Fines increased from £94 to £610

We received 2 PCNS in November 2024 for allegedly not having a valid e vignette in Hungary even though we had no idea we needed one because we drove from Bratislava for ONE day and we avoided tolls…

We did NOT receive any fine directly from the Hungarian authorities giving us the opportunity to pay the fine so how could you lawfully add 50% administration charges on top when we hadn’t had the option to pay the fine?

There was no need for the fine to be passed onto yourselves because we hadn’t been given the opportunity to pay it?

We had NO IDEA we needed a vignette. We have made several appeals, called this company 18 times, sent 8 emails but we kept receiving the same generic response demanding payment.

On 02/01/2025 we spoke to Stuart Hendry the legal manager and solicitor for the company. We explained our genuine situation and he told us he would place the case on hold, read our communication and speak to the Hungarian authorities to ask whether we could just pay the fine amount without any administration costs on top. He said someone would contact us but they never did so we assumed the case was closed down because we received no more letters, emails or communication but clearly this is part of their unlawful business operation to then be able to increase the fines by more than triple and incorrectly and unfairly accuse you of not paying.

DO NOT TRUST WHAT EPC PLC TELL YOU OVER THE PHONE BECAUSE IT IS NOT THE TRUTH. THEY LIE TO YOU, MAKE YOU BELIEVE THEM THEN BACKTRACK IN EMAILS AND INCREASE THE FINES.

Almost 4 months later we have now received more fines from Trace debt recovery asking for approximately £610 to be paid to them so somehow the fines of £47.24 and £47.15 have increased by £510.14 without warning? What legal authority do you have to do this?

EPC PLC did not send anymore letters or follow their own outlined procedures. EPC PLC have now told me i am not allowed to call and speak to their customer service team because they cannot help me and once again demanding payments over £500

I will not be tolerating any further unlawful harassment from Trace debt recovery. I will be updating action fraud, contacting my local MP and reporting both EPC PLC to the police because now you are demanding close to £1000 and you will not provide any proof or evidence to backup the fines and PCNs you are sending and no one will speak to us and my emails and correspondence are NOT been acknowledged

The burden of proof lies with you (EPC PLC) to prove these fines are legitimate, to prove we drove on a road that required a valid e vignette because the images on the PCN could have been taken on any road anywhere in Europe. I need to see proof there was sufficient signage in English and that it was visibly clear to English drivers, driving in a right hand drive vehicle, that they needed a e vignette before driving onto certain roads because we did not see any toll booths or signage or anyone asking us to buy a vignette we just simply continued on the road and we had no idea we had done anything wrong until we received this fine 5 months later.

This is the worst, most frustrating and unprofessional company we have ever dealt with and I don’t understand how people can sleep at night when they work for companies who endeavour to scare, intimidate and frighten vulnerable people into paying an excessive amount of money. Surely you must have empathy?

I have built a comprehensive case against EPC so if you wish to go down the lengthy and costly litigation process to enforce a foreign judgement against us then we will happily be there in court to defend our case, show all our evidence and correspondence and the judge will see you have not followed your own procedures or acknowledged any of our correspondence and the judge will see you have not acted lawfully or got any legal authority to be demanding almost £1000 and our solicitor has confirmed no UK judge would rule this case in your favour.

If you can provide clear proof (as requested on the email on 27/11/2024) that we drove on a road in Hungary that required an e vignette and there was clear signage (in English) and that it was made clear to English drivers, driving in a right hand drive vehicle, that an e vignette was required before driving on the road then i will accept we made a mistake so we will pay the fines of £47.15 and £47.24 directly to the Hungarian authorities but we will not be paying any ridiculous administration costs to yourselves because I will not be paying any money to fund this unfair business operation you have going on because I don’t want to fund your business and risk anymore vulnerable people becoming frightened and intimidated into paying your ridiculous administration costs that you have no legal authority to be charging.

They sent me a picture of the front of a motorcycle in Portugal where obviously there’s no number plate, claiming I owe for some toll charge, I went through they’re appeal system saying if they show me a picture of my plate on the road in question I’ll pay it, no response, instead they send another demand threatening debt collection, a totally scumbag company that relies on bully boy tactics

Jag försöker radera en bil jag sålt men…

Jag försöker radera en bil jag sålt men det går inte! Det enda som händer är att en liten röd ruta kommer upp ett kort tag med texten "Något gick fel vi undersöker problemet". Jag har försökt radera bilen i en veckas tid nu men bilen jag inte längre äger finns fortfarande registrerad på mig. Jag har verkligen ingen lust att betala nästa ägares eventuella avgifter!

Uppdatering!
Det finns tre alternativ när man raderar en bil. Att man sålt den, att man registrerat den av misstag samt att man återkommit från en norgeresa. De två första alternativen fungerar inte men nu lyckades jag till slut radera bilen genom att välja alternativet att jag återkommit från en norgeresa.

