WARNING for Homebuyers

WARNING for Homebuyers: August Smart Locks do not recognize legal property transfers (Closing Disclosures). Even if you legally own the home, August allows the previous owner to 'veto' your access to the hardware. This creates a massive security loophole where a stranger retains administrative rights over your front door. Highly inconsiderate policy that ignores the reality of real estate transactions.

Horrible shipping situation

Company lost my package, told me to follow up with frdex. FedEx says they never received the package. So I’m stuck in the middle with both parties playing not my problem.

Well as the company that couldn’t ship it out correctly. Should fix it.

Don't buy August smart lock

I want to share my personal experience to help others avoid the same mistake. I purchased an August smart lock five years ago and used it without issue—until recently. The company has now blocked activation of the product outside the U.S., rendering my device completely useless.
What’s worse, there was no prior notice, no support, and no compensation. The company has completely abandoned its existing customers and taken no responsibility for the inconvenience and financial loss caused.
I strongly advise against buying August products. Don’t risk becoming the next victim of a company that doesn’t stand by its products or its customers.

I was one of the first to support…

I was one of the first to support August when they began in 2014.

And slowly since then they’ve declined customer service wise(probably since Yale bought them)

All they offer now is a 20% discount to buy their subpar expensive products when their products fail and are out of warranty.

If they don’t want to retain customers, their brand is gonna die.

I’m looking elsewhere to replace my august lock products…

I ll start by saying if I could give less than one star I would so on February 23 I ordered a lock and key pad they took my payment and canceled my order never refunded my money so when I called they told me it was canceled do to looking like fraud they told me he could reorder it but it would charge my card again and I would have to wait for the refund so I told the Representative to just cancel my order completely and proceed with the refund he told me he did so I order a lock from Amazon it was delivered and installed for about a week and I get an notification that the lock was delivered but it was not and yes I know for a fact it wasn't do to my cameras doesn't show any delivering it nor any one taking it 2 months later I'm still fighting to get my money back I would definitely not recommend august smartphones but anything

Canceled my order, still charged

Canceled my order made at end of November for a Christmas gift, never notified me, and did not refund the charge to my credit card! (Order date was 11/24 and as of 1/7 it hasn't been refunded.) That's straight theft and fraud. Very incompetent company that doesn't even get the basics of ecommerce right. Buy anywhere else.

On return policy

Horrible,, bought the smart lock, keypad & door handle (3 items). Installed lock & keypad then the door handle.. Door handle didn’t fit my door so tried to return it. August home wouldn’t accept return unless I took everything apart & sent all 3 items back.. Like buying a shopping cart full of individual items at Home Depot the Home Depot refusing to accept any return until you uninstall everything & return the entire cart of stuff. Too stupid to even consider for a real company. Buy another brand instead. August home does not have a return policy you can actually use.

Battery life is way too short

Battery life is way too short. First set of batteries only lasted 4 months, the next set lasted 2 months, and then the last set only lasted 10 days. Don't waste your money on this product.

August smart lock stopped working on…

August smart lock stopped working on wifi after an August software upgrade. Support team won’t provide a solution to fix lock. They said I could purchase their bridge which will resolve this issue. Don’t recommend 👎

Battery Life is SHORT

Battery Life is SHORT! With a fresh set of batteries in the lock, we left for a 4 week vacation...and we started receiving emails warning us the batteries were critically low within 10 days. A - the batteries are expensive, and B - the battery life is not even close to long-enough for a functional lock system on a frequently visited location.

Substandard Connect bridge

My August connect bridge died in 18 months.The August customer care first blamed the wifi and then suggested steps to ignore their own troubleshooting steps on the website. I sent them 3 videos painstakingly documenting each step to show that the bridge is malfunctioning; when they finally accepted that it was malfunctioning, they informed me that it is not covered under warranty and instead offered a 20% discount to buy from their website. if you do a google search it will bring up innumerable customer complaints, where the connect bridge is dying within 15-18 months, and August support then offers a 20% discount so that customers keep buying their substandard connect bridge. August knows that this is a sub-standard product and it is shame that they have no qualms about ripping off customers. I will not wish this product on anyone. A door lock needs to be reliable and something you can depend on for a long time. August has proven with connect bridge that it is only here to take your money, and make a run for it.
