Unreasonable beyond belief
Unfortunately I have to give them one star in order to write a review instead of the minus five stars they deserve.
Tried to pay online but couldn’t because I am sure they make it difficult so you will fail.
Finished up sending a cheque which was cashed after the fourteen days and so now I am getting demands for late payment penalties.
This is a most unhelpful faceless company who are just out to make your life a misery.
Look how many reviews have just the one undeserved star. There is one five star review which I can only assume the guy was paid to write it.
See you in court.
Horrible tactics to circumvent CCTV evidence
According to VARS it took them over 1.5 months to ask and then receive my data from the DVLA - though I asked them to prove the date that it was requested and the date it was received and I was not given any information or response: in the mean time this allowed the 30 day period for CCTV footage of me paying cash to be deleted.
Not acceptable.
dreadful firm
We are being pursued by this company for alleged non payment of a purchase of diesel at a local garage in October 2024 - only brought to our attention in May 2025
At the time, we attempted to pay for the diesel but were told by the staff that another driver had paid for our diesel. They refused to take a payment, or take or details and told us to go away.
Probably they didn't know how to change the system to remedy the error. This has been explained to this company by email and by phone, asking them to prove that the amount they are requesting is our bill and not the other driver's as if they paid our purchase then their's was unpaid. And the amount is more than we usually purchase.
No replies to our emails and now a second demand with a £30.00 fee. Taking legal advice now.

I was abroad on the date of supposed offence. No calls can be made to them. Looks like a scam. Going to send over notice to fraud prevention.
The worst company ever I hope you don't…
The worst company ever I hope you don't have to experience what this company has put me and my family through they don't listen or care about people just getting money back for there own mistakes.
Please be careful using pay at pump be warned ⚠️
Rogues! Extortionists!
Be warned if you pay the reduced rate, their "system" will have an IT error, claim they will send you an receipt in 20 mins via email which you'll never receive and then this rogue company will send another "PCN" and conveniently not check they have received payment.... Consumers.... Screenshot everything with an timestamp. This company can not be trusted. Check your bank statement / payment record... If you have legal expenses cover contact them. Contact your bank and raise an dispute on the transaction.
Threatening Demand
Demand sent to my address with a different name to mine. Also car registration not mine or the vehicle! Spoke to the manager at Asda who sent them an email to say the vehicle isn’t registered to the address they’ve sent it to. Communication is terrible as they haven’t replied to me or Asda. I have notified DVLA and they will send a letter to me to confirm the vehicle isn’t registered to me.
Considering they are in breach of GDPR you would think they would want to clear this matter up.
Very similar to others
Very similar to others. Went into ASDA, dispensed fuel, got a bottle of water, paid for all of it (or so I thought) only to find that 4 months later (yesterday) to get a drive off notice. I checked all my receipts, CC and bank records but I had only paid for the water. I remember being desperately thirsty that evening so was completely focussed on the water, ignoring completely that I had only paid £2.15 - so fair - but this simply should not be possible. ASDA need to start taking some responsibility and not just palm off these perfectly innocent incidents to a £ hungry outfit whose systems are truly awful. If the fuel station was local to me, I would take this up directly with them but it isn't. Anyhow, just tried to pay the bill online only to find that the payment was "unsuccessful" but with the ridiculous notice that it may not be "unsuccessful" and if I enter my email address, it will notify me in 20 mins to confirm either way. That's as far as I got as it told me there was an "error" and wouldn't accept my request so I had to wait a bit, be proactive and log in to my "case" again in order to find out if this was paid. It was. Rubbish experience though - and next time I mix fuel with groceries, I'll make sure the hapless cashier knows to charge me for both!
ALWAYS go back to the petrol station and pay for the fuel and then the case will be closed
On 19/05/2025 I received a letter from DCBL stating that I had an outstanding balance of £135.03. I contacted them immediately to enquire why I had any outstanding balances. I was informed that it was for unpaid fuel at a petrol station. I followed their advice to view the details on your website, there was no evidence of any unpaid fuel so my son (the driver of the vehicle) attended the petrol station to check whether there had been any fuel taken without payment. The video was reviewed with the manager of the station and it revealed that my son did get £15 of fuel, he then entered the petrol station grabbed some shopping and stated pump 2 for fuel. He paid by card and left. The manager also revealed that he had another “unpaid fuel incident” a few days later of £18. On both of these occasions my son entered the shop to make payment. The manager advised him to pay for the unpaid fuel, which he did.
I have googled vars technology and it seems this is a very common occurrence.
I consider that this matter is now closed, the fuel has been paid for and no one has suffered any loss. The fact that £15 could become a £135 debt is outrageous
. Good afternoon Melina,
Thank you for contacting our complaints department.
We can confirm that the forecourts raised the claim to us in pursuit of the monies lost on the date of the event. All information is provided to us by the site, and therefore, if they accept payment after a claim is raised, it is their responsibility to inform us.
We did issue two notices to the registered keeper of the vehicle, using the address provided to us by the DVLA. As no payment or correspondence was received, the claim had continued to escalate to our nominated debt collection company.
The site has since informed us to close the claim. This has now been closed with DCBL, and no further action will be taken.
Kind regards,
Evie Muir
Cowboys they do not follow codes of practice set
Do not trust them, absolute cowboys!!
No final response letter, asked on the 8th and stated I would settle. Sent to a debt collector the same day!!!!
Utterly disgusting Cowboys
I don't even use this Garage
Recieved a letter stating I have driven off without paying for petrol!!....
I never use the said garage as it is expensive and I drive my car for work everyday....
The picture they have attached could be from any camera anywhere...there is just tarmac around the car...no petrol pumps...no signs or no pic of me filling the car.
