Complete waste of time. I provided all the neccessary documents to begin my line of credit application. Then they began asking for affidavits from people that had no interest in the property I owned. Much of what they were asking sounded odd and I began to be suspicious. In the end I withdrew my application.
Riley and Elliot made our experience great. The system is fluid as long as the user provides the necessary information. The Better team is very professional and and we had peace of mind feeling they were on our side. We also got a great rate, especially considering the fluctuations.
I refinanced less than a month. Loan officer very friendly and helpful throughout the process. Thank you better.
Better was unbeatable in rates, transparency and speed to closing. Their system is so well-oiled that the ball was almost always in our court for next steps!
- They helped us seal the deal by closing in 20 days! The big banks all asked for at least 30-40 days.
- Only one 1 of the 5 other lenders we talked to was even able to match the rate we got from Better.
- The rates were available in real-time on the portal for us to check/select. Every other lender required a phone call or email to check on the latest rates.
If you have all the documents you need on hand, and have educated yourself about mortgages, there's no better option than Better (also lenders like Ally that uses their platform)! Amazing experience!
Great communication and, competitive pricing, and quick closing
This company is incredibly disappointing.
Following my financial advisor’s recommendation, I applied for a $150K HELOC. As a stay-at-home father (my wife passed away), I rely on life insurance proceeds for income. I explained my situation to their advisor, provided all the necessary information, and was told we could proceed.
The next day, a sales manager named Daniel called, rudely questioning why I wasn’t moving the loan along. I had completed every step as outlined on their portal, but they rejected some documents. When I spoke with Helen, a loan coordinator, she said I uploaded the wrong files. I pointed out that I followed their website’s instructions and explained that some documents kept disappearing from the portal. She didn’t seem to care about the technical issues I was facing. After re-uploading everything, I received confirmation that the title search and credit check were moving forward.
Then, despite having completed all tasks, I got an email saying they wouldn’t approve the $150K line because my son’s SSA benefits only last for three years. I had already provided proof of my financials, showing I had four times the line amount in one account, a near-800 credit score, and only $30K left on my mortgage. I even suggested reducing the line to align with my monthly draw amounts.
Instead, they came back offering just $50K. They had all the necessary information from the start to make this decision.
In my opinion, they’re neither upfront nor knowledgeable, and I wouldn’t trust them. It feels like a bait-and-switch: promise $150K, then offer only $50K.
I pulled my application and would recommend others look elsewhere. I’m more frustrated by the time I wasted with them.
Everyone we dealt with at Better was top-notch. I appreciate the constant communication, the ease of using the portal to submit documents, and the task function that let me know exactly what was needed from me.
From start to finish it was obvious that the representatives were knowledgeable, responsible, and working to make the process as easy as possible for us. After dealing with a more traditional bank for my last two homes, Better was a breath of fresh air.
Documentation was very easy to submit and I was kept up to date on the status of my loan the entire time. My loan officer was fantastic!

The loan consultants are not forth coming and lack accountability and follow-through. The "soft" Pre-Approval is not a definite approval and contingent upon an actual overview by underwriting before you can truly get a confirmed approval. The loan agents will waste your time and your realtors if you don't ask the right questions.
You're better off doing business with your local banking institution and seeing a loan agent face-to-face.

Everything was online and rapid. A few glitches because our coordicator took vacation and the person to take over did not have direct access to the feed.
This was my second experience with Better. I would like to see Better send a list of documents that are likely needed to complete the application in addition to tasks. I highly recommend Better.

This closing was the easiest by far that I’ve experienced. The Better team was amazing and always on top of everything; it seemed like they were working around the clock to get me to closing as soon as possible! I was a little leery about doing this whole thing online, but their system is super-simple to navigate and provide what they are asking for. Plus, I received near-immediate feedback on just about everything. Would definitely recommend and personally use again next time.

They were incredibly fast in responding to my questions and took the time to explain every detail of the process, making sure I fully understood each step. Their efficiency in getting everything completed quickly was impressive, and their thoroughness made me feel confident throughout the entire experience. I highly recommend them for anyone looking for a lender who is both helpful and professional!
Better Mortgage was HORRIBLE to deal with. It appears to be the general consensus with nearly everyone. Was the perfect candidate to get a heloc and was approved. Paid for an appraisal out pocket, and after the appraisal never heard from Better for over a week. I emailed them requesting a closing date and got no response. I called the processor and she was very evasive on questions I asked, finally saying that they could not fund my heloc due to my property having 12.5 acres and their limit was 10 acres. all of this was at the very last minute with no remorse. Requested to speak to a supervisor and was told that I would be contacted the next day. Never heard a word. Why couldn't they tell me that before I had paid for the appraisal And wasted a month of my time?TERRIBLE business practices! I guess that's the way things are done in New York.
The process from applying for a home equity loan to closing was quick and easy to follow! Better's loan consultant and coordinator did a great job at staying in contact and being available for questions, too!
