Received a letter dated 29/4/24 in June. I was in office until 31/5/29 before I was away in June and letter didn't arrive. So date on letter doesn't mean its posted same day. We already submit and pay to HMRC so why do we need to submit to them as well. They even have disclaimer on their site so how reliable is the info on it.

I recently dealt with the CIC part of Companies House. I cannot say enough about how helpful they were. I spoke to three different staff members and they were very quick to return my call or email. Big thanks to Monica, Jake, Lloyd, Natalie and James.

For the third time in a year companies have been registered at my business address though these companies have no connection or permissions associated with the address.
It took over nine months to get the first removed and only after threatening to escalate the complaint. I strongly suspect that each registration was carried out by associated persons as there is a particular idiosyncrasy in the addresses submitted. CH requires the occupant of the property to prove control whereas the registrant is under no such burden. On the first occasion it was necessary to submit evidence containing sensitive information which could be revealed to the registrant yet , when asked if CH had another contact address, I was told that this information was subject to data protection, not what any other address may be but merely if CH held another address.
By their own admission CH do not verify information held but they should, at least, put as much onus on registrants as they do complainants to show rights to use an address.
This could be simply done by requiring evidence when registering online and only completing registration once registration documents have been confirmed by post to the proposed registered office.
It seems that CH are more interested in generating income than maintaining a reliable register.

A once respected organisation is truly awful, unhelpful, dreadful attitude, their online systems are a nightmare to navigate, they only want to threaten you with fines when you try to file dormant accounts. I will be taking action against them if they persist after communicating with these cowboys on several occasions. One person emailed me actual instructions to file dormont accounts which requires a series of 1s and 0s.No common sense in their online systems. If you are setting up a business, perhaps go down the sole trader route, while easy to set up with companies house they are an absolute nightmare to deal with, full of threats and looking to get money by fining people at every turn, truly shocking organisation that needs to be investigated by the police.

Trying to file a simple confirmation statement for my company. What a joke.
Where to begin?!
First, they send an email 'reminder' but it's on the day the statement has to be filed. The email states it's the 'second' one but I never received a first one. Nope, nowhere. ** FAIL **
Then they took me to a sign-in page and typical of all government services it's not compatible with my password manager because they keep changing the sign-in page URL/domain name. Used to be companieshouse.gov.uk but now it's identity.company-information.service.gov.uk ** FAIL **
They email me a 'security code' to help with the sign-in - it takes 25 minutes to arrive. ** FAIL **
I copy and paste it but their system rejects it, telling me to enter it exactly as it is in the email. ** FAIL **
I requested another one but that's taken 40 minutes! But it expires in 30! ** SERIOUS FAIL **
In the meantime I requested one via mobile - I mean, why not use that as the first choice?! ** FAIL **
I try the mobile one and the page hangs. ** FAIL **

I eventually sign-in and am taken round in a loop I can't get out of when seeing if I can change my company address.

Finally, I get that they have to publish publicly all company information but WHY ON EARTH DO THEY FEEL THE NEED TO PUBLISH IT ONLINE? All sorts of weirdos out there piecing together public information, it's not going to take someone on social media that long to find my date of birth and my home address. Companies House is an ancient organisation that has absolutely NO idea of how to use technology.

WOW, JUST WOW. What should be a simple task has become ridiculously painful. I mean, the entire service from start to finish (and bearing in mind I have not even been able to accomplish what I came here to do) is an absolute failure. A failure in user experience, a failure in technical architecture, a failure in user journey, a failure in team leadership to get the right people with the right skills to build this service and to design it well.

Companies House are exempt from GDPR, but they don't have even basic scraping protection on their site so your data will end up all over the internet in all sorts of reseller sites and Chat GPT. It will also likely end up on various foreign government databases. The data will remain exposed for 20 years after you close your company so there's no escape from it. On some forums, such as UKBF, there are cases of people changing their names just to avoid this publicity, it is that bad.
When asked about this, Companies House always reply that the data has to be public by law (which is true) but the law says nothing about making such data exposed to scrapers, and it is indeed crazy that they do not use even basic protection (such as Recaptcha) for such sensitive data.
Anyone that Googles you will not only immediately know your exact age, they will also see your ventures (in my case cringy-named ones from student times) in Google results, whether they are your work colleagues, someone who is interviewing you for a job, someone you're buying a car from or literally any random person you meet (people like to Google each other). It will affect your personal life in ways that you cannot imagine now.
You will also spend time filing data removal requests on various data reseller sites, I do that once every month. Those sites don't have the right to resell your data and happily oblige when requested to remove it, but a few months later you often see your data on them again, and have to repeat the process.
If you're like me and are running a web-based business, you should probably explore other options as a lot of countries offer a better deal on privacy and will be happy to accommodate you. That's what I had to do. I know I will thank myself... in 20 years.

