The most ill mannered older man behind…

The most ill mannered older man behind the bar!!!….was really obnoxious doing us a favour….maybe he’s the owner …??…ok so it’s Easter Monday and he was busy??? but he was very rude to my wife….think this place is a posh version of Wetherspoons but with less polite staff!!!

The area is wonderful but avoid the pub!!

Location great food just ok.

Location, drinks and atmosphere were great, sadly the Inn is really missing a trick with their food, we had baguettes which were cheap white bread v disappointing. The sharing platter (which looked good) was sold out, so baguettes were only viable option. Where are the famous Cotswolds sausage rolls or some tea & cake or cream tea options? Considering it’s in an enviable spot and the only eatery we could locate we felt that the food let the place down. Perhaps we got them on an off day or after a main rush ?

Poor quality food.

Booked lunch for my wife and I. Lovely atmospheric inn in a beautiful area. Food very poor. Baguette was advertised as seeded & grain but It came as plain white bread and stale. Brie was straight from a fridge (cardinal sin) and of poor quality. Chips and crisps were quite good. Lentil shepherds pie was very dry and flat tasting. Mushroom sauce was just ok, but too thick. Vegetables were good. We expected better for £45.00 . Average cafe food is better than this.

Friendly staff, great food and location

We visited The Slaughters Country Inn for a meal and had a genuinely excellent experience. Although we didn’t stay overnight, the dining experience alone was strong enough that it immediately went on the “would happily return” list.

From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere felt warm, relaxed and confidently “country inn” in the best sense—comfortable surroundings, a calm pace, and the kind of setting that suits both a special occasion and an unplanned treat. The team created a welcoming feel without being overbearing, and the overall experience was smooth and unhurried.

The standout was the food. Everything we ate was excellent, and it was clear real care had gone into both quality and execution—properly cooked, well-presented, and genuinely satisfying from start to finish. It’s the kind of meal where each course reinforces the sense that the kitchen takes pride in what it serves.

If you’re in the area and want a meal that feels like a step up—without any fuss—The Slaughters Country Inn is an easy recommendation. We would return without hesitation, and next time would strongly consider staying as well based on how strong the overall impression was from dining there.

Disappointed

Beautiful Sunday walk, decided to have coffee in the Slaughter’s country Inn and wish we hadn’t bothered! Rude guy behind bar who, when asked if they did a Chai Latte, replied “No idea what that is”.
Settled on pot of tea for one and flat white. I found somewhere to sit, husband stood at bar for at least 5mins while drinks were made. No offer to bring over, and certainly no pleasantries, chipped saucer and no milk jug, milk served in a small coffee cup.( not easy to pour!)
At £9 for 2 drinks I would have expected better

The heart of the Cotswolds

Stayed overnight at this inn and experienced some of the best customer service I’ve had in years. Went with a friend who had mobility issues and arranged for a downstairs accommodation for her. Her accommodation was more like an apartment with two huge bathrooms and a lovely main room.
I stayed in the main hotel above reception my room was nice, clean and had great views.
We stayed for dinner and enjoyed nice food and good ambiance. The vegetarian breakfast I had in the morning was superb and my friends pancakes were hot and fluffy.
Can not wait to stay again, reception (Alice, I think!) was welcoming, knowledgeable and very personable. Would wholeheartedly recommend The Slaughters Inn to anyone staying in the area

Lovely location but some improvements required

I had high hopes for our 2 night stay at this establishment, however, I was slightly disappointed!!
On arrival we were greeted by “Vicky” who I have to say is amazing and an absolute credit to the place, unfortunately her enthusiasm is not reflected in the majority of other staff members.
The room was pleasant and the facilities are of a “standard” range, however, the cleanliness of the room was definitely not to my standards, there were cobwebs, spiders and dust throughout, this was also reflected throughout the rest of the establishment, these issues had not occurred in just over a few days they had been there for weeks as they were covered in dust etc.
The food served in the restaurant area was of a good standard and the breakfast waiting staff were very pleasant, however, be aware, a discretionary service charge is automatically added to your bill.
The bar service is also a little hit and miss.
Overall, it seems there is a few inconsistencies with service in this establishment, this could be due to the management or maybe a lack of staff understanding as to what is required to promote a good customer experience.
I am also aware that my expectations were higher than of what the establishment could provide, that said, it is a lovely location but in my opinion some major attention to detail is required to maintain their AA star rating.

