I received an unsolicited promotional email addressed to an artist who passed away in 2023. The message advertised unrelated services, and the accompanying material referred to demos, which made the outreach seem particularly poorly targeted.
When I pointed out the problem and asked the sender to investigate before contacting people, the response was essentially that the information was available on the artist's SoundCloud profile, followed by a dismissive statement that I had been removed.
The issue is not simply receiving an unwanted marketing email. It is the apparent lack of basic research before contacting someone, followed by an unwillingness to acknowledge the mistake professionally.
If you offer services to artists and music professionals, I would expect you to verify your contacts, ensure your message is relevant, and respond respectfully when a legitimate concern is raised.
Based on this experience, the outreach felt careless and the response unprofessional.
