Still waiting for a response for incorrect billing/ debt collection after 2.5 years....
This is my third appalling review for SSE because I receive some partial communication from them (only in response to awful Trustpilot reviews) and when I email back with a specific question, I do not get a response. I have tried calling but after being on hold for over 20 minutes, here I am again attempting to get a response...
I recently wrote a review in December on behalf a friend who passed away in November 2025 and his widow about an issue that was ongoing for 2.5 years where SSE had continued taking money for a meter that had been removed and even though the ombudsman had ruled in favour of my friend, SSE had failed to make the appropriate repayments and he/ then his widow were being chased by SSE's debt collection partners. We have had a partial resolution - the year of incorrectly billed money has been returned with a goodwill payment for SSE's error however we have not had an response to the debt collection payments which were made (the debt collection were erroneously chasing/ hounding my friends widow in the aftermath of his death). It is shocking that once again I have needed to resort to Trustpilot in an attempt to get SSE to put right this issue. Can someone (there is a named person dealing with this complaint but I don't want to detail here for privacy purposes however this is a bit of a joke now) please look at this as a matter of urgency? Can this be escalated please? This is making a dreadful situation worse.

I have been waiting to have an unsafe box and wire replaced and updated now since October 3rd. It is now December 17th. SSE have delayed the date to come out again and again. Finally I had a date today, 17th December to attend between 8 and 10 this morning.
I waited in the cold with no heating or hot water at the address. I even called SSE at 10, as there was no sign of them. The phone caller advised that they would be attending and in readiness my my new smart meter being fitted tomorrow.
But at 11.04 I received a text message to say that they couldn't now attend until January!
I am appalled by how this company have wasted my time and make no communication to advise until it's too late. Awful service

Today, without any proper notice or communication, SSE Business Energy sent a team to our business and removed our electricity meter during peak trading hours—the busiest time of the entire week. As a result, our business has been forced to close for two full days (Saturday and Sunday) because no one from SSE works over the weekend to address the damage they caused.
This action shows:
• Zero respect for small businesses
• Complete lack of responsibility or planning
• No understanding of financial impact
• No customer care or accountability
We were given no chance to discuss, resolve, or even understand the issue before they shut us down. The team simply arrived, removed the meter, and left us with a business that cannot operate until Monday.
This has caused significant financial loss, destroyed our weekend trade, and put unnecessary stress on our entire team. For a large company like SSE to behave this recklessly is shocking.
If you are a business owner, think twice before trusting this company. Their communication is terrible, their actions are sudden and disruptive, and they take no responsibility for the impact they have on businesses.
Deeply disappointed.

Absolute disgrace no one answers the phone we raised a complaint over 6 weeks ago and have been back billed for an account that was going to a derelict property. We are now being threatened with legal action over the visit to cut us off despite having no notification of this.

In addition to historically being overcharged for electricity in Ireland for years in general, SSE pours salt on the wound by gaslighting customers with an atrocious billing system. Everything from the actual mechanics of the system to excruciatingly condescending "customer service" representatives who never take any responsibility for diabolically woeful system failure.

Website doesn’t work
I've been trying to create an account for several days, but the website stubbornly refuses to accept the postcode I'm entering correctly. Fix your website; it's impossible to register an account.
The supply was disconnected
The supply was disconnected, we paid the requested reconnection fee and £500 deposit on the 30/06/2025. Today, 13/10/2025, still not resolved, no electricity and no one at SSE seems to care.
Breech of contract
These guys never fail to amaze me, in 2024 I signed up to a 2 year fixed contract, I have over paid EVERY month even when they wanted to reduce my monthly payments.
Fast forward to October 2025, I have received an email saying that my monthly payments will be increasing from end of October (but I’m in a fixed contract until 2026)????
Tried to get a hold of them, it’s impossible.
IF I manage to get in touch before my payments are due I know exactly what they are going to say, it will be because I have asked for a refund of MY OWN MONEY that was building up in their cash pot. I was threatened both times I had a refund that my payments will be increasing but I also had an apology email from someone claiming to be higher up and saying I do infact over pay and my payments would not go up throughout my contract with them.
Its going to cost me less to pay the early exit fees and go elsewhere than for the new mo they payment.
Perfect customer care
During storm Amy, the most wonderful young man, christen or Christian phoned me multiple times to make sure that I, an elderly disabled living alone, was ok and managing.
I called him back to say thankyou and the total opposite response from someone who sounded like I'd woken him up. Dreadful
I never could get through to Christian again but wow.. .he is the kind of customer service person everyone wants and needs. So if you're reading this Christian, thankyou so much for going above and beyond your job description. You made a difference.
Sales call
Received a sales call from SSE, that appeared on my phone as Spam call. I answered anyway to be polite, he said he wasnt going to try to sell me anything then went onto say they could save me money. I told him I'd recently agreed a fixed tariff and he hung up on me immediately. How rude! I wonder why he hung up if he wasnt trying to sell me anything! Obviously just call centre staff on commission only pay, who have to make about 100 calls an hour in the hope of making any money. Obviously not a reputable company if they hire staff to do that.

Been with SSE for years since the days of Swalec. They have always been good to me. Excellent Customer Service. Personally, I will be keeping my Gas Quantum Meter just in case it does get really Cold.

Sse sent there tree surgeons to cut trees next door instead of shredding them at there place they parked there van along my drive and shredded there tree branches all over my car and drive. When I complained the men lied and said it was really windy that day the sun was shining and I had just finished cutting my grass go carefully with these cowboys

Owed 30 k and seeking legal action and compensation
If I could give it 0 I would. Appalling service. They owe me 30k and vat on business bills. This concern was going on for 2 years trying to get it resolved. Passed pillar to post . No reply’s to emails no replies to phone calls. Surprised the company is still in business. Need boycotting by all, businesses due to their lascivious of incompetence staff and terrible customer service. After 2 years of tying to revolve and no one taking accountability. I involved ombudsman. Should have been revolved within 8 weeks , no it took 8 further months under the remedies of ombudsman’s, how s that for custom,r service. Under the eyes of ombudsman they couldn’t get their staff to conduct any queries properly or conduct the remedies correctly. We needed a new single rate meter installed , however took forever for them to come out and then ‘accidentally ‘ installed the WRONG METER’ All under the watchful eye of ombudsman which shows how incompetent their staff and managers are. I asked for compensation due to the ongoing 2 year problem , go even I was owed 30k from this problem and not being able to claim vat for 3 years they offered a good will payment of 250npound!
When I press the matter I’m told as I went to ombudsman they cannot open a resolved complaint. They think it’s resolved. Laughable. I’m seeking legal action, if anyone wants to hold this company to account for their piss poor service email riverview kitchen cafe in Durham city centre and we can all put complaints together in a legal suit.
