Racist employee refused to provide me service at "customer service" desk

Hello.

I am writing to report a likely racially motivated incident at the East Norriton, Pennsylvania, store that occurred Saturday, March 28, at about 3:30 p.m.

I filled out forms on Acme's website and called twice in filing complaints, but Acme leadership cannot find it in themselves to comment on this situation. So I've decided to share this publicly to embarrass the store.

First, your customer service employees never man the desk. About a year ago, I started going to Acme for money orders bought with cash bonuses received at my job because a Giant supermarket near me lost their license to sell them. On this day, it took 10 minutes until someone showed up. Ten minutes! Today, sensing the same problems, I asked an employee stocking shelves to help bring someone to the desk.

A young woman showed up and began expressing doubt right away that she could help me with $6,000 worth of money orders and insisting that I'd need two forms of identification. Absurd! Who brings his or her passport or Social Security card to a supermarket to get money orders? Giant never required two forms of ID, and I successfullly converted as much as $4,000 to $5,000 in cash to money orders on single visits.

This woman called over a woman named Royce, and Royce immediately began interrogating me as if she were a police officer and I was some bank robber or drug dealer. "Where is this money from?" "Where do you work?"

Let me tell you so it's perfectly clear: Your employees have no right to ask these questions of me or any other person seeking money orders.

Wanting to get out of this abhorrent store as quickly as possible, I told her that this money is a cash bonus for my marketing job, which is 100 percent the truth. Royce never deserved this answer.

Royce started to walk away, shaking her head and saying that $6,000 was too much. I asked her what the store daily limit is--if one even exists--on money order transactions in a day. She didn't answer.

Royce left for 5 minutes and came back, saying she couldn't help me. I asked whether she could convert any of my $6,000 into money orders, and she said no.

Royce is an African American woman, and I am a Caucasian man. Given that she offered no other explanation for denying my request, I am making the claim that her obscene, uncalled-for actions were discriminatory.

If I don't take action, this alarming behavior will only continue.

Acme has NOT been a good place to shop…

Acme has NOT been a good place to shop but the company has been going down hill for some time.At one time Acme was yes was the number one grocery store in the Philadelphia area and now the other chains just laugh at them ,there prices are the highest in MOST cases. There adds are well laughable. They spend more money on pickup & delivery giving them better prices. They spend more money shopping for avery small group then the LARGER group, shoppers that come into the store and in MOST cases SPEND MORE MONEY on IMPULSE ITEMS but when you have EXECUTIVE'S that just DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING- CASES IN POINT the merger sell out. They only cater to the PRIVATE EQUITY companies (KROGER'S MID OCEAN PARTNERS along with ACME'S CERBERUS CAPITAL MANAGEMENT , lubert-adler funds,HPS Investment partners and oak Hill advisors) these companies would be poised to receive VERY LARGE PAYOUTS from the merger of Kroger/ Albertsons thank the government for STOPPING IT.

I shop in the Centreville

I shop in the Centreville, MD location. Most of the staff here are very good (aside from those in the Deli, who clearly prefer customers buy the pre cut), suggesting it is well managed.

Meanwhile --- a few checkouts consistenlty "HELP" customers "get rid of" the survey prompts that arise by entering 10, extremely satisfied. This seems to be an action encouraged by management to ensure high satisfaction NPS results with corporate, Shady.

The app is completely unusable it hasn't been updated since 1980

This app has a lot of problems. It makes updating your phone number and address pretty easy and I like that. I tried searching for 'frozen lasagna' nothing! It's like really old fashioned nobody pays attention to the app I don't even think anybody shops at Acme on the app because I never see them delivering groceries anymore it's usually Giant and they're another big pain in the 🫣 OKAY I WON'T SAY IT. You can't search for anything you can't have your groceries delivered I don't understand what they're doing or why they're there I'm telling you all and you know it's true we have reached the very limit on intelligence whatever intelligence we were enjoying in America was wiped out with covid and the Chinese know it before they release it it eliminates your brain power you don't want to do anything you don't know how to do anything you become the opposite of reality you create your own reality it's all over the Internet this is what happens when covid hits people they get completely brainless and community college got to be wiped out because it's producing nothing but idiots with degrees everywhere you go no one knows nothing no one wants to help no one knows how to help it's 13 girls in one office and still no one can get it right. So they can find out where their brain is and what level of work they're going to be able to handle before they hire them it's going to be somebody in the mops the floors and cleans the toilets or somebody who's going to get in to customer service who has all the answers you choose. This app is so old-fashioned it doesn't offer you anything you can't even browse the aisles and for some reason they bring up three items now I know they have more than three items in that area on that in the store. It comes from hiring people to do their website and their apps that doesn't know what they're doing.

I have been a customer for many hears

I have been a customer for many hears. But I have come to the realization that Acme no longer has the reputation it once had. I used to be able to justify my shopping at Acme because stheir meats were better. But sadly, as far as I am concerned, that is know longer the case. Many of my friends no longer shop there because of nose bleed prices. I have given tghem the nickname of "Ax me markets." They seem to refuse to give their loyal customers a break. I live within 1/2 mile of Food Lion and Lidls. When I shop at Food Lion, I can almost come away with twice as much food. To me, Acme has become a store from which I still purchase a few items; I like their French baked bread in store, and their 4 for 19.99 items. That is usually the only thing I purchase from then. When are they going to wise up???

Gary of Bala Cynwyd was on duty helping out in this store and he was very helpful in every way a human could be helpful.

He went above and beyond the call of duty to help me and my mother!!

Many praise to Gary at ACME!!
