This year, april 2025, we had a really bad experience with the company CALDERA, we had prepaid a car in Thessaloniki for 3 weeks, when making the documents at arrival, they refused to give us the car because we were going to Thassos island indeed. no document stipulates this in the reservation. And the bad side is that they refused to refund us anything. They were rude, just stupid people with the aim of scamming you. Have to say that all the customers there did have issues at this office. So anyway, do never trust this CALDERA ...!

Arroganti, maleducati, quando ritiri l'auto ti dicono che è tutto a posto, quando la consegni e non hai fatto le foto ai danni che ha già l'auto, tentano di addebitarti il danno!! Attenzione anche se non lo dicono l'auto alla consegna deve essere pulita! Altrimenti l'addebito per la pulizia è salato!

Dishonest company – hidden charges and blackmail at the counter

I booked a car through Booking.com with Caldera at Athens Airport (Aug–Sep 2025). Before booking, I carefully checked both Booking.com’s rental conditions and Caldera’s own website terms. There was absolutely no mention of extra charges for ferries or for leaving Athens.

Yet, at the counter, Caldera demanded an extra €70 for taking the car on a ferry and €50 for driving outside Athens. When I refused, they showed me a printed sheet (not published anywhere online) and told me: “If you don’t want to pay these fees, you are free to go to another rental company.”

This was outrageous. We were literally in the middle of nowhere, with no alternative options and a ferry to catch, so I was forced to pay €120 just to get the car I had already booked.

This is nothing but blackmail and a scam. The company hides critical costs until the very last moment, leaving customers cornered and with no choice.

Caldera’s practices are dishonest, misleading, and unacceptable. Avoid them at all costs if you don’t want your trip ruined.

Recently hired a car from here (8th to 15th September 2025).

The car was fine at first but noticed that the clock on the dashboard didn’t match the clock on the radio, the radio displayed the correct time with the dash being between 2.5 to 3hrs behind. The radio was also completely untuned.

After 4 days of driving about we parked the car up and returned to it a short time later and the battery was flat. The clock and radio issues are symptomatic of a car that has previously had a battery issue.

We were provided a replacement vehicle although we had trips booked which would mean that other than getting the car back to the hotel, the only trip would’ve been back to the airport on the way home.

The trip to the hotel from where the exchange took place was less than a mile so nothing issues noticed.

Then came the time to get back to the apartment airport. On starting the car, the tyre pressure monitor was indicating an issue with a tyre. As I’d only done less than a mile, this must’ve been an issue for the driver that delivered the car to me and just topped up the pressure before meeting me.

Within 3 or 4 miles of the journey to the airport, the engine management light came on and the car started running badly, losing power which made driving up the steeper hills difficult, often needing to drop into 1st gear just to get going again with the car chugging and spluttering at normal running speeds. The clutch was also very juddery which I didn’t notice on the initial mile long journey back to the hotel with it being slightly down hill.

Returning the car, I notified the agent of the engine management warning light coming on and she was trying to blame me for putting in low quality fuel! Like I would’ve been able to select a lower grade than what comes out of a pump!

Then I was charged £75 for the initial car breaking down!

This company does not maintain their cars properly and they will charge you when you break down because of their lack of integrity over servicing and repairs.

I would not recommend this company at all.

Also, the company is not on the airport it’s on a main road about half a mile away across a busy road that has no pedestrian crossing section so you have to dodge in and out of traffic whilst carrying your hand luggage and wheeling your suitcases!

It’s also poorly signed and operated out of another car hire company’s office.

Nothing about this company is right.

Be careful ! Bad company. Cancel the reservation few ouars. Rentalcars save my and give me many back, but caldera it s horiblile.

The worst worst renting experiencing we have ever had. I was in tears when we were done with them. We rented from Caldera via carjet. Apparently they are a broker company. We also bought insurance separately before arrival. When we arrived there they told us because we don't have a credit card for the deposit we would have to buy insurance (€175) with them. This meant an excess of €150. Left with no.choice and multiple rude conversations from the manager and staff members we bought the insurance. When the car arrived that it was all banged up and the front right light wasn't working. They said it's fine it doesn't matter. Lol.

At the end of our trip unfortunately as we were driving the tyre popped and we had to change to the spare tyre. When we returned the car they told us we have to pay for a new tyre because it's not on the insurance. Either we pay €119 for new tyre Including labour or lose the deposit. We asked to speak with the manager he was on the phone, he refused to speak to us. I was pregnant and getting really upset so in the end we had to just pay again because it wasnt worth it. Honestly the worst experience ever. The staff are so rude and refused to give us their names. Hugely disappointed. Please don't book with them.

