Amazing local wine shop. The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable and always make your visit special. Spend way too much time in here! But it is definitely worth it! Highly recommend if you are visiting Kemptown.

Great service and choice.

After having a particular red whilst away on holiday I tried several of the mainstream wine sellers when I got home with no luck.
Then came across Butlers Wine Cellar, ironically only a couple of miles away, who had exactly what i was looking for and delivered the wine the next day.

Only wished I had found them sooner.

Great range of wines- I managed to get some bottles of a wine I’d really enjoyed at a local restaurant. Next day delivery was brilliant. Keen to try Butler’s suggestions next!

Always reliable in the last 15 years. The owner and his wife always welcome me! Being fairly serious about wine myself, I am always surprised (and a bit humbled) at their encyclopaedic knowledge, especially when it is shown with good humour and wisdom!

I wanted to send friends in London and Brighton mixed cases of wine they wouldn’t ordinarily have as a special thankyou. Cassie and her knowledge of wine made it all so easy! Every detail thought through, delivered on time and superb wines! My friends are still

Helpful recommendations from lovely friendly assistant

A treasure trove of hard to find gems and rare expertise.
We bought a range of wines from entry level Spanish to expensive Brunellos & Barolos. We haven’t had a bad bottle. Last night we cracked an old (2004) Ascheri Barolo and a 2018 Brunello Podere. Granted, not cheap wines but opening them is an event in itself. We are looking forward to going back to reload and see what else we can find.

My experience with Podere Le Ripi Amore & Magia 2018 was unfortunately very disappointing. Considering the reputation and the price point, I expected a wine with richness, depth, and elegance. Instead, the overall profile felt flat and unbalanced. The aromas were muted, lacking the complexity normally associated with Brunello, and the palate did not develop as expected after opening. The tannins came across slightly harsh rather than refined, and the finish was short with an unpleasant rough edge that lingered. Even after allowing the wine to breathe, there was very little improvement in structure or flavour expression. For a wine positioned in the premium category, the experience did not justify the cost, and I would not choose this bottle again based on this tasting. DO NOT BUY IT.

I hadn't previously come across Butler's Wine Cellar, although I've been buying wine online since pretty much the first day the Internet made it possible. They came up in a search for a white Burgundy I'm particularly fond of but which is difficult to find not just in the UK but in France. A good meursault in all but name and a few kilometres. The fact that they sold this particular cuvee (of which the producer makes very limited quantities) suggests both that they have pretty good taste and also a good knowledge of Burgundy. The ordering process was simple and delivery was next day, which puts some of the larger retailers to shame. I'll be going back to look at their site on a regular basis in the hope of discovering a few more treasures like this one.

I was wandering along St George’s Roas when I spotted Butlers Wine Cellar and thought I’d have a look to see if they had any decent white burgundy. The answer was yes! Laura was absolutely charming and pointed me in the right direction. In other words pointing me towards the best value wine not the most expensive! I have found my wine supplier in Brighton.

I made a requested for advice for wines as a gift to three friends, Butler’s came back with several really well thought out wines that matched my price point (no oversell), and exceeded my expectations for choice with clear explanations in each case. I purchased a total of five different wines for the gifts. I was so intrigued I also purchased (for myself) all the other suggestions out of curiosity.
