Extremely disappointing experience with Workforce Australia.
I was finally offered a job with Expression Australia, but before I could start, I was required to pay for a Working with Children Check and an NDIS Check, costing over $360. As someone currently receiving minimal Centrelink payments, this simply was not something I could afford upfront, so I contacted Workforce Australia for assistance.
I tried calling twice. The first time, I waited on hold for over 3 hours, with a recording repeatedly saying they may not even be able to reach my call and to try calling back another day. I called again the following day and waited another 2 hours. Seriously?
I then emailed asking for help and received an automatic response saying they were experiencing a high volume of emails and did not know when they would be able to respond. I needed urgent assistance because I had a job waiting for me which i would start the second week of September, but there was absolutely no way to speak to anyone.
In the end, I had no choice but to let the job go because I could not afford the upfront cost of the required checks and Workforce Australia was impossible to contact for assistance. It is incredibly disappointing and frustrating to think that I could have been working right soon, but had to give up the opportunity because the very service that is supposed to help people find and maintain employment could not be reached when I needed them most.
What is the point of telling people you are there to help them get into work when you cannot even get through to anyone for help? I had a job, I wanted to work, and I did everything I could to seek assistance. Unfortunately, I was left without support and lost the opportunity as a result. Very disappointing.
