As you mention, electrical regulations can change over the lifetime of a solar PV system, and when major components such as an inverter are replaced, it is sometimes necessary to bring parts of the installation up to current standards. We understand that this can come as an unwelcome surprise, and your comments highlight the importance of communicating these changes as clearly as possible.

We also appreciate your suggestion regarding inverter lifespan. Dear reviewer (name withheld to comply with GDPR), allow us to respond to your review. The question submitted was "We are looking to install solar panels and a battery. We have two pitched roofs with a flat roof between and a roof over an extension at the back. However, we have loft conversions in the roof and the roof over the extension has no space under the roof. OCTOPUS our provider cannot install. We need a more specialised installer". We of course wanted your job, and did look at your situation, as we have done with every prospective customer for more than 30 years, considered it incompatible with the Microgeneration Certification Scheme and the Institution of Engineering and Technology Code or Practice for Solar Photovoltaics (setting out the rules, standards and best practice in our industry), and politely responded to your enquiry with a feasible alternative suggestion. We're disappointed that you felt the need to submit a 1-star review for showing integrity and compliance and before questioning the response direct. You are still free to contact us for a more detailed discussion. We wish you all the best with your project.
