What is the Access Card? The physical card acts as a photo ID that can be used to easily communicate your access requirements to events and venues, so that the venues can provide accessibility to the needs of their visitors. It also works online with other platforms like ticketing systems, to unlock the access facilities you need. The card shows a photo ID and translates a persons disability or impairment into symbols, effectively highlighting the barriers they face and the reasonable adjustments they might need. The Access Card app provides you with a personalised directory of venues, with first-class accessibility information to help you plan your trips.

I wanted to apply for the Nimbus card…

I wanted to apply for the Nimbus card for my wife so that we could have disability access to Ambassador Theatre Group theatres. When we looked at their application forms we were appalled at the detailed health information they expected us to share with them. My wife has received disability beneits from the DWP for well over 20 years. Details of the benefits she receives along with her blue badge should be sufficient information. I have no idea who would be reading this highly personal information at Nimbus and have no guarantee that it would not be shared with others - particularly as the privacy policy states that they can contact you about suitable events. As a result we will be unable to visit ATG theatres and will now miss out on theatre trips.

Hi - unsure if you have submitted an application but benefits letters should be ample if they provide enough information - there is no requirement to send in medical information but we have it as an option for people that do not claim benefits.

The people reading the applications are our trained team which is a majority of disabled people, possibly with more experience than the team that made a decision on your wife's benefit entitlement.

If you have made an application and think something is missing please reach out.

If have not made one please submit the application sharing only as much information as you are comfortable sharing

The privacy policy states that if you OPT IN we will send relevant information - this would only come from us and we do not share your information

awful scheme that just complicates life…

Awful scheme that just complicates life for disabled people . Your dwp letters should be enough and simple to take to venues or email over , yet in step nimbus to take money off already disadvantaged people and even their free so called card section , makes life more complicated than simply taking your award letters in . This system has prevented theatre access and made it more complicated . Hope the system gets scrapped . After half a day of trying to obtain tickets via the scheme we have given up , and will sadly boycott venues who use it . :(
I am just editing this review now - given that nimbus have written a response below …i am devastated- completely devastated at their response ! It is ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE what they have written . I’m literally in tears . Completely shocked and broken .If what they have stated below was true , it would have taken me less than a minute to send copies of disability letters !!! A hell of a lot quicker than writing reviews on here :-( .As further proof of the untruthful response from Nimbus - how can a copy of disability letters be incredibly low quality in this day and age , with emails and great cameras on phones and devices? What an incredulous ,fabricated ,extraordinary response. OMG I am devastated at a company being so untruthful ,when in fact it involved filling further forms in , with intrusive , very personal medical evidence and waiting an extra 7 days for them to check . Or i could pay them £15 instead of doing that each time i wanted disabled tickets . The dwp letters ARE PROOF ENOUGH . Why should we have to submit further intrusive medical evidence to complete strangers God only knows . I hope people read the reviews of this rip off company ,before they take this card out ,that makes life harder for disabled people and i hope theatres stop using it . Our disabled pip , esa and carers letter are enough proof . As if life isnt hard enough already for disabled people :( . Please look up other reviews of this company across different platforms folks . Mine is a shared experience .

Hi - I can see that you actually applied for a free application and we simply asked for a legible copy of your PIP as the original quality was incredibly low

My friend told me about the Access Card (as she has one) when I was explaining that I don't often go out much as not confident with dealing with my conditions. I found it very clear what I needed to upload and info I needed to submit. I'm now really looking forward to receiving my Access Card very soon.

Absolutely terrible experience …

Absolutely terrible experience if you have a child with autism. I sent the Doctors letter with his diagnosis and just asked for the standing/queuing icon. It has been declined asking for his EHCP or a doctors letter. Why should I send his EHCP to strangers to read and a doctors letter Costs £50. They really do not understand neurodiversity and I have never had such a terrible experience for an ask that is not unreasonable. I recently applied for a passport for him and sent the same diagnosis letter as he is 15 but unable to sign his passport. Accepted with no questions at all from a Government organisation. Same at Disney and Universal in Florida. And he only needs a sunflower lanyard in any airport and his needs are catered for. I really wouldn’t bother applying as the stress it has caused us as a family is not worth it

Not helpful just intrusive

Pretty terrible experience. I applied for my husband who has early onset dementia and other health needs. I was really uncomfortanle sharing confidential info from the pip assessment as its someone else's info and very personal, but thought this card might be useful. Actually this is the worst sort of info as the pip assessment boils it down to the most basic..I could have uploaded a letter from a psychiatrist but this is for a flipping access pass and that is too much information to give to strangers.
Like others i was refused the +1 section despite my husband not being to go anywhere on his own and me being a full time carer. The rediculous thing is that i have a general carers card issued by my local authority carers team and have never been refused the carers entry.

My view save the 15 quid and ask your local authority whether they issue a card.

My needs were disregarded in the application. Neurodivergence is not recognised here as a disability despite sending reams of evidence. Because many venues insist on a Nimbus card to provide the extra support I need, I will not receive this despite the Equality Act. Saddened to be marginalised again.

Terrible experience. Despite providing everything. It was one thing after another to the point of not accepting my child’s autism report as I sent it digitally. They wouldn’t ring or be flexible

Recommend Access Card

Only recently heard of the Access Card, could be useful especially as it is widely accepted. It is an evidenced based application process reliant on DWP and or a medical profession letter. In correspondence they do use language similar to DWP like 'decision maker'. It can be difficult to share highly sensitive personal info, if you do not easily fit its rules. The online application could be improved by offering and additional info box. Plus they should show all of the application being submitted with the option to download or print before and after submission. Or develop a secure online account so what has been submitted can be viewed or edited before submission. Its follow up emails come across as a bit robotic or cannen if you struggle to submit standard dwp benefit evidence. If you have relevant DWP proof of pip, DLA etc, the process should be straightforward. However, many come with significant disability informally and with an informal carer, so it is less able to offer a card in such a situation and better letters to 'prove significant disability' will obviously not be easy. There is zero consideration given to a significant disability that hinders getting to a venue, the emphasis is mostly on adjustments once at a venue or event, this shows its focus is on venue providers not actual Access just to get to a venue. Added to this is how many do not want to engage with the dwp or overstretched nhs, as they have experienced them being hostile.

Very grateful that this exists and to the staff who all have kind and explained each step along the way. Even when there was a question about the need for one of my requests, they presented options and explained what more information they needed to assess need, which I then could provide. Thank you!

Quick vetting and response for access card

In my experience, I applied for a few different 'icons ' due to my hidden disabilities. Not all the icons were awarded but I did get my access card for the icons that were awarded. The application was vetted very quick and a prompt decision was made. Tip: Need to read the decision email carefully and down to end of the email

Kind and helpful

First and foremost, the staff responded quickly and kindly to my questions. The application form online was accessible for screen reader users. And I was impressed by all the different needs the card covered. I'm glad such an option exists for us and am very grateful to the team.