How is their website so, so unusable?? Worst website ever. You better be prepared to wait 24 hours to receive a forgotten password link.

Worst possible 'service', if that is, what it can be called. There is hardly any day where their Online system works or is fully functioning, either it is not possible to get into any company records, as has happened once again since early this morning, or most of the times, when processing a payment, the screen will tell you that they could not process the payment, although in reality, they have taken the money. Happend at least one thousand times over the past two or three years. We manage a very large number of companies, so are in their system every day and all day, but there is hardly any day, where the system works. Surely it is not beyong some IT experts capabilty, to set up a simple system that works once and for all. Companies House does not care about its customers, i.e. the public, they could not care less.

Another useless government run agency I’ve had 2 companies set up with my details but they aren’t interested anyone can do it and they don’t have any checks in place to stop people doing it.
The first time I reported it they asked me to fill in a form to get the company closed down which I did and they said they received then I chased it up a few months later but they denied receiving the form, I even have the emails confirming they received the form then after complaining again they said they aren’t accepting the forms anymore there is a different process now.
I have since had another company set up my in my name but they just ignore my emails now because they don’t care I hope something fraudulent does happen so I can go down the road of suing them for not taking proper action

Absolutely shocking registered my ltd Company then was told 3 working day turn around for certs because there's a back log yeah right all still working from home acting as if there's still covid restrictions. Shows what our tax is getting spent on lazy lazy people that wanna stay home sack the lot of them.

Unbelievable that this institution still operates in its current form. They must be so entrenched in the murky nepotistic world of private school grads in governmental departments that they are somehow untouchable. They certainly wouldnt be allowed to operate as they do in a universe where quality/service/professionalism are a pre-requisite of existence. Lack of communication has meant ive had to fill out the forms for fraudulent company listings at my 90yo inlaws 3 F*********G TIMES!!! You would have thought that an initial copy of the property title deeds would be enough to put a block on any further activity. But oh no, far to simple for CH to actually bother with. Atrocious.

I have always found companies to be house a friendly, helpful, and reliable service with a high professional standard.

I have read the reviews of others on this website with regard to fraudulent use of their home address and suffered 2 such occurrences.

The whole registration system is a farce. ANYONE seems to be able to register a company with your address with NO PROOF that they live or work at that address at all.
In contrast when you try to get the entry corrected you have to prove you live at the address. You have to fill out 2 forms that contains the same details, RP02A and RP07, real pain. You also have to register for an Account to submit them! It then takes over a month for Companies House to get round to processing your forms.

Then comes the absolute farce of the letters. Letters telling me I have submitted the request and have too wait 28 days for the directors to reply and refute the address claim even though I have sent proof that it is my address. Then letters to the "directors" that someone, me, has submitted a challenge to the address. These letters obviously come to me as mine is the the address of the company. When you point this farce out, the rules are the rules.

Then more letters to me and the directors when the change is finally made! As a result of 2 fraudulent addressed companies (Fairly sure the source is of Chinese origin) I have a pile of letters. What happened to being green. They have my email on the correction submission, and the postage costs.

Don't waste your time ringing as the rules are the rules. Basically ANYONE can use your address fraudulently without any proof of ownership of your address.

They facilitate fraud and refuse to act upon instructions to remove fraud data on their records. Someone used my personal details to create a company which is clearly fraudulent. After prompting them about this fraud they do not bother to do anything. A disaster and paradise for fraudsters. They put UK's business reputation (or what's left of it) into distrust and disrepute.

I am a Director of The Lawns (Brenchley) Management Ltd 02190123. Which is not a trading company which only exists to control the access road to this small estate (10 houses)
We do not trade,there is no profit/loss account.
A return is regularly sent to Companies House
Suddenly out of the blue they are asking for these accounts.
Have told them once about the situation. Their response is to ask the same question and threatening action.
Anybody to help me please?

I have been trying to get a fraudulent use of my address removed. However it is proving to be impossible as they say that there is nothing they can do! I have been promised that someone would phone me. Guess what, no one ever does.

Disgusting , someone else using my house address as business address and now I need to prove to them that i have rights to my house and who opened business didn’t need to do that , so AVOID ITS FRAUD!!!!!

Bunch of Sharks who are only after they're own greed! They Couldn't care less if how long stuff takes on there side, however if the business directors miss a date by one day by misleading information given via customer services then they are happy to go ahead and fine you on their own accord.
It's not surprising how the economy is failing in this country with these Sharks in charge!

Sent one single letter saying accounts due by 31st October for a dormant company. I file on the 31st. Then get £150 late fee. I ring them they say that letter didn’t mean that but that the company would be struck off. Very miss leading. Right but I only received that one letter. There reply ‘we sent you two letters and and one email’. Well they didn’t and this is my home address. No record of anything being sent to me and no leg to stand on to appeal as it must be extreme reasons only. What a great scam.
