Diploma in Fire Risk Assessment
I wanted to strengthen and underpin my knowledge in fire risk assessment and, after a lot of research, chose the National Safety Academy. Having now completed the Level 10 Diploma, I can honestly say it was the right choice for me.
I had started off with one of the free CPD modules and really liked the feel of the platform, which was intuitive to navigate, engaging and really immersive.
The quality of the course content and learning platform really suited my circumstances, balancing professional learning with a full time job and understanding family. A key benefit for me was the way the course was broken down into what felt like bite size chunks. This really helped me progress through sections at all different times of the day, and felt really accessible using my tablet and phone.
The assessments were challenging, resulting in a lot of mental gymnastics. There were late nights, wry smiles and a couple of moments where the laptop was at risk itself. I think that’s what made completing this so rewarding, as I felt I genuinely had to consider significant and less obvious risk with legislation and multiple sources to apply professional and proportionate advice, all which are mirrored in the real world.
There were only a couple of times I reached out for support, which were answered quickly over the phone and the online forum.
I have came away from this with not only a qualification, but greater confidence in this subject area, and a deeper understanding practical and proportionate controls in a complex environment.
A genuine thank you to Lucy and the team at NSA. You should be proud of what you have built. I would thoroughly recommend this course to anyone who is looking to develop competence as a fire safety professional.
What stood out most was the professionalism, transparency and passion that clearly goes into the learning experience. It never felt like a box-ticking exercise, and I came away with not only a qualification but greater confidence in applying fire risk assessment principles in practice. I have completed similar level qualifications, and this feels like the future for self-paced learning.
A genuine thank you to Lucy and the wider NSA team. You should be incredibly proud of what you've built. I would highly recommend NSA to anyone looking to develop as a fire safety professional.
Thank you,
Kenny
Fire Door Inspection
I recently completed the Fire Door Inspection course with NSA, and I found it to be an excellent and highly informative course. The content was clearly explained, practical, and relevant to real fire-safety situations. I would highly recommend this course to anyone wishing to improve their knowledge and competence in fire door inspections.

NSA Diploma in Fire Risk Assessment
I completed the NSA Diploma in Fire Risk Assessment with the expectation that the materials and assessments would actually be up to the standard you'd expect from a professional fire safety qualification. Unfortunately, several aspects of the course fell far short of that expectation.
Throughout the course, the learning materials contained numerous grammatical errors, poorly structured explanations, and inconsistent terminology. For a qualification intended to support competent fire risk assessors, the standard of written material should be significantly higher. In fire safety, getting the wording right isn't just about quality; it can genuinely affect whether people live or die.
It was evident that the assessor had no meaningful knowledge of me as a delegate beyond my name. This lack of engagement undermines the credibility of the assessment process. Effective assessment requires understanding a learner’s background, experience, and professional context, especially in a field where many candidates already work at a high technical level.
One of the most concerning issues was the rejection of work based on alleged AI involvement, even though no AI was used. There was no evidence offered, save for the feedback, which bordered on abusive; it seemed like the main reason was that my work was well-written. As someone who has been writing technical fire risk assessments and health and safety reports for over 20 years, I found it unacceptable to have my professional writing dismissed simply because it exceeded the assessor’s expectations or familiarity.
For Assignment 3, I was effectively required to simplify and dilute my report, not to improve clarity, but so that the assessor could understand it. This is entirely inappropriate for a diploma-level qualification. If you're assessing fire risk professionals, you need actually to understand what good technical reporting looks like. Being forced to reduce the quality of my work to meet the assessor’s limitations is both unprofessional and completely defeats the point of doing the course in the first place. I would have questioned the assessor's teaching and assessing qualifications if there had been any direct contact.
The charges applied for resubmitting work are excessive and unjustifiable. I genuinely can't see how these fees benefit anyone's learning; they simply take money. Instead, it honestly feels more like a money-making scheme than a genuine learning programme. Charging people to resubmit when the problem was vague marking criteria or the assessor not understanding the work is unacceptable and does nothing to enhance competence or professional growth.
The combination of poor-quality materials, extremely limited assessor engagement, unjustified challenges to the authenticity of my work, and disproportionate resubmission fees significantly detracted from the value of the qualification. For a course positioned as a professional standard within the fire risk assessment sector, these issues need urgent attention.
Recommendations
• Review and professionally edit all learning materials for accuracy, grammar, and clarity.
• Make sure the assessors actually know the subject and can recognise good technical writing when they see it.
• If you're going to accuse someone of using AI, have an actual process for proving it, not just a gut feeling and accusations.
• Provide assessors with training to recognise high-quality professional writing rather than penalising it.
• Improve communication between assessors and delegates to ensure fair, contextualised assessment.
• Reassess the resubmission fee structure to ensure it supports learning rather than functioning as a financial deterrent.
Unfortunately, I, in all conscience, could NOT recommend this ‘Qualification’ to anyone. It is biased towards making money; there is no recourse should you have a problem, and the total lack of assessor engagement is appalling.
It would be interesting to know if the assessor is qualified to assess and teach; it is hard to say from the abysmal communication and interaction with them.

The NSA Diploma in Fire Risk Assessment…
The NSA Diploma in Fire Risk Assessment was very worthwhile - the learning journey on their portal was easy to follow and very informative, with fast to respond Tutors if you needed further guidance or clarification on a certain area of the course.
The reading materials offered a wide scope of knowledge which you could absorb at your own pace.
I would most certainly advise anyone interested in fire safety / risk management to consider this course.
Very clear explanations
A good CPD introduction / refresher.
NSA Fire Risk Assessor Diploma
I had been wanting to enrol on a course of this nature ever since the collapse of NCRQ who had just rolled out their course when they closed. I saw the advert for NSA on LinkedIn and popped a message to Lucy who spent time chatting and running through the course.
I cannot say enough about the course, NSA and everyone involved; from Lucy, Hollie, Callum and to Gareth. Super supportive, polite and extremely professional. Gareth's straight forward advise and explanations where perfect and very helpful.
The course is very in depth and I have come away knowing and understanding far more than I thought possible. The scenarios assist in the application to real life situations.
I can highly recommend the diploma course and the additional free CPD courses are a fantastic ad on.
Bravo NSA

Simply the best (fire) trainer that I've come across- and it was part of my role for years to search out training providers.
All their courses are really helpful but their Fire Risk Assessment Diploma (same level as the NEBOSH Diploma) is a class apart from anything else you might come across. Even their supplementary teaching in AI is worth knowing. Really informative optional textbooks supplement all you could wish for on-line teaching and the three assignments whilst stretching leave you with confidence that you (and anyone else who passes) really are currently Competent in this field. A great value investment.
Diploma in Fire Risk Assessment
I have recently achieved a Diploma in Fire Risk Assessment through the National Safety Academy. This major online course took over a year to complete, via an easy to use portal, aided by tutors available as needed, two hefty but informative textbooks, and three not so easy assessments. All backed up by an effective and efficient office and support team. Due to personal issues part way through, I asked the team for support, and gained a substantial extension, which was needed and gratefully appreciated. I will say now, this is one of the best courses I have ever completed. I cannot fault the NSA and thank them for their support. Most definitely highly recommended.