Targa incompleta o errata su vignetta

Mi reco alcune volte in Ungheria, a febbraio e settembre del 2024 all’atto dell’acquisto della vignetta la targa della mia auto è stata erroneamente riportata. A febbraio 2025 mi sono arrivate 4 multe andata e ritorno a febbraio 2024 e andata e ritorno a settembre 2024) È stato fornito loro copia libretto di circolazione (incompleta perché la macchina è stata rottamata a gennaio 2025 e quindi non più in nostro possesso fisicamente), copia delle vignette e copia dell’avvenuta rottamazione dell’auto. Tutto ciò il 26 febbraio 2025. Oggi 28 marzo (con una lettera datata 28 febbraio 2025 e senza data di arrivo sulla busta) mi scrivono che non hanno ricevuto la copia del libretto di circolazione e quindi devo pagare per intero quasi 500 euro di multa e non solo le spese amministrative come previsto in questi casi. Oggi ho di nuovo spedito (tramite il loro sito) copia del foglio di rottamazione. Temo mi rispondano di nuovo tra un mese così da obbligarmi a pagare ciò che non devo. Non è corretto il loro modo di fare, sembra serva solo a fare cassa e poi visto che erano in possesso del mio indirizzo mail perché hanno utilizzato la posta tradizionale e non quella elettronica? Per ritardare le risposte e farmi pagare 500 euro per un errore di forma e non di sostanza? (Io ho regolarmente pagato e sborsare 500 euro sinceramente mi sembra un furto)

Irgendwas läuft da nicht richtig!!!

Brief mit korrekter Vorschreibung ist ca. 2 Monate nach Rechnungsdatum bzw. 1. Woche nach Fälligkeitsdatum eingetroffen. Die Forderung zahlte ich taggleich! Ein Monat später erhielt ich die Mahnung, auf welche ich nicht reagierte - habe ja schon bezahlt. Nun verfügt das Unternehmen die Dreistheit die Mahnspesen zusätzlich einzufordern und hat sogar die Eintreibung angedroht.

Wenn man diese Rezensionen liest, dann sieht jeder Prozessmanager auf den ersten Blick die Routine des Fehlers. Somit stellt sich für mich die Frage, ob das Vorgehen bewusst so gewählt wurde? Die rechtlichen Konsequenzen wären somit relativ klar ...

Nach einem Telefonat mit der deutschsprachigen Hotline, welche sich nur in Englisch artikulierten konnte, wurde mir ein kurzfristige Klärung zugesagt.

Bin schon gespannt, ob der Konsumentenschutz anspannt werden muss.

Truffa. E' arrivato un avviso di pagamento il 18 Marzo 2025 datato 22 Febbraio 2025 apparentemente per un crossing non saldato in UK il 2 Luglio 2024. Nella lettera dicono di aver mandato ben due avvisi di cui uno il 28/11/24. Noi non abbiamo mai e poi mai ricevuto questi avvisi e ora chiedono di punto in bianco 135.22 euro??

Hungarian Toll Booth Error

2 years ago, 6th March 2023 I gave my UK Registration Document to a Hungarian Toll Booth Operator who erroneously put the final digit of my vehicle registration wrong on the e-vignette. Nothing, Nothing I could do about that. I knew nothing of what they did on their computer system. to It was their job, a paid job, to do it correctly. I am merely a motorist who relies on someone else being able to do their job correctly. I paid for my e-vignette, and now, 2 years later, epcplc are still sending me emails and letters saying that I owe a fine.
Despite taking time out of my life to repeatedly explain that the Toll staff, and not myself was negligent, and providing a copy of the original e-vignette, which I still have, the hassling continues. I really have had enough and I will be seeking damages for my mental health should this not cease.
The eplcplc replies on Trustpilot are 'submit your evidence and we will look into it.' I've done that, I'm not doing it again and again as they are obviously not being read, and if they are, not understood. My time is valuable, and I will certainly not be paying a 'fine' for someone else's mistake. This does not need 'investigation,' its there in black and white.
I have copied my emails to a newspaper and if I get any more hassling from epcplc I will contact the Financial Ombudsman and my local Member of Parliament.

Faktura för bil vi inte äger, ingen återkoppling

Fick i januari 2025 en faktura för en vägpassering i Norge i juli 2024. För en bil vi inte ägt sen 2020. Överklagade direkt enligt rutinerna de hänvisade till. Noll återkoppling, bara en bekräftelse att överklagan var mottagen.

Idag kom en ny faktura, för samma bil (som vi inte äger) och samma vägpassage. Annat pris nu på passeringen! Lite dyrare denna gång, men administrationsavgiften var lägre. Nytt OCR-nummer.

