Not a reliable source of payment
The app is not at all intuitive. It’s easy to download and add a card when abroad. But using it is a different matter. I managed to pay in one shop - but basically had to give my phone to the retailer (who also didn’t have much of a clue). She managed to scan me. Then I tried to pay a taxi driver and it didn’t work - he couldn’t scan me and when I tried to scan him, it said I had to add a card (already done abroad), but wouldn’t let me add any of visa, mc or Amex. Ended up having to get the police involved to allow me to find an ATM to withdraw cash. Basically it’s not a reliable source of payment at all. But neither is paying by card (for taxis). Uber equivalent app requires a local phone number to register. So carry cash!

A total and utter disgrace. I've been waiting four months for a refund from AliPay and it has still not arrived, causing huge issues for my business, including being taken to court. To describe dealing with their customer service as merely 'wildly infuriating' would be generous.

I never received the product, and I contacted the seller several times but he never responded. How can I get the product I ordered or get a refund? Please, help me.

Repeatinly asking same ID and personal information
Finally given up with AliPay. I had a fee to pay to one of the China authorities and was sent an invoice to be paid only option open to use was AliPay as my company does not allow use of WeChat (pay). I set up the account verified. Soon as I scanned QR code to pay sent an email of malicious activity was received, now 7~8 times since been asked to valid details sending passport photo, credit card photo, Bank statement etc. requesting same documents each time and still the payment cannot be made. It makes you a bit nervous sending such information as it is personal. I sent one final time if the account can’t be setup and payment not being settled, I requested they cancel the account. It is ridiculous amount of time spent trying to resolve this just to pay a fee a 120RMB fee. As this is a China Government authority, I will inform them the it was impossible to pay their fee via AliPay and they should consider PayPal.

I would give no stars if Trustpilot allows. 6 months prior, I had a fraudulent charge from Taobao and I had my Citibank card replaced. Now I am in Beijing and my Alipay payments are all rejected. Back and forth with their absolutely useless AI bot, and nothing is resolved. Finally I called their live agent and met with very polite but uncompromising, unreasonable and unhelpful service. They said they needed Citibank to confirm the fraud purchase months back has been resolved. I called Citibank and they said yes. Ali then wanted Citi to confirm in writing but Citi said there is no such protocol. The new card has a new number and it is a verified account. Citi does not have any service agreement with Ali but only Applepay and Samsungpay. Ali still insisted. I tried another bank’s card linked to Alipay but faced the same restrictions. This is my 5th day in China with very little cash and working with this impossible Alipay who do not seem to realise that they are asking for irrelevant proof when it’s a different card and this new card has already many purchases (online) with Taobao thru Alipay. I’m so distressed I’m not coming back to China ever. You may have rules but look at the circumstances, the proof and the obvious facts.

I've got scammed when I made transaction with some China's seller. I've sent a report through email to request block the scammer account, but they ask me to make a report through alipay app. And after I made report through alipay app, they still do nothing. So I sent another report through email with a proof and request to block the scammer account, and they respond is: please report to the police. Until now, the scammer account still active. Paypal is way more better & safer than alipay. Becarefull if you made transaction with alipay

They ask you for passport, bank statem9, credit card and a lot of very personal items that I do not feel safe at all providing. Very problematic app. I do not recommend it.

It appears Alipay+ Travel was more concerned with clearing the case off their queue than resolving it with any basic level of professionalism or care. The communication contradicts itself, and the deadlines were unreasonable.
If this is how such a simple request is handled, I genuinely fear for any customer needing help during an actual travel emergency.

They booked a fully paid AirAsia flight through Alipay+ Travel (via GCash).
The request was simple: change the flight date.
No refund. No route change. No seat change.
The request was made with 5 months' notice.
Alipay+ Travel refused to assist. They gave the usual "privacy policy" excuse, but never contacted the actual ticket holder to resolve the issue. Total failure in customer service.
For a company handling travel bookings and payments, this kind of negligence is unacceptable.
If you’re considering using Alipay+ Travel for flights, think twice. You’ll be left stranded if anything goes wrong.
🔄 UPDATE – May 18, 2025
After going fully public with this case across multiple platforms, Alipay+ Travel finally responded to me directly. They confirmed they had contacted the passenger on May 16 — once — and then made no further effort to follow up or assist. The 30-minute payment window was sent without any confirmed agreement, and no response was given until I began posting about the situation publicly.
They now claim the case is under review — but no resolution has been provided, and the original passenger (Ana) still hasn’t received proper communication or support.
They’re also asking for an additional 6,000 PHP charge to fix a basic date change that was requested 5 months in advance. I’ve made it clear that this is unacceptable and that if a date change cannot be offered without penalty, we will seek a full refund instead.
The system continues to prioritize case closure over customer care.
Still waiting. Still public. Still unresolved.

