left on time, despite many others at the airport having delays, we boarded without fuss, and within minutes we were on the run way and up in the air... The plane was new and the crew on board were very well dressed, professional, polite and efficient and made the whole experience a very positive one for us. Tnak you BH Air, Well done!

I don't normally leave reviews on airlines, however having read all the bad reviews for Balkan Holidays air flights on here before our flights, and having flown with them last weekend, I have to say - I don't know what the negative reviews are based on, other than ignorance and having the wrong expectations to begin with!
Me and my two daughters had the best experience flying with BHAir last Saturday from Varna to Gatwick. The flight was on time, we even landed 20 min earlier than scheduled. The plane was clean, tidy, the airhostesses dressed in nice red outfits, were polite and helpful, they had to deal with mixed up seats and they managed just fine, there were no customer complains and the plane still left on time, despite all the families travelling with small children and causing confusion on many levels.
The pilot was great, not the normal forced take off, but gradual and smooth. Same with the landing - smooth. Good skill there! We had some turbulence along the way, again not trouble at all, was handled professionally and we almost didn't feel it was there.
All good from our side! Keep a positive attitude and your journeys will be much better, guaranteed!
I am still on holiday
I am still on holiday, I have been here since Saturday, staying at the pomorie. I can honestly say it is the worse hotel I have ever stayed at. I have got a room that I would use as a store room. There is 3 adults and a baby, I couldn’t fit a travel cot in my room so she had to go in with my daughter, she was on my booking.
The food is terrible, I had to wait 10 mins for cutlery, so my food was cold, but it wasn’t that hot to start with.
The toilet in the restaurant is disgusting, the smell is atrocious, I told a member of staff, I don’t they she did anything.
My husband fell in the restaurant because the floor was wet where somebody had spilt something. I have given it a 1 star, only because I couldn’t do no star. People are up at 4am in the morning,to put towels on the beds, when we go to the pool after breakfast, you can’t get a bed.
The all inclusive, you can only get your drinks from 1 bar, the other bars you have to pay.

Traveled with Balkan Holidays to Nessebar in June, no problem! I asked some questions prior to departure, these were all answered quickly and efficiently. Flights were fine, transfers well organised and hotel good. Overall, excellent value for money.

Awful company. Our plane has to go from East Midlands to Gatwick because the plane didn't sell enough tickets. I'm sat on the plane now in east Midlands Airport and its completely full. Check in Was a nightmare. Waited for well over an hour to hand our luggage In. Because some fish faced old goat hadn't got a clue. They didn't deem. My flight time change as an inconvenience despite going from four and half hours to seven and a half hours. Plus loosing a day's holiday as well. I will never use this company again. literally everyone on this plane is complaining of the same thing.. Please please please read your contract carefully with these clowns before you pay for your holiday. I can't stress enough how bad these are. Plane is an hour late taking off too. Tried to get my money back as soo. As they informed me about the changes but no chance. Barrhead travel were little to no help whatsoever.i will give these I wide birth in future. We have a 12 year old child that has to go 8 hours without food has we had no time to get food I. The airport because of the baggage mess and are not allowed to get of at Gatwick so overall its been an amazing experience all round. Take my work for it this company will ruin your holiday before its even started

Check in was a nightmare as it never came up on the screen check in was open
After being there early we had to join a massive queue
We had pre booked our seats as we need the extra leg room and we were given different ones as the plane had to be changed as orginal had someone wrong with it which was smaller
Then we had to land in Romania as pilot announced we had technical problems ( running out of fuel)
We sat on the plane in the sweltering heat and never got free water etc as we got told it comes out of the air hostesses wages
We were sat there for over 1.5 hours
That pilot should never have taken off knowing he did not have enough fuel to get us to our destination
This is a CRIMINAL offence as he put all 188 lives at RISK
When we eventually got to Bulgaria the rep said to us she had been waiting on our plane for 5 hours
This was our 1st and last time we will be using Balkan
Today we were 2 hours delayed in getting home
We have sent an email of complaint to the company and we await the outcome

If I could give 0 stars I would. Avoid this company!! We paid and booked seats from Manchester to varna. The same again going home. When we reached the check in they told a total of nine of us, there were no seats for us on the plane! They took us to Bourgas airport nearly 3 hours away only to be told that they were flying us to Leeds not Manchester! Our car was parked in Manchester. We were left to our own devices as to get from Leeds to Manchester. 110 miles away. Absolute shambles. I will never use again, and will take great delight in telling everyone I know never to use them also

Chose Balken to travel to Bulgaria as the flight times were sensible. Then received e mail to say we were now touching down in Manchester due to lack of bookings from Birmingham. This is complete and utter rubbish. It happens all the time. I can only say the bad reviews are exactly what i would have written. No point in repeating. Even if it is a good deal Balken offer. THINK TWICE. In over 40 years of flight travel,i have never encountered so many problems,delays and distressed passengers. I Thought on arrival at Birmingham there was going to be a riot. Lovely end to a holiday. ONCE AGAIN DO NOT USE.
On third Bulgarian holiday
I've flown to Bulgaria on three holidays and never had one issue. Super flights always on time.
Staff are Bulgarian on the planes but understand your needs and serve you as good as anywhere I've flown.
The hotels we stayed in were all in Nessebar and we have been very happy with the
Holidays we have had, even thinking of booking again this September.
People want to book the most cost effective holiday and expect to be treated like royalty, if your looking royalty treatment fly first class to a five star resort at three times the price.

Don't consider 8.5 hrs minor or dropping off like local bus service trivial.
Booked early flights specifically as have to be back home mid afternoon on return date. Travelling on to Ireland later that afternoon.
Rang Balkan to explain all this and got no sympathy whatsoever. Just that you can cancel but will lose 70% of cost .

Would never use this company again!!! Family trip to Bansko and the service we received was absolutely horrific. Had an issue with our sons skis and the way the rep spoke with us (and another family) was scary. Was no help what so ever no matter how much we complained and after asking to speak with his manager he said "my manager has told me to spend no more time on the matter" never felt so alone in a foreign country. Would recommend Bansko just don't book with Balkan Holidays
