Should a customers car keys be off-site?

I arrived at 08:23 for a 08:30 fitting, dropped my keys off with a colleague, was told it would be an hour so I went for a coffee at a local coffee shop. After returning to pick my car up and hour later, I was told that my car keys were with a colleague who was on his way to another location to drop off a piece of kit. Not a massive problem as the person who had my car keys would be coming back, it would take half an hour. I noticed that not only had they taken my keys off site, my car was not locked and the only person other than me was busy fitting tyres. Apparently, the colleague with my car keys was told not to bring them back immediately by a Divisional Manager, not especially good customer service from a member of management. Let's not get me started on a company whose policy is to leave a colleague working on their own for over two and a half hours - might not mean much to people who just want their tyres swapping but it does in my line of work. I finally got my car keys back at 12:03 (2 hours and 33 minutes after I expected them) which gave me plenty of time to write this review and watch to make sure my car or anything in the car not to be stolen. A point made to the colleague who shrugged and said the was no way anything would have been stolen. Poor is the word I am looking for