Det luktar superskumt om detta. Svenska numret som de hänvisar till är ”inte i bruk”. Det blir kontakt med Konsumentverket och eventuellt Polisen nu.

Legally, you are not obligated to pay the fine in the UK because there is no legal mechanism for EU toll fines to be enforced against UK drivers post-Brexit. EPC is a private company, and their letters are simply collection attempts without legal weight. However, if you plan to return to the EU, non-payment could cause problems locally.
EPC are trying their luck with this fine—you do not need to pay them.

Having dealt with them previously, I can tell you they are nothing more than amateur harassers. EPC, don’t bother replying with a contact email address—I certainly won’t be following you or your feeble instructions. You are just a company that buys debt.

We 100% disagree with the misleading and incorrect advice not to pay. EPC is not a debt-buying company, and this fine is not an attempt to “try our luck.” We represent official toll and transport authorities across Europe, and any outstanding fines remain valid and enforceable.
Ignoring your obligation does not make it disappear. Non-payment can lead to further enforcement action, including additional penalties and potential legal proceedings within the issuing country. If you plan to drive in the EU, unpaid fines may result in further complications, including vehicle impoundment or refusal to access toll services.

Only given 1 star because I can’t give 0. What an unprofessional company. Telephone number where no one can give any advise. Conflicting information on the maximisation of charges. Email addresses that don’t work and then given different ones. Only get answers through trustpilot. Letters with no names/ signatures on to let who you are dealing with. Paid one charge and not received a receipt. What jurisdiction do you have issuing charges from foreign countries and threatening with uk courts.

EPC PLC - This is scam - Do not let them fool you…..

Got a letter from EPC PLC today stating that they have handled my case and that I am entitled to a refund of EUR 155. The funny thing is that it’s for a registration number that has never left Sweden. The car is only used for short trips, mostly sits idle, and is rarely driven. I haven’t even complained about any fines or anything similar for that reason, yet they are very eager to get all my bank details… Scam - Scam - Scam!

According to their website, they operate in Ireland, the UK, Hungary, and Portugal…

The whole thing has been reported to the police.

A pretty unpleasant company

They sent me a letter with four different fines. The fines were dated from 03/01/2025, the letter said that I needed to pay twice the normal amount and if I didn't pay within a month then it would be four times the normal amount for ULEZ. The crazy thing is I actually paid the ULEZ. By the time I got the letter it looks like they passed it on to a debt collector so even if i did want to pay it, I couldn't. They're clearly a scam company. Although they claim to operate within the law, my lawyer said I probably have a good case if it goes to court.

Company with a history of claiming to have power to enforce European fines

Drove 3500 miles in Spain & Portugal in October 2024. Great trip, no issues, no parking fines.
Paid all tolls with bank card, no sign payment rejected anywhere. No issues . No ignoring tolls ( you can't !!) , no breaking law. 4 months later received 3 letters detailing tolls 1.01 , 1.54 2.42 and fines 10 x that in Portugal . Looking on here and other reviews sites, this company has a history of sending out letters like that. It look like hundreds of people ( going back years) have been harassed by these official looking letters claiming powers to collect fines from Europe.
I attempted the " contact form" , except you can't submit that without consenting to your data being shared!. The company may say in response to terrible reviews on here " we are not scammers" but they do not appear reputable . We have taken advise and been advised not to pay anything at all and that this company does not have any right to enforce anything here re these " fines". If we could have contacted them without consenting to surrender all our date this is what we would say: We have not failed to pay fines ( whatever the ridiculous blurry picture purports), we have been caused alarm and will consider any further similar communications as harassment.

Fraudulent business

I recieved a letter via mail 31/1-25 for a parking ticket in Copenhagen 1/9-24 (5 months later) with due date 7/1-25, however due date was already passed by 3 weeks (!) so there was no chance to pay on time. The letter was dated 23/12-24 but there was no time stamp on the envelope so probably not posted then as mail service in Sweden is very efficient and it would not take 5 weeks to get a mail. I paid the 1695 SEK the soonest and notified EPCPLC on line and via email. On the 25/2-25 I received via the mail another invoice of 1857 SEK e.g. an increase with 162 SEK with due date 2/2-25 (!!!!!) which was 3 weeks ago and again no post stamp on the envelope. This is an eternal loop. No serious business would behave this way. I have to date not had ANY response from EPCPLC on my email or online submission 3 weeks ago.

