Significant discrepancies with typical hotel expectationsOur stay at Quinta das Oliveiras…
Our stay at Quinta das Oliveiras Turismo Rural (29-31 July 2025), Fundao, Portugal, presented significant discrepancies with typical hotel expectations, despite the pleasant saltwater pool.
Primary concerns included:
• Unavailable Restaurant and Bar: Contrary to online representations, food and beverage services were entirely closed during our stay.
• Unattended Premises: The proprietor was reportedly absent from lunchtime, leaving the reception area unattended, which raised safety concerns.
• Missing Room Amenities: Our 'Deluxe Room' lacked a safe, telephone, and refrigerator. Wi-Fi connectivity was intermittently weak.
• Infrequent Housekeeping: Room cleaning and towel changes were conducted only every two days, not daily.
• Limited Communication and Service: The sole staff member, the proprietor, communicated exclusively in Portuguese, posing a challenge.
• The flooring in our room, advertised as hardwood, was discernibly laminate.
• Breakfast was available daily, strictly between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM, and was considered adequate, but not exceptional.
• Late Checkout tax of 1 Euro per minute after 11 AM is rather unusual.
The fundamental issues regarding service availability, safety, and basic room amenities significantly impacted our experience. Our early departure on July 30 was met with a perceived sarcastic demeanour, despite the property appearing unoccupied during high season. Future guests should be aware of these potential limitations.
