TL;DR - This company is a total scam and should be avoided at all costs.

If I could rate this 0 stars, then I would have done so instantly.

For a bit of context, I was gifted this card on my birthday by my sister & her boyfriend. When I tried to make a purchase online, it rejected. I then double-checked that I put everything in correctly, only to find out it still rejected. The payment itself was about 20$, and the card had 50$ loaded into it, so it should have gone through, right? WRONG. Apparently, for whatever unknown reason, it still refused to go through despite my best efforts.

After reading through other reviews, as well as searching for help online, I come to find out: THIS IS TOTAL BS AND A SCAM. I was considering calling their customer support line for help, but was dissuaded by other reviews and posts made online complaining that customer support got absolutely nowhere. Any videos/blogs regarding any potential issues were either AI-generated, or utterly useless, as a site literally PRETENDING to be SecureSpend themselves (oh but they have a disclaimer at the bottom so legally they cant get sued!!!) tried redirecting me to a part of the actual SecureSpend website that DOES NOT EXIST.

In the future, I will 100% alert my sister and family members about this scummy company and to avoid ever buying another prepaid card from them, as $50 has effectively gone down the drain with seemingly no way to recover said money or spend it.

To anyone considering buying one of these cards: DON'T. GO THE OTHER WAY AND RUN AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. I genuinely hope you have enough braincells to realize that this is a total scam and any attempts at resolving your problems are futile and could give you anger issues later down the line by dealing with the most insufferable company and insufferable website on this planet. Find a different prepaid card company, or better yet: just directly get a gift card for the website you want to spend it on.

I had a terrible experience that feels like a scam, and I am considering legal action. I purchased a $350 gift card at Walgreens (Secure Spend). Within one minute of buying the card, the funds became ineligible and were frozen. How is it possible for a gift card to be frozen?

I called the number on the back of the card, but the service was unprofessional. I was informed that the line was recorded, and I had to confirm my zip code and full name ten times. After ten business days, I was told that the card had been returned due to an incorrect zip code. How could they know it was returned, and how was I supposed to provide a prepared answer?

Now, after a month of waiting, I am still without my funds and am preparing to take legal action.

I brought a card at walmart canada and put $500.
The receipt indicates that it is activated. When trying to use it, it say invalid card. Call company, they say I will need to wait 30 days. I have sent the card info and receipt to company. Called them to speak to a manger, since their supervisor giving me a around. They won't let me speak to anybody besides a supervisor. They just hang up.

I bought a card and they "locked it" because I tried to shop online and the charged did not go through. I called and foreigners kept acting like they couldn't just take the hold off (like all other banks do) and they needed my information (full name and address). I explained that I didn't want to give that information out and the whole reason for buying prepaid cards is to protect information. They threatened to keep my money if I didn't give them the information they demanded. This is theft and stupid. You can clearly unlock an account if you can lock one. These companies are just trying to bully everyone into giving up their data and its sick.

Total scam card. Most online transactions fail due to 'zip code doesnt match". Zero customer service. Phone number reaches somewhere in India and they can barely speak english. DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE CARDS!

I would rate it zero try to use card online it asked for zip code then declined it twice come to find out they locked my card and would not let me speak to supervisor.

