Sadly what started as a positive experience with this dealer was marred by their refusal to accept that the bike they sold me was not as advertised and not in anything like an acceptable condition.

Having been assured, initially by the advert and subsequently by the salesman, that the bike was in 'superb condition throughout', I purchased a 2009 Ducati 1198s for £8495.

The problems started the day of delivery when I was shouted at by the delivery driver, seemingly for not being outside waiting for him, when I had only been given an approximate delivery time. I then noticed a gouge on the fairing that I had not been made aware of.

A call to the dealership to voice my dissatisfaction with both of these issues ended with a promise to investigate and call me back, which didn't happen.

After a first ride a few days later I came back to oil on my right boot. Investigation identified that this was down to the breather hose from the crankshaft not being connected and was in fact wedged up under the tank, presumably from when the dealership serviced the bike. This cost me £40 in replacement parts to rectify.

The bike also had clutch issues, being very hard to select neutral, slipping under acceleration and 'crawling' whilst stopped. I investigated further and found a leaking clutch slave cyclinder. An email to the dealership again, notifying them of the issue and their failure to get back to me from the previous issues, yielded no response.

Replacing the slave cylinder and bleeding the system didn't fix the issue so I dismantled the clutch to investigate further. Whilst the fairing was off I noticed that the oil level was so full the inspection window was full. I ended up having to drain off 0.6l just to get the volume down to the maximum recommended amount.

Dismantling the clutch revealed worn springs that had to be replaced and I was astonished to find that the clutch stack plates were incorrect, having one too few steels, no convex plate and too many friction plates, meaning I had to replace these too.

Making the dealership aware of these additional issues did at least result initially in an offer for me to return the bike to them for them to investigate and then for them to offer to collect the bike for them to remedy. Given the poor servicing that clearly had taken place I was reluctant to let them work on the bike again as they didn't seem to know what they were doing, at least with a Ducati. I ended up spending over £800 on replacement parts to fix the mechanical issues, plus my labour so I requested a refund of this amount which was refused.

I am now having to recover my losses through a credit card section 75 claim.

Excellent experience throughout. I live around 200 miles from Hunts but I saw a bike I wanted on eBay. My telephone enquiry was dealt with politely and professionally, a fair price was offered for my part exchange bike and around a week later my new (to me) bike was delivered. It was exactly as described. Excellent service throughout - highly recommended.

Bought my Yamaha XSR900 GP from Hunts last year and the service was brilliant, very helpful couldn't ask for more, I also have just brought it back for a service which was booked in so fast and they did it while I waited, they even had free drinks machine! 100 Stars from me!

Went to test ride a couple of bikes (only one of 4 dealers/manufacturers that got back to me when I submitted test ride requests for an R9) and John and team couldn't have been more accommodating and helpful. Chose the red/white R9 and traded in my MT07 (got from Hunts 18 months ago).
