AIBŌ is a personalised helper and companionship service that connects friendly, vetted university students with elderly individuals who need extra support in their daily lives. The service is designed to bring back a sense of independence, connection, and fun into the lives of older adults while providing students with rewarding, flexible work that fits around their studies. Our student Buddies can assist with a wide range of tasks, including grocery shopping, technology help, light household tasks, DIY, gardening, transport to appointments or outings, and most importantly, meaningful companionship. Students are not qualified carers or nurses so cannot help with any medical or personal care needs. We aim to match students and their elderly buddies on shared interests, personality and career aspirations. For example, if a student is studying the Arts, match them with someone who was an Artist or creative industry. At the heart of AIBŌ is the power of intergenerational connection. Research has shown that engaging with younger generations can significantly improve mental well-being, reduce loneliness, and even contribute to longer, healthier lives. Likewise, students gain valuable life experience, mentorship, and a sense of purpose by forming genuine relationships with their elderly Buddies. AIBŌ is not a care service but a companionship and support service, creating real friendships across generations while offering practical assistance to help elderly individuals remain independent, active, and socially engaged.

What a wonderful idea this is , linking lovely young people with our ageing generation. My father had the pleasure of two beautiful young ladies taking him out for fish & chips plus the odd ice cream . He had a great time and I could take a welcome break knowing he was being well looked after . I thoroughly recommend .
An elderly friend of mine in Arundel was the first to receive services from AIBO back in September 2024.
The allocated person assists him for a few hours each week with PC queries, taking him out and about, cooking and eating dinner with him, helping with a writing project he is working on, and taking him shopping and to cafes.
This is a step up from your usual type of care and support agency. The friendship and the genuine care and concern from his allocated buddy mean so much to my friend, and he so looks forward to the weekly visits.
I assist him regularly with more day-to-day tasks and engage with him over our shared love of the history and people of Arundel, but I can't compete. 🙂
Although the visits from his AIBO buddy are just for a few hours each week, they are a really important part of my friend's overall support package. He always tells me about the regular visits with enthusiasm and delight.
I can highly recommend this agency, and Solene, who was his original buddy.
A wonderful idea for a new business!

I started working with AIBO in February and I have developed such a lovely relationship. I was paired with Mike, a man living with Dementia in the surrounding areas. Since starting at AIBO, I've felt supported with each step by both Solene and the customers family. I go and see Mike once a week and go for trips to a cafe (always a win with tea and cake!), fish and chip shops or even just a short walk. I'd say it doesn't feel like work when I'm with Mike, he's really just a friend! It's completely flexible and independent work which is genuinely enjoyable! I would, and do, recommend AIBO to any students looking for part time work alongside their studies.
I love working for Aibo. It has taught me so much and allows me to have a rewarding job alongside my studies at University.
I learn so much from my buddy, Adge. I think it’s a great thing to do as you get to help someone whilst learning more about their generation and hobbies.
