It’s great to have a local gaming shop like Athena and I would recommend it to anyone. I’ve brought numerous games from them over the years and I’ve never had a bad experience. The staff have always been helpful in suggesting ideas, talking me through the pros and cons of games, which is so helpful when trying to find something as a gift!

This is a great store where I regularly go to play games in their free gaming space. They host lots of events and tournaments across a wide range of hobbies/games run by their friendly and inclusive staff. Downstairs they have a well stocked store available for online or in store purchase for all your hobby needs, whether that’s Warhammer, MTG, Pokemon, Gundam/Gunpla, D&D, family friendly boardgames or smaller wargames like Moonstone, Bushido or Marvel Crisis Protocol.

I have been going to Athena games for the last 10 years and found it to be a great game store the staff are knowledgeable on the product they sell and they run excellent events. They have a wide range of products and are always happy to accommodate my regular gaming group. I have been to alot of different games stores over the country and I can say that Athena has been the best I've been too. Would recommend going there if you are local to Norwich and supporting them.

Don’t use this company. They don’t give you a refund unless you order online! They charged £20 more on any Star Wars item then anywhere else online but refused to give me a refund to my card only gave me store credit. They had an awful attitude when challenged about it. They don’t state that you can’t get a refund on in store purchases anywhere on there website except a tiny piece of paper on the desk on small writing. Very disappointed, used this company for years and spent well over a thousand pounds and they tell me it’s there policy to only refund on store credit. Not using again. DO NOT USE THEM

I ordered 4 of the same Bloomburrow commander deck from their website to get a copy for me and my friends.

They cancelled my whole order claiming:
"we are not selling more than one of these decks to customers, as such I have cancelled and refunded your order. We try to ensure everyone gets a fair opportunity to get these decks and as commander is a singleton format there is no reason for duplicates"

Note here that they didn't cancel 3 of them leaving me with 1. They cancelled it all. And removed all of this deck from their website immediately so it's not even there to repurchase. This is 100% because they mistakenly put it up on their site and now are too dishonest to tell the truth and honour their mistakes.

I replied immediately asking why can't I buy 1 copy then. They ghosted me, so they get this review.

Don't trust these guys.

Tonight I walked to Athena games like normal going out of my way to buy the one drink I like. As I arrive I sit at a table ready to play MTG commander. Only to be told I can't drink my drink as I didn't buy it there. I look around see people eating fish and chips. Drinking out of drinks bottles.
So I left. I am leaving this complaint as your MTG products are more expensive then almost all the local shops in Norwich. I have spent hundreds over the years despite this as they have the play room. If your going to be this greedy and I feel discriminate me like this then the hundreds I did spend with you will now be spent elsewhere. You will now make the profit from a drink when I come in. I would say this greedy new policy has cost you hundreds

Placed an order online for two Force of Will decks a few days ago. Quick shipping to NI and everything was packaged securely. Always welcomed by helpful and friendly staff upon entry who have maintained their excellent customer service and a welcoming atmosphere for all the years I've played and shopped there.
Still seeing the same old friendly faces among the players even after all these years shows it's a community that has stood the test of time!

Great store, great staff, great community. I play Pokemon TCG events there and they have a wonderful and welcoming crowd of older and younger players always happy to help you as a new player to feel welcome and teach you how to play.

The turnouts are healthy and I have always felt welcomed. The staff are always doing there best to make it a welcoming environment and with the changes they have made over this year the community has blossomed and is the best it has ever been. I love coming down for games there and recommend everyone else to.

I first learned to play Pokemon here back in 2015, and it was a wholesome place to go and learn and make friends. Unfortunately now that is not the case. The community I grew to love have all been cast aside for what can only be described as a school yard. It’s a very unwelcoming, toxic place to be and I find myself not wanting to go back anymore. Not to mention the treatment of a fellow player and friend based on minimal evidence. The staff are incredibly unhelpful, and while I understand they may not participate, their knowledge of the game is not warranting the league status they hold, for everyone who has helped or tried have all been pushed out. Lack of communication and understanding has led to a very poor place to enjoy a well loved hobbie.

As someone who played at athena back in the day (6 years ago) I have returned to find the place nothing like I remember the pokemon community is dead and gone the new players that do play are toxic and cliquey and the learn to play nights on Wednesdays (start at 5pm) you get charged £5 to enter and you get no support from a pokemon judge no one there trys helping players learn you just get left to your own devices and at the end of the night everyone gets 1 pack so realy your paying well over the odds for 1 pack and learning nothing I have attended a learn to play night at another store (I won't promote on here) and well established good players of the TCG were teaching children how to play and it was FREE for the children to learn from good players in the community that have played many big events and done well in them. I don't understand what has happened with athena or the community of players that used to play there but its not fun to play there and it's not a good place to learn to play anymore the shop seems to be out for themselves now charging alot for very little service also it's a joke that the prize support that pokemon company have sent out to stores is being given out every 4 events you attend unlike all other shops giving out once a week. I hate to write this but I wouldn't if it wasn't true I realy hope that something changes because as it stands I probably won't be going back.

Bought 2 sets of “Oakie Doakie” dice. Great price. Speedy delivery and a really nice “thank you” Email from Jamie (one of the owners). Would recommend and use again where possible.
