A Warning About Booking Through AARP…

A Warning About Booking Through AARP Expedia

I booked a graduation trip to Paris for my daughter through AARP Expedia. During checkout, the website froze after I submitted my payment. There was no confirmation, no error message, and no way to know whether the purchase had gone through. Like many customers would, I tried again.

That moment changed everything.

What should have been one reservation turned into months of confusion, disputes, and thousands of dollars in charges I never intended to make. Since March, I have spent countless hours on the phone with Expedia, airlines, hotels, and my bank trying to resolve what began with a frozen checkout screen. I just gave up as this was costing me more of my time (4 months already), and money, I paid to end this situation, and I feel robbed, I feel like I have been in a black hole. As the transaction existed and it is in file with them, there is nothing I could do to demonstrate their system failure and the frozen screens. They told me that you cannot cancel an hotel reservation once done, no time to cancel, that is their policy, in addition they charged me a delta ticket to Paris that do not exist, I got proof from delta that there was no ticket on my name. I am so exhausted!! Also I am disappointed at the service I got from Bank of America as I am their customer now for 26 years, in spite of the letters, delta communications they could not help more.

I looked for AARP support as I supposed AARP would defend a senior citizen like me, one person called and never called back again, very disappointing! I am going to cancel AARP now.

I recommend you do not use this online service, deal directly with hotels and airlines, do not use this. In general Think twice before using an online third party to make your reservations.

SYSTEMATIC FAILURE/LIES ON REFUNDS/ENDLESS EVIDENCE

SYSTEMATIC FAILURE/LIES ON REFUNDS:
aarp paying member, was forced to buy a return ticket at gate, but, still denied boarding, immediately cancelled and even purchased cancellation coverage with ticket, recorded calll confirming cancellation and refund and have the email still from march confirming full refund. expedia/aarp only internally refunded the cancellation policy haha they even scammed me out of the 84 insurance, so when I noticed my ticket was still active, I attempted to cancel myself before the return flight in June but was told "my cancellation insurance was cancelled" wowwwww next level scam artists. They dragged it out long enough that when I went to my bank with all my documentation they would try to escalate past the 60 day policy which is obviously why they delayed it. DOT and FTC, get ready for some very organized claims :)

Absolutely NOT worth the 10% savings

Absolutely NOT worth the 10% savings. You pay in advance for a REFUNDABLE hotel reservation that you only see pictures of and, when it doesn’t work out, it’s a giant hassle to make a change. This was my first time to use this reservation method and it will be my last. Room not clean, bathroom has moldy ceiling, and pool out for the weekend during a heat wave. Wanted to move to a different hotel, but AARP Travel had to contact the property “for permission to refund” first. Only the manager can approve refunds, but Mgr not in until 3 so I’ll be charged for the day. Had I not booked through AARP Travel (which is really just Expedia), I could have simply checked out and been on my merry way. What’s the point of selecting a refundable reservation? Never again!!

Beware of false reviews. Scam

its a total scam. You cannot trust the reviews published by Expedia /AARP. Make a reservation at a hotel that is highly rated and when you check in, its totally not as the reviews stated. 8.8 rating for example, one assumes its out of 10, but I can show photos where its 8.8 out of 100 and of course no changes, refunds or cancelations. So suck it up or move to another hotel on your own. Re. Hotel Conquistador Ciudad de Juarez, but this isn't my first experience that was negative and reviewing properties is impossible on the Expedia/AARP reservations site.

3 hours on the phone

First I will say that the reason I needed to make a change in the return flight was my fault. I tried to make the change through the airline but was told that it needed to be changed through the agent, expedia, then was told aarp. After being given 4 different numbers to call for aarp, I got a foreign agent and spent 45 minutes to be told the change fee was 260 and then that was charged to over 300 and the "travel insurance " that I purchased didn't cover anything! Never ever will use aarp travel again! PS: Just found out cs guy didn't check that I was within the 24 hrs window to cancel so gave me bad information.

Unhappy with our stay

This review is for the Fairfield Inn by Marriott in Exeter, NH. The hotel was under renovation which we were not informed of ahead of time! Parking lot was full of construction pods that made many parking spaces unavailable to customers. Half the lobby area was full of dirty, dusty bathroom furnishings and this was our breakfast table view along with a poorly disguised waste water pipe. Had no cold water available in our room’s sink and tub and we reported this twice to the front desk. We ask for and were given 3 room keys at check-in but only 1 worked! We had to go to the front desk to have this corrected. There was a wet and dirty wash cloth from previous guest left in our shower. And we were charged full price for all of this!
