Classic FM Calm was great to begin with but boy oh boy such a narrow and repetitive library of music. I'm off to find another channel.

I used to be a devoted Classic FM listener
I used to be a devoted Classic FM listener. Especially in my home country of South Africa, where Classic was a delight to listen to. Unfortunately Classic FM here in the UK has deteriorated in my view. As with many other complaints I read, there are too many adverts and too much reliance on certain composers. I’m sure that apart from Carl Jenkins, there are many other outstanding composers. My other serious complaint is that the quality of presenters needs serious review. Where has Alexander Armstrong disappeared to? I have always found him highly entertaining and knowledgeable. I think that the morning presenters believe they are running a pop radio.
BBC 3 offers a slightly better alternative now, but sadly not the best.
Fed up with plugs for their rip-off lottery
I used to listen a lot to Classic FM and enjoyed it. But now it seems we can't have it on for more than 10 minutes without someone banging on about winning a fortune in their lottery... even though the odds are miniscule. Now we listen in the mornings until the first plug for this rip-off and then tuirn to another channel for the day.
Those adverts!
Have listened to ClassicFM ever since it started, but am getting very fed up with it. Cash Call is bad enough, but the cancer adverts, which seem to come on every 20 mins, are intolerable. I know Classic is a commercial station, & funded by adverts, but the constant cancer ones feel like brainwashing/gaslighting, & defeat any relaxing vibe the station is trying to create. Enough already.
Classic fm you should be ashamed
Well used to be my favourite radio station to listen to.
Now I can’t stand the radio
Because of constant advertisements
And into it the cash competition constantly repeating same again and again.
It feels you it’s not radio for classical music to listen but for advertising.
Honestly disgusting.
On top evening classic fm relax 10am ,
Imagine you are enjoying relaxing music
And then they put into it rubbish advertisements. You just lose the test to anymore listen and relax is gone.
Why it calls relax that I have no idea as
When I hear those advertisements I want to throw the radio out of window.
You should be really ashamed what you have done with used to be best station for classical music .
Please not The Hall of Fame again.
The problem is exemplified by the Hall of Fame Hour at 09:00. This is followed at 10:00 by Aled Jones who starts with a piece from the upper reaches of the Hall of Fame and then fills the rest of his three hours with music equally from said Hall of Fame. To avoid the Hall of Fame three hours we now switch to RTE Lyric fm where you find a much greater range of popular classical music. May I suggest that at least we have the Not the 300 Hour when only pieces NOT in the Hall of Fame are played.
Cut the adverts
I love the music, the very limited amount of music. It’s now mostly very annoying adverts & cash call! I constantly turn the sound down or turn off.
Great news that Aled Jones is presenting the morning show. Love his choice of music & his easy to listen presentation
Very dissapointed with the direction classic fm is going
We used to listen to this channel all the time but tuned out in protest at the constant cash competitions and the playing of the same tunes constantly. Surely this channel can do better than this
Beethoven's Pastoral again? Really?
I am tuning in less and less because the repetitive playlist no longer reflects what the station was built for. If Global want the 'Yoof' vote so badly, why don't they buy a station designed for that demographic?
Used to listen to the evening programme…
Used to listen to the evening programme but found the music repetitive (John Barry, Ladies in lavender..),too many inane ads and a presenter who can only list the music to be played with no further insights. He seems more interested in the calls received from Mrs. .in...listening with her cat/dog/ guinea pig.
Switched to Radio 3 where you learn something and no ads or silly padding.
i cant believe the hate on hear for…
i cant believe the hate on hear for CFM. look its not funded by a license fee so there are going to be adverts...but we dont pay the bbc for the privilege so...
also unlike radio3 it mostly plays classical music and not weird world music accompanied by endless droning on by the presenter...
To be a competition
To be a competition, there has to be a skill, knowledge or judgement requirement so as not to require a gambling license. Cash call is a lottery with one prize, unless spelling the word C A S H qualifies as a skill.
Unfortunately all I can now say about…
Unfortunately all I can now say about ClassicFM is 'thank goodness for ClassicFM calm' I've switched off the main channel and use the Global Player playlists 'Hall of fame' or 'Revision' or 'ClassicFM for pets'...the reason..well as most reviews are already pointing out, the original ClassicFM has driven listeners away with the constant (twice hourly!) CashCall promotion...now we also have the National Lottery promoted at times, plus the 'ITV/Global birthday draw'. It is absolutely appalling that all this gambling promotion is even having to be promoted by the presenters at about 30 mins past the hour, plus the ad for it just before the news. Such a shame as this used to be a lovely station.
Could I personally recommend RTE Lyric to anyone thoroughly peeved off with the way ClassicFM has been 'dumbed down'. Although LyricFM is an Irish station, they have an app and can listen through that or via smart speaker. Daytime's they play classical music from around 10am onwards...they don't continually play 'The Lark Ascending' and rarely play Harry Potter or Gone with the wind!!
Have given up listening in despair…..
I have been listening to Classic FM for a very long time but have now concluded I cannot continue. The reason, like many others have expressed, being the wretched advert breaks that increasingly now dominate. The constant repetition of the same inane ads at high volume send me reaching for the “mute” control or in frustration from the room.
Global’s rationale of needing to maximise revenue from ads because of declining listener numbers doesn’t stack up……if listeners are leaving in significant numbers mostly because of the ads how does that work?
So, no more for me. Great shame because I used to love it (and most presenters) and had it playing 8/9 hours per day.
How many times do we have to hear 'Tim…
How many times do we have to hear 'Tim in for Xander.' Who cares in any case?
Richard Calasca
Very very repetitive
Very, very repetitive. Give The Valkyries a well earned rest!
Have had to leave Classic Fm
I have listened to Classic Fm for many years.
I am in my late 80s in a care home and like to have music playing quietly in the background to help me to get to sleep.
The constant interruption for irritating adverts and jingles makes it hopeless to use. I have now switched to "24/7 Classical Radio" which is excellent.
There are no adverts only an occasional quiet voice giving the name of the station. Also there is not so much repetition.
Normally love classic fm but Johnaton…
Normally love classic fm but Johnaton Ross is terrible
“Relaxing evenings on Classic F.M” TOO…
“Relaxing evenings on Classic F.M” TOO LOUD!
I am sure I complained about this several years ago but nothing has been done about it.
Listening to Classic F.M on an Echo Pop late on a Sunday Evening, the sound is lovely, the pieces are luxurious and relaxing… Then out of nowhere “Relaxing evenings on Classic FM” Many times louder than the music, this random announcement is so loud it hurt my ears.
I do not want a jump scare when I am trying to relax and listen to classical music!
I can not have this also because it is not fair to my neighbours and others in my household, I have the volume at the perfect level to be able to enjoy the music without being antisocial and then this announcement spoils it!
I really love Classic F.M but unfortunately I will not be able to listen to it until this very loud and completely unexpected announcement is removed from evening programming, or made to match the volume of the pieces.
Incessant cash call promotions have…
Incessant cash call promotions have made me switch to Radio 3. Classic FM was such a big part of my life, providing the soundtrack to so many days and journeys, but I find it impossible to listen to now. Stop the gambling ads and I would come back.
I’ve listened to classic FM since it…
I’ve listened to classic FM since it began, but it has become very repetitive. There are far too many advertisements, ruining the overall experience, for me at least.
