Unlicenced channel on FREEVIEW!

Why is OFCOM allowing an unlicenced TV channel (SNOW TV) to broadcast on channel 271 Channelbox on Freeview? OFCOM has confirmed in writing that this channel is unlicenced but continues to allow it to broadcast into 20 million homes. OFCOM has also said that there are other unlicenced channels broadcasting in the UK. What are these channels and why are they still on air? Our channel, SKI TV is a licenced channel with OFCOM (SNOW TV is an unlicensed competitor, but still remains on air) but the regulator is doing nothing about unlicensed national TV channels being allowed to broadcast. An investigation is underway, lets hope OFCOM get their act together in this matter.

It is clear that this body understands…

It is clear that this body understands their responsibilities as a governing body on telecommunications, however what is not clear is there purpose as a governing body to protect the public against fraud and nuisance calls. I understand the commercial advantages of monitoring costs to the public, however it is not clear why there would be a requirement to employ so many staff given there limited weight to enforce. It would seem practical to ask the question of this Parliamentary reporting department "What credible changes have been enforced in the last year by this department to assist the protection of fraud and nuisance calls to the public?" I suspect a large amount of money was spent educating the public, however doubt very little protection if non was enforced. This begs the question, if no enforcement is acted on then surely an investigation of the National Audit Office would be a better way in which to save public money and if anything it would reduce the completely inept and bureaucratic nonsense of Ofcom as a governing body. I'm interested in what is actually reported to Parliament every year to sustain their civil servant salary.

Uttlery useless

Uttlery useless. I filed a complaint about the BBC changing subtitles on their App, making them too large and bright, thus disadvantaging people with a hearing disability. I exactly followed procedure as guided by a woman on the telephone. I was told to look on the Bulletins for news of the complaint. As nothing had appeared -three months later -I called Ofcom again, only for them to say they had no record of it, and I must start the procedure all over again. I read out all the relevant correspondence, but it wasn't good enough. I asked where one could go for help if Ofcom failed. "Instruct a lawyer," I was told! I honestly don't think Ofcom want to challenge the BBC, who don't answer to anyone, it seems.

Completely Railroaded!

Completely Railroaded!! To find ofcom alone was tricky. The procedure was entirely faceless, and my concerns of sneaking charges under the radar (£600 over 5 years) were ignored. They dealt with me worse than BT.

Ofcom: expenditure-sponge

Beware of the Ofcom Sponge: "Roll-up, members of the public. Make your complaints here. We'll make a tally, and maybe, in however many years when having seen a number of cases that finally fit into a pattern, we will go ahead and act upon them".

This is, in-not-so-many words, what I was told by Ofcom: government expenditure-sponge.

Is it not likely that there are countless individual requests for investigations into various types of complaint from members of the public in-and-around the U.K, which, very quickly, form patterns for categories that warrant attention.

Ofcom is a type of quango - a 'type', because it is sponge for expenditure, i.e:- a way for expenses to be retained, well away from the general public who have a right to claim from companies in the telecommunications industry.

Their existence, to apparently 'regulate standards', and yet they do not make sure that companies adhere to any, in-effect meaning an across-the-board lack of standards to which companies have to conform.

Now, keeping in mind that this quango-monstrosity has been around since 2001, let's say that 'patterns of complaint' are collated every ten years (quite a lot to sift through), this equates to, not just one but two decades of unethical business gone unheeded, Ofcom failing to render the very services they were initialised to employ.

The harsh truth, this country has no big industry, it relying on the energy and telecommunication industries to circulate finance; therefore, it follows that if these industries have to spend money on such trivial concerns as public safety (fixing problems of low-standard infrastructure and equipment) and loyal treatment of customers (outlining fraud) then the government loses out, monetary-wise.

This is where the quangos and merged-quangos enter the frame - to save their books, at the expense of health-and-safety and fair treatment (public rights).

I have sent in many a request for investigation and complaint to Ofcom, all of them relevant and up-to-date, with some in the tone of urgent plea, yet all of them were denied to the point of no-reply. These set-ups are a waste of government funding and proven to be nothing less than a national scandal.

Meanwhile, many companies in the telecommunications sector do business as if they know full-well that they can get away with negligence, and this is because they can and they do.

I WANT OFCOM TO STEP IN AND SORT BT OUT. I USE TO HAVE A FREE BT EMAIL AND NOW THEY CHARGE ME. ITS TOUGH TO CHANGE ONCE WE HAVE ALL OUR EMAILS AND FOLDERS WITH BT. SO THIS WAS A HOOK WHICH IS CHEATING US. I GET CALLS SAYING TAKE OUR BROADBAND THEN EMAILS ARE FREE. THE BT EMAILS SHOULD BE FREE FOR THOSE WHO STAYED WITH BT WHEN THE EMAILS WAS FREE. Ofcom is without question bias and…

Ofcom is without question bias and serves it's own interests first. The board of directors is appointed by the same government department who appoints the same circle of people to head the ombudsman, ICO and other public service heads and there is a clear link in who they appoint and why - one big happy family who all share the same interest/agenda - as if that's a surprise. Complain to your MP's because the more complaints they get regarding the structure of OFCOM itself, then OFCOM will have to be restructured and be appointed by public voting or some other means to reflect the wider public, else things will never really change, will they

Why are we allowing this farce to continue? Answer: because who cares about customers rights. Toothless bloated regulator that shields the telecoms corporations and ensures that the abuse will continue. Just read the reviews and you will see that people’s rights are being trampled on while Ofcom watches.

Since Sat May 23rd I have had no Wifi…

Since Sat May 23rd I have had no Wifi at my home. I still do not have Wifi. I was told again and again my connection would be fixed within a few days. This happened over and over and still it has not been fixed. Latest date I have been told is Thur 2nd July.

All this during lockdown where myself and 3 housemates need to WFH.

Even before all this it took BT over 2 weeks to send us a BT 4G Mini Hub as a backup. Reason for the dealy was that they thought we already had one! Sorry, we dont have one, can you please send one? It took several phone calls with various staff just to solve this small issue. I was hung up on 3 times trying to get info relating to this.

I would guess I have spent about 15hrs in total in comms with BT by phone and text trying to get this resolved. I have even spoken to the Open Reach engineers on the street asking what I should do and what is the latest getting the internet reconnected.

BT are a muli-billion pound operation. Just look at how much money they spent acquiring Champions League football and the staff on their payroll to present it. And yet, their cusomter service is utterly clueless. Ofcom need to do their job here and fix this problem. Open Reach are to blame also btw. They are the only company in the UK who maintain the broadband lines meaning there is no compeition with them to provide a quick and efficient service.

So, what kind of service are people getting across the UK? Ofcom need to look and fix this problem because it affects home and working life especially since its looks like we will be WFH from now on. The public deserve better.

Land line providers and OFCOM useless in Emergency situations

Land line and broadband down for 3 days
Open reach through NOW TV came to inspect and fix the problem.
Now tv knowing that an elderly 82 year vulnrable adult with medical conditions lives here and Burglar alarm system depends on Land line for emergency could do nothing.
OFCOM besides sending a complaint to Highest authorities at NOW informed NOW TV can take upto 56 days and OFCOM cannot do anything even with a high risk situation.
