They give three stars to a company that 89% of people submitting a review on trustpilot etc give one star to and from personal experience can confirm one star is too much.

Like any agency that receives it's funding from the organisations that it reviews - which is by definition a compromise of interest.
In my case a 5* rating for an insurance company that by policy prevents you from having access to your contract documents by locking you out of your account as soon as a claim is made, even to the point where you are prevented from submitting a written claim when a third party hits your vehicle and prevents you from having access to the incident details that are recorded over the phone to the agent that barely understands English - so any errors in that information go unchallenged.
So a 5* rating bears no resemblance to the service you can expect from that company & you would be better served by looking at google reviews where users are able to pass on their actual experiences, rather than the organisation reporting on itself.

5* is meaningless!
A 5* travel policy that does not cover you from Home to destination!!!

Defaqto’s scoring of industries is nonsensical and meaningless in any real sense. Not to mention they don’t provide their scoring system without paying thousands for it. Take a look at any industry and what is getting 5 stars, if you’re aware of that industry you will know that those awarded 5 stars could only possibly get there by some underhand pay offs as they are all underserving. Scam of a ratings company.

Bought Car insurance from Money Supermarket for my son, who just passed his driving test. The quote I got was from Hastings Direct (Your Drive Policy). So far, Defaqto has listed what this insurance covers and don't cover. The star rating is only in regards to the product features and not about the actual Insurer's Service level. You can buy a 5 star defaqto rated product but if the provider has crap customer service, defaqto has nothing to do with that. Defaqto rates the product features only and not the level of customer service. I see few reviewers here ranting about their bad customer service experience and blaming the star rating. In may case, I had no problem with Hastings (luckily) but I wouldn't bark at defaqto if I have something gone wrong with Hastings.

I'm confused as to the point of this company. I used a comparison site (go compare) for travel insurance and started to single out candidates based on the Defaqto star rating. Having narrowed down to a few options I came here to verify their recommendations. Defaqto are rating policies as 5 stars when the provider has only one and a half stars and appalling reviews on trust pilot? They say they gather the data from overall customer feedback from many different sources across the web. Well erm.... clearly not. Has made me question the credibility of Go Compare and will now try another comparison site that doesn't use this agency.

They give insurence companys a fake 5 star review when they are below 3 stars. Scammer of scammers

A scam bisiness giving star rateings to dodgy companies to dellude the consumer into a false sense of safety. These people should be closed down. If you read the reveiws on any of the reveiw sites its all the same negative comments. Haveing experienced scam businesses who have been given FIVE STAR rateings this rateing service is worthless and far worse. Its dangerous

Rubbish rating! Chose 1st central for car insurance as they had a good defaqto rating. Misleading! The company is a scam- charging additional premiums after insuring. Do not trust Defaqto

Needed to cancel my insurance. as am getting a mobility car and the insurance is sorted by them. To cancel I was quoted £118 and asked if I wanted to pay YES or NO. I selected no, but it still cancelled the insurance. I could only speak to them via live chat and was basically told tough!!!! My wife’s insurance is £40 to cancel (a similar yearly priced insurance, due on the same date, just didn’t need to cancel that one). What cowboys!! Really not happy steer clear, it’s one thing to pay for changes, but that takes the biscuit.

Defacto is related to my £3500 cost for repairs due to a breakdown in my Ford which took the Breakdown company CoverMydotcodotuk 4 hours to get to when car was backing a major highway causing 6 mile tailbacks for 4 hours. 7Hour experience with 10 hours to get home.
All breakdown companies are worthless..
Defacto is also at fault.

Very poor service with O2. I phoned up to look at an upgrade and someone promised to call me back at 2pm. No call.
I also needed to change my name to my married name, took 2 phone calls and passed to 6 people, still not sorted or received the link to upload my documents. Looking at moving networks now, shocking service

MISLEADING? IN NO WAY DOES IT SAY IT MEASURES THE CUSTOMER SERVICE PROVIDED BY THE BUSINESS. The defaqto star rating only measures the promised content of whoevers policy you are reading about. BUYER BEWARE!

I didn't ask for the 'Defaqto' ratings when comparing car insurance or breakdown cover but they always seem to be there like some qualified endorsement of a provider. The 'sales@...' email address on their website might have been a clue. Their high rating of Rescumycar.com was far from my own experience - nothing more than decoration, as it turns out.

What's the point of defaqto? The car insurance comparison tools give you their rating but then to expand on the reasons why that rating the defaqto website doesn't show any information about it! Useless

I have recently had dealings with two large companies who had high Defaqto ratings and I was totally amazed by their exceptionally poor service. So much so that I wouldn’t trust this rating system at all. Both companies have admitted that their service was not up to standard and offered us apologies and compensation. The companies were Flow Insurance and Purely Pets.

What is Defacto?
What it is not is a rating on price or service.
There are plenty of websites that say what it is not but no one is saying what it is.
So question what to do measure? they measure "core" something. They update on 1st Feb every year. They do everything EXCEPT tell you what they actually measure . What an absolute con. This is just in industry marketing.

Ratings are worthless, leads you to trust a brand which behave in an underhand manner to bleed you of your money.

Over the years I’ve trusted the experience and opinions of others, including slick looking reviewers like Defaqto. On more than one occasion I’ve had very poor experiences with companies rated highly by them.
On one such occasion I contacted them to share my experience and was told that their criteria for judging things are not, I think, what a normal person values.
So, be careful and don’t place much trust in their ratings!
