Using as a savings for my daughter
Laurel Road was suggested to me by a coworker as a savings account for my daughter. The process to open an account was very straightforward and quick. The true test will be in the actual banking processes! So far deposits from my own checking account have been easy, it just takes a few days to process. 10/10 as of now overall!

Worst experience with any bank so far
I've had plenty of different banks throughout the years and this is hands-down the worst experience I've had with any of them. Online-only banks make sense. The speed of every transaction with this institution can be done faster by physical mail and you have to factor in just how frustrating this can be and how many issues this can lead to in your finances.
I stopped using the account and it went into negative. I funded it and transferred out the remaining balance to my new bank. They flagged this activity and locked my account without notifying me - keeping over a thousand dollars of my money away from me without a rhyme or reason.
The mobile app is on par for 2010. The support people are nice, but never have an idea how to help you. They earned their single star by actually awarding me the sign-up bonus. That's all they're good for. Trash.

I have read lots of reviews of lauroad road. Wondering why do customers account got locked out after they deposited their money in? Some people put all their money in this bank because of their attractive welcome bonus, then now they can not get their money back, what if they need the money urgently.
You guys say it might take up to 30 business days to review before release the restricted account? What do you guys do before people open their their accounts? you guys don't need to review their application before they opened their accounts?Then after they deposit money in then say reviewing? in my experience, no bank would ever do that, and plus which bank will take up to 30 days to review an account?

AVOID!! Account closed, money not refunded
AVOID THIS BANK!!! Appalling experience. Laurel Road has locked me out of my money for MONTHS. I opened an account, deposited several thousand dollars into it, and they closed it a few days later. No notice -- I was just locked out. I didn't discover it had been closed until I called to ask why I couldn't log in. Apparently they suspected "fraud," but didn't provide any further explanation (and I can't address their concerns because they won't tell me what they are). They said they would return the funds via check to my other bank -- that was over two months ago and I still haven't seen a cent. This is the bulk of my savings... just gone.
I've called, emailed, filed consumer complaints with the CFPB and OCC, and am hoping I don't have to file a lawsuit. I've never encountered anything like this in my life and am beyond shocked that it's even possible. Take your money literally anywhere else before you bank with these people.

Do not do business with these people! I’ve been a customer with them for over a year and a perfect customer (ie: Never bounced a check or overdrawn any of my accounts ever in my life!) Suddenly, without warning, I can’t sign in to the app and a red message appears that says my account is restricted for “verification” reasons. Ok, so I figure this would be easy to fix and no big deal right? WRONG!!! The sent me an encrypted email and “request” (demand) that I send in documentation to verify my address. (Never mind that the email addresses me by the incorrect name and contains misspellings that make it look like phishing or a scam! The irony.) I immediately provide two items from the list (they only asked for one) a copy of a recent bank statement from another bank (that shows I’ve had open for over 5-10 years) and a copy of my state vehicle registration. I sent that 36 hours ago. I’m told that they’ve received it and they submitted it (whatever that means?) and it will be reviewed. I called in and now they tell me it’s going to be a minimum of 3-5 additional business days before they review it! Are you effing kidding me? I pointed out to the “Premium Care” representative that my address hasn’t changed in years and the address currently on there is the same one I opened the account with over a year ago! The agent looks at it and agrees and says this doesn’t make sense. No duh! 🙄 So you would think this could now be resolved fairly quickly, right? NOPE!!! Now they say they can see my address hasn’t changed (DUH!) but evidently there’s a glitch in their system that got triggered when I opened a new second account with Key Bank over 10 days ago with nothing unusual or wrong with. They basically tell me I’m screwed and there’s nothing I can do about it except wait…. But they don’t know how long. 🤦♂️ Trust is a two way street. You mistrust me and effed up. Now I don’t trust Laurel Road or KeyBank and neither should you! Get your student loans elsewhere and open bank accounts with banks that can be trusted… not with these amateurs who are supposed to manage my money with honesty and integrity, which they have none! You have been warned. Don’t fall for the cheap sales talk on the website or over the phone. Find another online bank or a credit union. These jerks have already wasted over 12 hours of my time on multiple phone calls, submitting online documents and having to call other parties who are waiting for their money and I can’t send it to them because these morons freeze my account for no legitimate reason! I’ve already drafted a complaint to the CFPB, FDIC, OCC and I’m working on the one for our attorney general, Bob Ferguson who doesn’t tolerate this B.S. Evidently Key Bank doesn’t realize that you better not pull these shenanigans and scams on Washington State residents. Well, F.A.F.O!