Would be zero if possible. The sellers lie and will reply in messages stating its genuine and provide additional pictures. A fake and grotesque item is sent instead. When raising a claim you are bullied into trying to cancel it or you can't return your items, which PayPal have as a condition of refund. Scammers.
Used it from Canada
Never use it if you are not in China. A seller scammed me and once I asked the Alipay to help me recover the fund, they informed me they can't. They have no process control on the seller and even being a verified seller on Alipay, they don't have payment protection for the person sending the money to seller. Hence, strongly recommend not to use this Chinese App and if possible don't send any money to any Chinese seller using this App.

This company Do NOT refund and want you to return faulty items to china at great expense. Do Not Use AliExpress as these are the scammers you have to deal with to try and get your money back. They make it as difficult as possible and I'm sure most people give up.
Alipay Platform seems Reliable & Safe - BUT> Some Listings are not,
I have made three small orders and received them in the UK successfuly. So I decided to try a much bigger item.
However, the listings are not really clear - I paid for a Digger- only to get a whatsapp msg within an hour telling me that the price was ONLY an advance payment. The price quoted SHOULD be the price you pay. The listings MUST be clear on this & a lot are not... HOWEVER, it was very easy & safe to Cancel my order. As I always use Paypay for safety, I got a refund within 10 minutes back into my Paypal Account. Good
Alipay - used by everyone in China
Alipay .. OK I'm in China i need alipay right ? .. pretty much everyone wants you pay using alipay even beggers have QR codes.
The good .. easy to pay for services either scan their QR code, let them scan yours or tap and go ( you have a pass code ) , quick and easy . You can also use the app to order taxis ( well didi ( like uber)) which again is easy .
Don't try and get to fancy and register a balance as you start to get into Identity stuff .
If a transaction is less than 200yuan there is no transaction fee and unless you spend more than 15000yuan you don't need to register ID
Bad , alipay one day just got restricted, basically blocked .. help line will just tell you to open a new account , just do it it's easy , use a email address, if you haven't got a spare email address set up a free one while at home. I was up and running again in 5 minutes with my new account .
Make sure you have Internet all the time and as a side note carry a battery powerbank , the translation tools , maps and alipay all use juice ( vpn a good idea if you're a Google junky ) Gmail addresses do work with alipay , also my prepaid credit card from post office works with alipay so extra security there
Overall whatever you think of alipay it's going to make china a lot smoother ( I'd still carry some cash though you may or may not be able to get change hahah)

If I can give 0 rating , I choose 0 rating for this e-commerce platform. I ordered bicycle spoke tool from this platform. And I was not at home when delivery arrived and they didn’t put package near my mailbox and there was no notification until I realised notification was only from mobile app. So I installed mobile app and tried to contact delivery company worked under alipay and they replied back that I could collect from post office and they didn’t leave delivery note for me to show to post office. Therefore I asked for refund thru alipay mobile app and they refused to refund for lost delivery. I never ever buying any stuff from alipay anymore. I simply throw my money for nothing in return. Really unreliable and untrustworthy big ecommerce platform from China. I don’t trust any services or even electric vehicles originating from China.
AliExpress: forged proof of delivery
AliPay is a must to have in China; the counterparts of AliExpress work very well there. In the USA, stay away from AliExpress. In my case, the item was not delivered and the seller (BillTools Store, 4.8*) provided "delivery proof", which was a forgery. I have a report from USPS with all the information; they were helpful. The tracking number was for a real delivery of an "empty box" (6oz) to a house with my zip code. The seller changed the name, the address (to my one), forged my signature, and changed the weight to 5.4kg. The delivery day-time and the local post office (not mine) remained unchanged since these scammers know that such "proofs" are mostly processed automatically. Despite the evidence, AliExpress supported the seller and rejected my claim; now it is in the hands of PayPal and BBB. Generally, AliPay US is subject to all our laws and AliExpress guarantees "refund if package lost", but don't be fooled by all these.

Sorpresa era un pezzo di plastica x ridurre il diametro altro che canotto regolabile x e-bike..contestato subito che la merce era sbagliata dopo 5 giorni avevo ricevuto giustificazioni solo in cinese ma nulla di restituire il pezzo e niente possibilità rimborso..ho dovuto ricorrere a PayPal e bloccare il pagamento x riavere i soldi..queste sono truffe legalizzate un pezzetto di plastica del valore di 30 cent ti fanno pagare 20€...questi signori!!!
