Beware, this company is a scam!

This company is a scam.
I bought an e-book, the link to it doesn't work, the book isn't available when I log in to my account, they don't reply to my complaint... This is simply a scam, don't trust them.

unreadable ebook

I ordered an ebook. Bloomsbury's website provided a link if the customer had trouble downloading the book. All that the link provided was a number of books available to buy. I was unable to download the book I ordered and received absolutely no help. There was no help in the contact information for my issue. I'm really disgusted and would like a refund.

Delighted with Bloomsbury !!

Delighted to find that Bloomsbury have taken up the series of Harry Potter books where Mina Lima left off. I ordered Goblet of Fire with free postage a few days ago and it arrived really quickly and it's stunning !!
I don't know what happened with the negative reviews but I have never had a problem when I have bought books from this seller

Adjusted our rating, see NOTE: 1 Star is even more than their rating…

1 Star is even more than their rating should allow!
Our first and only order with this company would suggest one completely AVOID ordering from them.
From delays in submitting the time-stamped and dated order, to a delay in replying to a status update as to shipping, requesting a tracking number, and discovering the shipping was “handed off” to a different carrier without even asking us are all alleged ‘red flags.’ We shall NEVER use this company again.
An alleged completely pathetic and inexcusable business model which, with their business name removed or redacted, should be a case study in every business school as to ‘How NOT to Conduct Business.’
NOTE: UPDATE on 10/16/2025
PLEASED to share that our friend to whom the ordered book was purchased, notified us today that she received the book, well packaged AND in EXCELLENT condition.

Terrible

Ordered a book from their website, which said I would receive it within 7-10 days. Three weeks later I was still waiting so I emailed them. I didn't receive an answer. Another week later I emailed again and told them I would be claiming a refund if I didn't receive a reply. They did reply this time and said there was a delay at their printers that they were investigating.

I waited another 2 weeks and heard nothing more so I emailed them again. This time they told me they were unable to print the book, it has been withdrawn from sale and they were issuing a refund. No explanation was given for why they could not supply the book or why they had not bothered to tell me or issue a refund until I approached them. They clearly would have just kept the money. Terrible company.

Scammers are impersonating Bloomsbury…

Scammers are impersonating Bloomsbury Publishing Plc to target translators. They provide fake phone numbers (+1 239-493-9946, +1 231-390-8990) and direct people to a fraudulent banking site (equinoxebnking.com). They misuse the name of Bloomsbury’s CEO, Nigel Newton, and list a false office at 1359 Broadway, 12th Floor, New York, NY 10018, USA.
If you are contacted for translation work under Bloomsbury’s name, verify directly with the official company before engaging.

Customer service completely absent, order stuck in limbo

I placed an order via Bloomsbury, which was shipped through Hachette UK Distribution. The tracking shows that the parcel was dispatched and apparently arrived in my city, but then... nothing. It’s been stuck in some kind of logistical limbo ever since.

To make things worse, the tracking information is confusing and unhelpful, offering no clarity about where the parcel actually is or when it might be delivered.

I contacted customer service asking for clarification, but received no response whatsoever. No explanation, no update — not even a basic acknowledgment.

This level of disregard and opacity is unacceptable.
If this is how Bloomsbury treats its customers, it will certainly be my last direct purchase. Better to rely on resellers who care about support and transparency.

5 month wait? Don't even bother with them!

Ordered a book from them in February, had no delivery by April. Initially got told about a printer issue, and was told my purchase would be with me within 2 weeks. 4 months later, and after a handful of phone calls asking where my purchase is and being told another 2 weeks, I'm still yet (another month later) to receive my order. I've asked for a refund but I'm half expecting not to receive that anytime soon!

e-books that you can read wherever you want

They sell DRM-free e-books. You can read them on whatever device you want (kindle, remarkable, phone, ancient computer) without having to use Adobe or any particular reader app/hardware. Compared to other major e-book sellers, there's just no fuss, it just works. And of course they have some great books, that helps 😁

High quality publications matched with superior customer service.

The high quality of their publications is only exceeded by their customer service. I discovered BP about a year or two ago, purchasing the Arden Shakespeare Series. (This is the only way to read Shakespeare.) I've purchased quite a few books from this company and I found their customer service to be friendly and helpful. Intellectually stimulating titles. Good prices (better than B&N.) I recommend this publisher for the avid reader.

Bought 2 books off their website on…

Bought 2 books off their website on February 13th. It's one month later and I haven't received any update even after emailing.

I've emailed again asking for a refund, but since they are not responsive, it looks like I'll have to chargeback. Definitely annoying and won't be purchasing through them again.

No response from Customer Services

A mail to customer services still hasn't been read (or at least no read receipt sent back), after four working days. They sell the Reeds Nautical Almanac with various offers, none of which I presently have.

It would appear from other reports that this is a general complaint.

No customer service here!!!

Called customer service today after sending 2 emails directly to CS inbox. Only 2 people on their team. 1 has been authorised annual leave for the entire month of December (really??? during your one of your busiest months) and 1 other off sick. No offer from any cover within their customer service team to help with an expensive outstanding Xmas order. Shocking.

It was not a misorder, I was MISLED by the website!

I ordered a large print edition of a Harry Potter book in paperback form from the website. I then received a standard paperback copy of the book. When I queried this with 'customer services' by email, I was advised that I had "misordered" and the large print edition was only available in hardback. The website clearly showed the large edition was available in paperback so I provided a photo to the advisor. The advisor said he would pass on my feedback with regards to how it presents on the mobile website.
He then advised that they are not covering the return postage as I had misordered! WOW! This was not misordered, I was MISLED!! Honestly, I am shocked at the lack of customer service. This is now a matter of principle.

Poor service throughout

Summary:
Unable to process a pre-order despite taking my money. They have been investigating this for 4 weeks and are still unable to explain why they can't send me the book.

Detail:
I pre-ordered The Glamour Boys in February 2021. I got a confirmation email saying that this will be processed in August 2021 once the book is published.
Early August I get an email informing me that the book is published and my order is being processed. This was soon followed by another email informing me that my order has been processed, payment taken and the book is on its way and to allow 3-5 days for delivery.
End of August, I gave them a grace period in view of the pandemic and all sorts, I sent an email asking what was happening with my order. I received an email from Jack saying they will investigate this. I gave this a week with no response. So enquired again, noting that on the website the book is in stock, on sale and the delivery dates are the same. There are no pandemic conditions or any other excuses on the website. Another email from Jack just stating that they are still investigating and to give them a few more days.
I have requested a refund as its not likely I am going to get the book. I might be fighting to get the refund next....
