We have used this vet for 30 years but never again. We took our dog there last week as he was vomiting badly and had the runs..The vet was lovely and kept him in. He hae a couple of scans and a drip and some meds.At 6.30 it was decided he needed keeping in. The out of hours vet wasnt available at another vets so after rwo and a half hours we drove our very ill dog to Bridlington arriving about 10.They were very kind but very pessimistic on the outcome
Not only did he survive after having two stomach drains, many medications and 3 overnight atays..The final bill was just £200 more than 8 hours he spent at Haven. Sorry Haven but no overnight facility, very expensive and no communication about steps to take or money outcome if not insured..One lost customer.

Weight was 28 kg just before I went in to see vet. Told the vet what the problem was. She asked me weight of dog was I told the vet 28 kg. Then she checked heart and looked at her problem. Was given tablets to give once a day which included 2 tablets. Came home after spending over £100 for an additional urine collection. Couldn’t collect urine. But when I looked at the packet it says my dog was 31 kg.Phoned up and told them. Receptionist asked if I wanted to speak to vet. I said no. I also told her my dog was very lethargic and had diarrhoea.Had to find this out myself on internet. Money is the name of the game here as in many vet practices which have been taken over by large corporations. So dissatisfied with all of this.

Blood sucking money grabbers that would rather see your beloved pet die than help

Worst money orientated vets I've been to, "V for Vets"in norwich is much cheaper and Caister vets are also better than this practice, wouldn't trust my pets with the indoctrinated vet I saw,although I dare say there is better vets in the same building, I just got unlucky.

I believe that people who work as a receptionist at a vets surgery should be more empathic and compassionate. I called the vets about an hour ago to see about getting my pet in today clearly as an emergency! All the receptionist could do is sigh and huff over the phone. To me it didn’t seem she was bothered about my pet or gave me any info. If you read my file I’ve just lost a pet so maybe some people skills wouldn’t go amiss!

Took my dog there, as I couldn't get an appointment at my regular vet's.

The dog has a recurring problem, that my usual vet normally deals with for under £100

Dog was poorly and couldn't wait for an appointment, so I got an appointment at the Holland Road, Clacton Branch of Haven.

Took the dog down there to see a young female vet, with whom I didn't have a lot of confidence. As she didn't seem to know what she was talking about, was more interested in what she could sell me, bear in mind I've been breeding dogs for over thirty years. And already knew what was wrong with the dog. And what medication he had been given, which was basically Antibiotics and Steroid tablets. After a 10-day course, he would be back to 100% fitness

Some three appointments later the dog is worse than ever £300 poorer, absolute scam merchants.

Steer clear of these frauds.

Also, Haven doesn't volunteer the fact they have been bought out by a massive pet care company. Kilfauns has done the same, there are no independent vets in Clacton anymore.

Can’t help thinking my Cocker Spaniel (Bailey) would still be alive if I had pet insurance.

We changed his flea treatment from frontline to Nexgard because it wasn’t as effective as usual & that’s when he started to go downhill, changing his flea treatment might just be coincidental

He started drinking huge amounts of water.
Tests revealed he was diabetic but this could be treated & after yet more tests, they said we think he has a problem with his liver, my bill now £1200
Tests revealed his liver was like Swiss cheese but they never showed me any evidence of this like any ultrasound pictures on his computer, they also said it’s just a matter of time before you’ll start seeing blood in his poo, he didn’t have this, all speculation of course.

They recommended he be put down, I was distraught hearing this.
It’s been a week now since I lost him & it got me thinking?

His diabetes could have been treated, they didn’t show any evidence of this supposedly ultrasound test on his liver, incidentally Bailey never shows any signs of liver disease.
Developing blood in his poo was pure speculation, he never had this at the time.

Basically they put him down because of the cost of treating him & they didn’t want my final bill to get any higher, now £1200

He was only 10 years old & dealing with his lose is very difficult, I miss him so much.
I’ve lost 3 dogs over the last 40 years but loosing Bailey has killed me inside
& I believe 100% they killed him over money
Not sure if I’ll ever get another dog, but I’ll never use Haven vets again, if I do & I’ll most definitely get pet insurance

My advice
Don’t use this veterinary practice, they don’t really care about your pet, they just want to milk as much as they can out of you, if they think you can’t afford it, they’d rather put your pet down!!
most definitely get pet insurance because vet fees are ridiculous high.

a disgusting vets my sisters dog kept dieing and we managed bring her back vets are just sending her home because she dont have 1500 to pay in 1 day they want 600 pound just to scan the dog all these vets are is about the money not the care disgusting disgracfull vets they dont care about the animals all they care about the money im removing all my animals with these and cancelling my insurance with them and moving my animals to anothe vets that actually care and not money orinated if i could give minus stars i woud outragious