The Slaughters rip off lunch.

This very picturesque hotel is a rip off. I ordered pork pie with chips. When it came it was half a pork pie, and a very small one at that. The cost for the paltry meal was almost £13. I could have purchased a full meal in the pub in Bourton On The Water for the same price. We won't be going back anytime soon.

Very annoying experience

Very annoying experience, we got there at 20.30 and they said we could be seated in the bar for food, the waitress came over and was initially very friendly towards us. She said she will back in a couple of minutes to take our order for food/drinks and completely forgot about us (she was having a chat to a couple at the bar around the corner). I approached another staff member behind the bar and said we had patiently been waiting for 15 minutes and we are ready to he served, he replied “ok 2 minutes” and just wondered around also ignoring us. We sat there for 30 minutes total and still hadn’t been served a drink, never mind food. The kitchen had closed at this point so we just left hungry and completely dissatisfied. Avoid.

Disappointing visit

Disappointing visit - Visited last week for an impromptu lunch stop on my sons birthday whilst visiting the Wolds for our annual visit, had a walk around the beautiful surroundings and wanted to sit on the terrace for lunch. Firstly we went into bar to order drinks and were subjected to a full on argument between two members of staff regarding who was serving who - very embarrassing and awkward for all, I am GF so ordered the GF version of the Egg Mayo Baguette - what a joke! Two tiny slices of hard bread - where it had been defrosted to use and hardly any egg mayo inside - a tiny bit of green salad and a couple of crisps for over £11.00 - no comparison to the others lunches - didn’t want to make a fuss on sons birthday lunch and also did not want to approach the staff after what we had just seen in the bar - wrote an email the following day and was pleased to receive a quick response but again what a disappointment - yes the staff where going to be spoken to and the chef but the offer of a comp drink to make up for the debacle was hardly worthy! Too be honest we would of received better treatment in a fast food restaurant - such a shame and sad that such a beautiful place has such terrible service and food

Country Inn...Where

I used to use this hotel when is was Washbourne Court owned by the Von-Essen Group and at the time it was run superbly. The next time I visited for a weekend, it had been taken over, and it was being run by people who didn't have a clue, I vowed never to return, that was about 6
years+ ago. Last week I was in the Cotswold for the week when, I weekend and suggested to my Husband we go for a walk around Lower Slaughter and then get morning Coffee. The day was sunny, bright but very cold, we had a lovely walk and were looking forward to our coffee and snack in front of a roaring log fire, (like the great Von-Essen Days). We walked into the bar area painted in a stark plain cream, I call it builders Magnolia, as there is no thought in it, we were followed to our table by the an abrupt waiter who asked 'can I help you' we explained we just wanted a coffee and a small bite. We sat down, and requested two large Cappuccinos, we don't do Cappuccinos the waiter replied....its 2017 what decent cafe does not do Cappuccinos..ridiculous, he said he could do a latte, this turned out to be a glass of hot milk. No snacks available, no cake, no biscuits, not even a cheese and ham toasted sandwich. The waiter brought over the menu, Fish and Chip £15 etc this we declined, as it happened the table opposite sent there meals back as they were cold, they also requested a ham and cheese toastie! when the waiter said they do not do them, quite rightly she asked 'well why don't you do them'? (I don't think she got an answer). No fires lit, although they did have the facility, and the day was freezing.
All in all a very disappointing experience, it's not rocket science, if your going to portray yourself as an Inn, DO INNY THINGS...log fires, snug interiors, friendly waiters, CHEESE & HAM TOASTIES, add comforting snacks onto the menu, maybe add a few tweed throws across the awful leather sofas (these need new infills in the cushions). I am sure if the owners invest a little thought, very little money and a weekend they could transform the place and would make it back tenfold, customers want an experience when they go out for the day.
I basically think their heart is not really in it, and believe me it shows.
