Excellent guidance by AIESEC

I had a really great time at my internship abroad. I learnt a lot within my field, but also about myself and cultural differences. I was helped immediately with every little problem and they were very transparent in their communication.

Great organisation

I can't speak highly enough of my experience with AIESEC Groningen! It's an organization that embodies the spirit of youth leadership, cultural exchange, and social responsibility. If you're looking for an opportunity to grow as a leader, expand your horizons, and make a positive impact on the world, I recommend getting involved with AIESEC Groningen!!

Impressive organisation

I was amazed by the support provided by these guys. They lead you through the proces starting from the preparations, during the proces and even after the process as well! Highly recommended, and that for a group of students.

Lack of clarity, last-minute planning, sudden changes, overall frustration and disappointment

I signed up for the Health project in April, looking forward to a volunteering program. However, the experience turned out to be disappointing and frustrating. From the beginning, there was a lack of clarity about the assignment. The booklet mentioned "raising awareness for the mental health of the elderly on campus," which was quite vague. When I sought more information, I was told that it was still unclear. The project itinerary on the website did not accurately reflect the actual project, which I discovered later.

During the National Orientation Seminar in mid-May, we learned that the project would involve assisting a daycare for disabled people, which was completely different from what was initially communicated. Even the organization seemed confused, but they assured us that we would be helping with the daycare of the elderly.

As weeks passed, I reached out to my buddy multiple times for updates on the visa, flight tickets, and project details. With only a month left before departure, we still couldn't register for the project or make any necessary arrangements. They mentioned that the correct timeslots were not online yet, and they hadn't even looked into flight options. The delay resulted in ticket prices skyrocketing, causing additional frustration, especially for students like me who had budget constraints.

To add to the frustration, a month before our planned departure, we were informed that the project assignment had changed back to the daycare for disabled people, as originally mentioned by India. This sudden change, coupled with the last-minute nature of organizing everything (visa, flights, vaccinations), made me apprehensive about traveling to India, a country I had never been to before. Consequently, I made the decision not to go, as the overall experience left me dissatisfied. AIESEC should handle these matters with better planning to ensure participants feel confident and well-prepared for their volunteering journeys.

Two stars instead of one because the people I talked to were friendly.

I do not recommend going on a volunteering trip with AIESEC. You should try booking a project with organisations/companies such as International Volunteer HQ, as these are companies and not run by students.

My 3 year story of (NOT) going on internship

I was approved and signed a contract with AIESEC Kyiv (Ukraine) in autumn 2020 to go and teach English in Goenka school in India in summer 2021 but it didn't happen because of the pandemic. When in April 2022 I saw news that Indian borders are finally open, I wrote my LC and informed them I want to go on internship and make use of my contract as the borders now are open. They said they would transfer my details to managers to sort it out. Nobody contacted me in months time. When I texted them again to remind I'm waiting, nobody replied me at all.
I started navigating internet and writing on all possible my local AIESEC channels and finally I got in touch with some managers and they told me my contract was cancelled because borders didn't open and if I want to go I need to pay again. They said my manager should have told me that my previous contract was cancelled and offer me a voucher. The voucher would have let me apply and avoid paying the fee for a year after my initial contract cancellation. Nobody informed me of this.
We argued a little bit that there was no my fault that the managers didn't explain me what to do, I sent them screenshots of aiesecers promising in April 2022 to transfer my details to managers, and I succeeded in getting a right to apply for the internship again based on old contract without paying the fee.
I had an interview with AIESEC in India (Delhi IIT) and they passed my CV to the hotel which approved me for the internship. I signed the contract. I didn't event have interview with the hotel itself. I requested it and my local manager also requested that I speak personally to the hotel at least get acquainted with them. I was promised the "acquaintance" a bit later when the staff are less busy, but it never happened. I reminded AIESEC in Delhi later again, and heard silence.
Later my LC texted me to ask how I am and that my internship is coming. I said I didn't even speak to the company yet.
Shortly AIESEC in Delhi texted me to say that since the person from hotel who approved me got fired, my approval has to be broken and they can't offer me any new opportunities because of my age limit.
Local AIESEC I signed the contract with refuse to refund my contribution because I "didn't make additional expenses related to the internship" like visa, insurance etc.
The opp I was approved for is still on the website and open for applications, that doesn't make any sense to cancel my approval as I believe an intern is approved to work in the hotel and not with the sepcific person who approved my CV.
Anyway this all communication with AIESEC was really challenging. The whole story lasted for approx 3 years with no success and took a lot of my time and energy.
I think the best way is to call audit on this organisation and make sure their contracts and internal documents are lawful at all because their activity can create a lot of problems and headache to their clients.
I imagine if I had left my job to go on this internship and they had just cancelled it because "the person who approved you got fired"

My main conclusion of problems
1. Lack of communication
2. Unclear legal terms. There is a contract with incomplete regulation. it really needs lawyer's review.
3. Run by students who are learning on you and may make mistakes even though you pay money for their services
4. Ghosting and ignoring
5. No real way to complain on them as they are "volunteers" and basically are not obliged to provide you a good service for your money.