I am convinced this is a total scam for money!!...I have asked for further proof!!...
Notice for non payment of fuel…
Notice for non payment of fuel received, VARS not contactable to challenge and ASDA Fuel Station not answering. Paid online to avoid fees, with Website indicating that payment did not go through. Checked bank payment was pending suggesting no issue, logged out and back into VARS and found payment correct. Beware the site and keep screenshots.
Job applications
If you’re thinking about applying for a role with them then don’t. Highly unprofessional the recruiter will send you a message they want to progress you to next stage but somewhere along the way the contact will cut out and they will stop responding. Applied twice through indeed and it’s same story. You get a message with phone number telling you to contact them and then you can’t ever get through. No response to text messages either and as a result you can’t ever get an interview. I can understand once but it’s second time they are doing it now so don’t waste your time, apply somewhere else.
Had the same a many others people on…
Had the same a many others people on here.Put petrol in my car in Asda garage,4 weeks later I’ve had a notice informing me I hadn’t paid for the £10.00 petrol.Went back to the petrol station to ask to see the cctv and due to the delay in the notice arriving the garage said the CCTV was no longer available.Emailed VARS and explained this must be an error but got an email days later saying basically tough I should check payment has been taken before leaving the store.I took this on the chin and asked to pay on my payday, they gave me until the 16 April to pay.logged in on the 16th to pay and error message saying reg or account number incorrect, tried again on the 17th got same message, tried again and finally got into the portal to find they have now increased the fine to 70.After around 10 emails disputing the increase they have basically said I never tried paying on the 16th as arranged, explained the error message but in a nut shell they have said tough and unless I prove this then I have to pay the 70.I have now begrudgingly due to a threat of debt collectors contacting me tried to log in again and low and behold the same error message has come up.This time I have taken a screen shot to prove that I’m not a lier.I have emailed them and sent the screen shot.Im sure they do this on purpose so they can increase your fine.Just awful, with the cost of living at the moment this company are putting families under even more pressure.I have told them this and they don’t care if they cause you financial difficulties and do nothing to support or help you even though you are doing the right thing by trying to pay for something there isn’t even concrete proof you have done.
' Free Parking ' advertised hotel no conditions mentioned
Parking charge at hotel. Now new signage and screen for signing in. Scammers. Hotel on 4 booking sites and own website. Most say free parking - nobody mentions parking charges.
I seem to be having the same issue as other people on here
Looking at all these reviews there seems to a theme of people assuming they have paid and errors being made by either the Asda system or staff.
This occured to me, paying by card and being told it had gone through the staff clearly didn't hear me say I had petrol or forgot to add it. As a customer you put your trust that the staff and system are working. I don't look at my bank after it goes through so was shocked to hear that I hadn't paid for petrol. No way of explaining and any reasonable was of appealing, I went to the store in Middleforth in Penwortham near Preston to work out what had happened.
I have had paid the amount as my mental health is worth more than the extra £78.
This is clearly a charlatan company and better legislation is needed, people need to be able to appeal and explain. I can imagine most people on here are trust worthy and not criminals. I will avoid Asda petrol stations from now on.
This company is very unethical
This company is very unethical. I've been told i have drove off and not paid for petrol. Something i 100% know isnt true. I've asked for CCTV which the company are saying they cannot provide. Its now been passed to a debt agency who are demanding £140. it seems from reading other reviews that ASDA petrol stations have these "faulty" machines. I was told its my responsibilty to ensure the payment has gone through but i was completley unaware . You put your pin in and it just says start fuelling maximum spend £99 and then off you go .There is no error message, no card declined. this is entirely a faulty system and they are cashing in on innocent people. They have no contact number which is also a red flag for these dodgy companies taking money from people. currently seeking advice on what to do next as the debt company say they have no file on me just the debt amount and nothing else. All sounds very wrong to me.
Appalling experience and discriminatory behaviour
I regularly travel between Scotland and Newcastle and always stop at Asda Express petrol station to fill up before heading back home — usually costing £50 or more.
On my last trip, I was shocked to be told that I had supposedly driven off without paying £7 for petrol. That never happened. In fact, I had been in the shop the night before buying nappies for my baby. After reviewing their records, the staff admitted it was an error on their part.
I thought that was the end of it.
Months later, I received a letter from VarsTechnology demanding £127 for this “unpaid” £7 — something the petrol station had already admitted was their mistake. This was the first letter I ever received. Now, they’re threatening to send bailiffs.
To make things worse, my partner, who is Deaf, called them using SignVideo to try and resolve the situation. They outright refused to speak to him because it “wasn’t his voice.”
He calmly explained that under the Equality Act 2010, interpreters are his voice, and he has a legal right to use communication support.
Their response?
“We know our rights. We will not discuss this with an interpreter.”
They demanded he email instead to prove it is indeed him. When he did, they replied, “Thanks — now we will email you directly, not through the interpreter.”
This is blatant discrimination, ignorance, and a complete disregard for accessibility and the law. My partner was left feeling humiliated and powerless — just for trying to resolve a situation caused by their own error.
So now, we are prepared to let them take us to court.
Would give zero stars if possible
Would give zero stars if possible. I have had continuous harassment from this company even though they were provided with a crime reference number proving that a petrol crime was committed on cloned plates. They ignored all emails and passed on the file to baillifs who don't care about crime and just want money. Now they wish to start court proceedings. Absolutely disgusting.

Received an obligatory £75 'fine' for driving off and not paying for fuel. I can prove I paid for the fuel via my bank statement.
I simply emailed them with the evidence and told them to cancel the fine or take me to Court, we'll see what they do.
All looks a bit dubious to me, I have contacted the filling station owner as well and informed them