wow, I surely wish I would’ve done my research and read all these horrible horror stories about people getting their money taken people just getting completely ripped off not being able to contact customer care and if you do get a hold of someone they just give you the runaround they bullshit you about giving you refunds, so I’m not even going to attempt to even call them I’m not going to attempt to do anything I’m just gonna take my loss as it is after reading all of these stories on Reddit in this website and many of others. There’s absolutely no point of trying To get my $200 back this is some evil f*** bullshit. Why is this company even still able to conduct any business? Why are they putting these cards in The most local, popular stores and these dumb ass stores have nothing to do with anything after you purchase the card so it’s like who do you run to for help? This is just f*** insane that this company can just steal from so many people I’m talking thousands of people and nothing is being done about it each and every day in 2024 I just read so many stories and they’re also similar in the fact that this could be someone’s last bit of money and yet it’s being stolen it could be for bills it’s been stolen the most horrible company I have ever in my life come in contact with or dealt with we seriously need to start up A petition and get them shut down. Otherwise it’s just going to keep being so many other victims. Someone has to do something about this. This is absolutely ridiculous us all complaining to each other about this he’s not doing anything they need to be shut down. This is absolutely ridiculous and I am so shocked that you’re able to still conduct business and it’s so f**** up because here you are put the money on the card you’re thinking I’ll just go to Second you try so many places to use this card and yet it just keeps getting declined but then you go back on your card the next morning, and you see what it looks like the card is working because someone in A completely different state is at target just going crazy with my $200. Perhaps maybe I’m frustrated. I lost my $200 but it’s not the end of the world someone needs to stop that company someone needs to start a petition. This is very serious. They should not keep spending any more amount of days getting more victims. This is ridiculous, and these corporate businesses might as well say they play a hand in this too, whether they want to say happy and satisfied and the fact that there’s absolutely nothing they can do to help us either to give us a refund. No transparency at all! The website to check the balance foesn't work - you can enter your card details and then an error accours every time - I tried it with multiple different securespend.com Visa and Mastercard cards!
Also, there are holds on the card for weeks/months when you pay at a store. (It charges you 53$ instead of 48$ for example and the 5$ additional cost will be on hold for multiple weeks on your card).
Costumer service has way too long waiting times and can sometimes be not very helpful, even though they are friendly.

Customer service says open investigation on my card and case number to go further. can't speak to a person. Online balance says their system down try later. $185.00 down the drain!

SCAM!! Adding another it's a SCAM to the list. I am out 500$ that cannot be spent anywhere. Called customer service they said "any online merchant or grocery store" that is a lie.

Everywhere I've tried using my card onlone declines thinking it's a fraudulent purchase. Amazon, ebay, etc. DO NOT GET A SECURESPEND CARD.

Can't use this card ANYWHERE online! The only place it works is at some retailers, but the whole point is to use this online - and it's not possible. You pay up a small fee to purchase these cards, and for what? Don't give these as gifts unless you want to piss off the recipient.

received a secure spend VISA gift card as a gift, when I went to use it they declined the charge, when I called customer service they told me the card had already been used and there was no money on the card. I would not recommend anyone purchase these cards.

This Company is the WORST. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT BUY their cards. Please purchase Vanilla Prpaid instead. I was scammed $499.99 on a card and it’s been 90 days and still no resolution. They are not worth the plastic they’re printed on.

I purchased a secure spend visa gift card on 11/20/24 putting 60 dollars on it at purchase. I bought 1 item from the Wisconsin DNR for 24 dollars. As I am disabled the rest of the money was to buy food for the rest of the month. At least a few simple things. I went to use the card, and it was declined. So, I checked the balance it was 0. Somehow the card was hacked and used to buy toys. I am a 48-year-old guy with no children and have never heard of the place in New York where the money was spent. I contacted the company, and a few days later I received an email stating they could not find cause to refund my money. Yet hope I will purchase another one because they value their customers.

DO NOT use these Visa gift cards. Total scam.

I purchased this card and loaded $365 to pay bills because the card claims that you can spend it anywhere and everywhere. Come to find out I could not use the card anywhere it kept declining declining declining whether I use it in person, in a grocery store, the gas station or online every purchase was a declined. I put that money on the card to pay my bills and I was out of bill money for 2 weeks until I was able to get another card. I still had issue spending with this card now that I'm down to $5 I cannot even spend it.

Happy birthday gift card for $300 when to use the card they locked the car then told me I got to send an information to get another card I sent this information in 4 months ago and still haven't got a response State I call they keep telling me call back 48 hours 72 hours it's been escalated still no answers no reply no new car no money do not give these people your money I really believe I've been scammed out my money

They kept my 460.00 I haven't gotten a refund yet. Dang card declining everywhere. Then two transactions of 59.00 for a fit gym membership they have. Be careful this card had my stranded in another state on my wedding anniversary/ cancer victory in the smoky mountains. Unfortunately the card declined everywhere we had to drive back home 7 hrs with no sleep. 😭😡

They take my $200 plus their fees then they tell me how I will spend it. SCAM. THIS IS A SCAM. They don’t offer customer service at all, and they won’t let you shop at Amazon with YOUR money that they now control. Don’t buy these rip off cards. Total scammy set up that I regret. I am a victim of Secure Spend gift cards.