This organization is one I'm a huge fan…

This organization is one I'm a huge fan of. They have so talented people in their teams, and the mission is one I can only be an advocate of. The best place to go if you need razor-sharp young people added to your teams. :)

In my opinion it is one of the worst…

In my opinion it is one of the worst organisations ever. They are not interested in you, no effort to help you if you are in trouble. They are unable to deal with the host company. They are unprofessional in their work. Lack of organisation and unability to work properly are their main characteristics. They gave me a lot of wrong or incorrect information. They pretend to be professional and available to help you but they are not at all.
If you try to say that you have problems in addition to not helping you, they are also rude and put the blame on you.
Both aiesec Italy and Portugal did not work well and the experience was not worth the price.
I was deeply disappointed.
I strongly advise against trusting them.

AIESEC gave me an amazing experience

AIESEC supported me in the very best way. From start till finish, they helped me with all my questions. Overall the experience itself was very nice. The company was super supportive and the workload was just fine. I really recommend AIESEC to people who are looking for a period abroad!

Aiesec arranges nothing, don't use them!!!!

I paid 450 eur to do a summer internship in a Serbian accountancy office. Aiesec would arrange accomodation and I was promised an apartment, studio or at the absolute worst a room in a shared student house. After signing up I get asked by Aiesec Serbia if I would mind sleeping in a dorm room with up to 5 other people, with no kitchen, fridge, relaxing space or any kind of privacy. A hostel is cheaper and offers better facilities. So I arranged my own accommodation and didn't get any kind of compensation from Aiesec. Then I get to the internship: the entire company operates in Serbian, no one speaks English well enough to even explain me anything. I end up clicking buttons in a Serbian bookkeeping system with no clue what I'm doing and my colleagues completely ignoring me because they don't want to try speaking to me.

At least I expected Aiesec to arrange nice activities while I was there, this was not the case. One small event with market stalls were I was forced to bring food and present was the only activity that was organised, no kind of connecting with other interns.

All in all, I paid to work in a different country and Aiesec doesn't help with arranging insurance, accomodation or facilitates meeting new people. It is better to just find a paid internship by yourself

bad experience as a company

AIESEC might be a good organization to be a part of if you are a student, but as a company I would strongly warn against making agreements with AIESEC. The organization is run by students who most often are only part of it for a single semester and therefore do not care what happens in the long run. They are also completely indifferent to whether the persons they bring to (in this case Denmark) have legal residence afterwards, and AIESEC can thus contribute to illegal immigration.

To be honest...

To be honest, that was ONE OF THE WORST EXPERIENCE.

To be clear and short, it is really interesting, when:

- a member is being eliminated because THEIR VIBE WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH, aka, when a person is really passionate about making a FA an innovative and more intetesting, but due to a VIBE they dismiss him :) „lack of knowledge”, they say :)
- your mental health is not important, the priority is as follows: DDLs and THEIR MENTAL HEALTH :) so you have to work twice as hard :)

Overall, I have met AMAZING AND INSIPIRING people I can now call friends. :)

P. S. - if you want to know where this is happening, let me know in the comments :)

Never go with AIESEC

Well, It is literally the worst experience I have ever had. I contacted AIESEC to go to Brazil to teach English. I paid the participation fee and provided them with the necessary details as soon as they asked for. In return, They sent me the necessary documents for the visa one week before my flight date. I had to bag them for the documents. AIESEC showed me pictures of the type of accommodation they provide. They had 3 months to find me a place and as usual, they sent me pictures of my accommodation one week before I fly to Brazil. I couldn't back off then after I invested almost 2000$ for this experience. The place I got was nothing like that. I was provided with what they called "a room" in a house with 5 other students. The room was actually an area at the back of the house which was used to store old stuff. It had a plastic roof that leaked on me as soon as it rained. FYI: it was the rain season when I came. My computer screen was broken as it got wet. to make a long story short, they didn't even recognize their mistake or apologize for it. Aiesec is simply a group of teenagers who have no clue of what they are doing...

Paid 450$ to go with Aiesec to china

Paid 450$ to go with Aiesec to china, in order to learn about business systems in Asia.
1: 1/4 of that was a deposit that I should get back. I haven't got that back, even though it's almost half a year since I got home

2: the full first week, I was told to teach kids English in a summer camp for children.. the rest of the 5 weeks, I still didn't learn ANYTHING about business systems in Asia, as I signed up for..

3: Before the trip, they changed the location 5-6 times. At last I was ensured, that the trip would start and end in Xiamen, China. After I booked my tickets, they told me that the program would start the original place, but end in a city 8 hours from the original place..

4: they told us that accommodation and food was covered for the full 6 weeks. After 4 weeks, we got told to check out the accommodation, and pay for new accommodation and food for the last two weeks..

5: people who had visa problems (which was caused by the organization) or had to go to the hospital got ZERO help from Aiesec..

6: even when I made a complaint about all this, nobody took responsibility for the bad experience! instead I got blamed for asking for too much (even though I only asked for what I was promised). Nobody has taken care of my case yet, after almost half a year.

Everybody from my program was truly unsatisfied with Aiesec after this trip.

I invested my whole summer and a lot of money on this. DON'T TRAVEL WITH AIESEC! I write this so you can read it, and spend your time and money somewhere else, where it's better off spend.

AIESEC double standards. DON'T GO!!

My daughter was payed up to the tune of about 450Euros to go to Romania, and looking forward to voluntary work and meeting young people from around the world. AIESEC in Romania changed the original contract and my daughter had to pull out as there was no certainty about accomodation and facilities available during those stay. Furthermore, the Turkish students only paid about 100Euros, AND they can literally drive to Romania. I decided to contact AIESEC but got no answer and therefore cancelled the visit. I will lose about 450Euros but at least she is safe as I have heard that those involved in the visit are having major problems.