Their customer service is useless - avoid
Their customer service is useless. I actually never got to open my account, which I am grateful for because I dodged a bullet. I tried to open an account for savings but there was some sort of admin error that you think would be easy enough to resolve with a phone call or email. 2 months later, they keep telling me to do the same exact thing that has wasted my time and not resolved the situation. Impossibly frustrating. I finally told them that I am no longer interested, yet they still keep saying that they are going to fix the issue. After reading more reviews about poor experiences with customer service and account servicing issues, I don't think you actually want to entrust them with your money, no matter how enticing the interest rate seems. Go for Marcus or Betterment for high yield savings.

Literally locked my account the day I got paid from the U.S army and now there telling me they can’t get me any help for 2 hours I have bills to pay this is horrible do not recommend.
So my husbands check was deposited into my account and there saying thats grounds for fraud when I tired to add my husband to the account and we’ve done everything necessary to verify him as we have the same address are marriage certificate and everything they asked for but still told they can’t do a thing while we sit here and suffer.
Update have tired to now close the account to receive my money that was direct deposited back which they are legally obligated to do (unless the account is in the negatives) but of course there saying “oh we can’t release the funds at this time then ask for a reason and guess what they can’t have been fighting this bank for 12 hours do not bank with them you will be fighting through them and key bank,there fraud team and security team all to be told we can’t do this and that well what can you do.
All I’m asking laurel road is to close my account I’m not asking for anything else other than the funds I earned through my work in the United States ARMY to be returned to my employer nothing more which you are obligated to do so please reach out and fix this your causing me to not be able to provide for my family “because you can’t release the funds”

Now they are saying we have a overdraft and have a balance of $ -20 in are account stating they sent the money back are employer but when we ask for proof they say it can take 48 hours to get proof and they keep saying we will call back but yet don’t call back ever.Also there stating they never received are direct deposit as if there trying to cover up the money for some reason.
So far we’ve had to submit
1.marriage certificates
2.driver licenses
3.notary (stating that husband allows his check to clear in my account as his wife).

Laurel Rd-Abosulutely Horrible One of the worst banks/experience ever
Laurel rd I thought you are promising and was going to be a good bank for me ,But it ended up been a great mistake for me as they held up to my monthly pay. I received a letter from key bank implying I confirmed fraud on my account of which I never did.. The letter also states that the account hold is typically 10 days of which it's been well over a month. Since i can not access my account I can not pay rent,, utilities, buy groceries, I can't even pay for extremely important medicine that I need.. or other important things. This is all I have we have been on it for more than a month I have sent all they ask. Calling everyday they are not helping and just lieing ,I am sick and I need my money for my medicine .Will it be nice if I lose my life ,While you holding on to my money .I never wrote to you or called of any fraud in the account ,You just assumed and restrict my account I have done nothing wrong I have submitted all documents. Please lift the restrictions and let me have access to my money today. If you still do not lift the uncessary restriction that you placed on account I have no choice but to call the feds. Thanks I am dieing (For reference only- Date of Letter from Keybank that account has been restricted 11/16/2023).

Saving Account LOCKED right after depositing money
I'm surprised to learn that so many other customers had or are having the same experience as I did - I opened a High Yield Savings account, transferred money from my own bank, and bang, they LOCKED my account for more than 2 months! I couldn't use my own money to do anything! I had to send over forms and even had to find a notary to prove my identity. Also, I submitted a request to add my wife as a co-owner, we submitted all the paperwork, twice, and the application 'expired' TWICE. I don't even know how this business exist. Do your self a favor, STAY AWAY.