betaling tolweg in Noorwegen

Op 22 oktober 2024 ontvingen we een factuur voor gebruik van een tolweg. De uiterste betaaldatum zoals vermeld op de factuur was 21 oktober 2024.
De tol a 9 euro plus administratiekosten a 13.50 euro is betaald op 22 oktober 2024 in Noorse kronen: 250 NOK
In december ontvingen we een aanmaning gedateerd 8-12-2024 met een zogenaamd resterend bedrag a 8.34 euro.
Ik heb daarop gereclameerd , maar EPC doet alsof ze mijn klacht niet begrijpen.
Op 14 januari 2025 hebben we opnieuw een bedrag overgemaakt a 15.09 euro waar EPC recht op denkt te hebben.
Op deze betaling hebben we per omgaande een betalingsbevestigingsmail gekregen van EPC plc.
Op 22 februari 2025 onvangen we opnieuw een brief gedateeerd 11 januari 2025 met een laatste aanmaning om de tol te betalen inclusief administratiekosten en aanmaningskosten a 15.09 euro.
Dat bedrag is dus al overgemaakt op 14 januari.

Het proces is heel ondoorzichtig en de communicatie over de post (priority) heel traag, waardoor betalingstermijnen bijvoorbaat al worden overschreden.
Zeer slechte service en hoge kosten. Nu al 4 maal de kosten van de tolweg.

Ik ben nog eens verder gaan zoeken en zie nu bij EPASS24 dat al mijn rekeningen voor tolwegen in Scandinavie zijn voldaan op 7 september 2024.
Verder staat in de aanmaning dat ik op 26 augustus 2024 bij Bjorkheim een tolweg zou hebben gebruikt. We zijn zelfs niet in de buurt geweest.
Kortom deze factuur en aanmaning berust op een 'misverstand'.
Hoe komt EPC aan deze onjuiste gegevens? En waarom sturen ze een aanmaning over een tol die nooit geheven is?

Automatisation des péages défaillante et sans intelligence

Idem que bien des expériences déjà décrites ici. Je loue une voiture chez SIXT au Portugal avec un boitier de paiement électronique pour les péages (payant : 17 EUR). A la fin, et très normalement, SIXT me fait payer les péages du séjour...sauf que le dernier passage au péage n'a pas été télétransmis à SIXT en temps et en heures et que EPCPLC me le réclame 6 mois plus tard, le tout pour une somme totale avec pénalités de 10 eur.
Je fais une réclamation pour à minima ne pas payer ces pénalités et la réponse est digne d'une intelligence artificielle (pas au point) me rappelant les conditions d'utilisation des autoroutes au Portugal (et donc sans rapport avec les circonstances décrites). Un bel exemple d'automatisation avec les bugs afférents non assumés par la compagnie. J'ai payé mais ce mode de fonctionnement reste honteux! Merci de m'épargner les excuses de la compagnie via ce site, il serait préférable de faire des réponses plus appropriées lors des réclamations!
Après lecture de leur réponse et une ultime réclamation via l adresse mail indiquée : Pathétique! Ce serait la société de location qui serait responsable de la transmission des données de péage ! Tout cela me fait penser à un vieux film médiocre des années 80: C est pas moi, c'est lui! La note d évaluation de cette société n'est pas prête de remonter avec de telles réponses !

Les péages électroniques nécessitent une transmission correcte des données par les sociétés de location de voitures, et dans certains cas, des retards peuvent entraîner des notifications ultérieures. Si vous pensez que des frais ont été appliqués de manière incorrecte, nous sommes disposés à revoir votre cas et à trouver une solution appropriée.

Doppelt abkassieren, Strafzettel aus GB

Im August 2024 sind wir im England-Urlaub versehntlich über eine Bus-Spur gefahren. Am 20.01.2025 haben wir einen Brief von EPCPLC mit einer Zahlungsaufforderung in Höhe von 88,51 € bekommen. Im Brief stand, wenn wir innerhalb von 21 Tagen zahlen gilt ein ermäßigter Tarif in Höhe von 44,25 €. Wir haben 2 Tage später den ermäßigten Betrag überwiesen.
Am 15.02.2025 erneut Post von EPCPLC bekommen. Nun wollen sie tatsächlich ingesamt 132,77 € haben.
Die schriftliche Begründung für die Forderung endet in einem Halbsatz "...Da keine vollständige Zahlung getätigt wurde, hat sich..." da endet der Satz. Ich habe innerhalb der 21 Tage-Frist den reduzierten Satz bezahlt und kann nicht nachvollziehen, warum noch mal nachgekartet wurde. Das scheint allerdings zum Geschäftsmodell dieses Unternehmens zu gehören. Die Briefe kamen aus Schweden ohne Datumsstempel.

These people must be scammers.

I bought a toll pass for Hungary yet still received a fine. I submitted an appeal but they rejected it because I didn't include a photo of my registration documents. I re-sent an email with the correct documents and they rejected it again. When I asked why it was rejected, the only response I received was "there's another reason".

They didn't even tell me the reason! It feels like they're just avoiding it on purpose to increase the fine, because I can't think of why they would be so useless.