Fatte molta attenzione prima che prendete una macchina da quelli !!! Sono de ladri .Non mi hanno riconosciuto il contratto che avevo con Car Jet perché era in $ e mi hanno mantenuto più del dovuto + mi hanno accreditato intero assicurazione mentre su Car Jet avevo già pagato una parte .. Avoid - Scammers. Booked a car there and paid for additional driver and out of hours fee. On picking up car, suddenly there was a different price for the hire so showed them my voucher with the correct price. They then backed down on that. Then they said I still have to pay for the additional driver. Told them I already had and eventually they again backed down. Then the same again with the out of hours pick up fee. I already had paid this so argued about that and then they backed down. There were other people waiting to get cars as well all having similar issues. When I returned car they started on again about the out of hours fee. Another argument followed where I went through what they had done previously trying to say I hadn’t paid when I picked up car. Eventually they again backed down and said it’s ok it’s been paid it’s our mistake. There was another couple picking up a car when we were dropping off and they were arguing with them over their car hire as well. Anyway, the day after we dropped the car back I check my credit card statement and they have only charged the out of hours fee to my card without my authority after saying it was paid. I’ve never seen anything like it - scamming at its very best!

On ne vient pas vous chercher à l'aéroport, et on vous laisse attendre sans prévenir ; on ne vous raccompagne pas plus a à l'aéroport au retour.

Finger weg !!! Caldera Autovermietung auf Kos betrügt und lügt , dass sich die Balken biegen. Man versuchte uns dreist einen nicht vorhandenen Kratzer anzudichten. Das Personal ist sehr unfreundlich und absolut unprofessionell. Der Spektakel endete erst ohne weitere Konsequenzen für uns, als ich auf meinen beruflichen Hintergrund hinwies und mit rechtlichen Schritten drohte. Es ist eine Schande, dass Check24 bzw Aurum Cars mit so einer Abzocker-Firma zusammen arbeitet.

Das Auto hat über 100.000km und ist wirklich mehr als drüber. Da ständig irgendetwas geblinkt hat ist dieser Vermieter nichts für schwache Nerven. Man hat halt permanent Angst liegen zu bleiben. Nervig das übliche Aufzwingen einer weiteren Versicherung. Die natürlich NICHT nötig ist. Einzig sehr sehr positiv ist der Shuttle Bus Fahrer. Der kann ja nix für den Zustand der Autos. Mega freundlich und schnell.

Il noleggio è andato bene tutto sommato, non abbiamo avuto spese impreviste come è capitato a molti. Non ci hanno consegnato nulla alla restituzione dell’auto (documento, ricevuta) ma per un noleggio di 4 giorni mi hanno bloccato la carta per 1 mese. Dopo ripetuti solleciti via mail mi è stato risposto che facevano 40/80 addebiti al giorno e che non era mai capitato. Leggendo le tante recensioni su trustpilot e su Booking è evidentemente una balla. La prassi è questa e dovete tenerne conto prima di noleggiare in questa struttura.

We rented a car at the Caldera office in Kos. Getting the car was a bit tricky as they do require a credit card, and if we could not provide one, they would require us to purchase new insurance (on top of the insurance that we already bought with a third party).
The big issue happen when we had to return the car. After returning the keys, I went with the agent inspecting the car. I 100% knew that I returned the car in the exact same condition that I received it, but the agent stated that a new damaged was done on the car (which is absolutely wrong - I had full insurance and I would have honestly accept it if this was true). I challenged what he was saying, and I must admit I have never seem so much rudness dealing with a car agency in my life: raising his voice, talking over me constently, telling me that he could be my dad (I'm 35...), the fact that he has over 7 millions euros on the street (irrelevent...) and all sorts of other things that in no way would prove any evidence on the car damage. There was another agent in the car rental who was unable to find evidences in their logging system to support his claim. She was repeatedly telling him to let us go. This car rental agency has tones of bad reviews (check google reviews too), and I can only say from my own experience that those reviews are 100% legitimate. For your own peace of mind, avoid this agency at all cost.

J’ai passé ma réservation par un prestataire français qui travaille avec Caldera en Grèce. La navette nous a récupéré à l’aéroport d’Athènes. Le véhicule est fait pour neuf personnes. Il nous a fait monter à 10 personnes et arrivé sur place dans leur bureau. La dame de l’accueil était hautaine et très désagréable et expéditive pour recevoir le remboursement de notre véhicule, il a fallu que nous appelons BSP quasiment tous les jours afin qu’elle remette le document à BSP, qui confirme que nous n’avons pas pris le véhicule.

Auto mit sehr vielen Mängeln.
Dreckiges Auto, kein entgegenkommen.
Abbycar oder Caldera beides das selbe. nicht zuverlässig & schlechter Fahrzeugzustand.

The office at Corfu is Poor and that is putting in mildly, also not based at the airport and had to get directions from another car hire company ! Unhelpful staff and the car was damaged on every panel , when I complained the representative just didn’t care ! Will never use them again .

Our experience with Caldera was a Fraud. No one here to welcome you at the airport, no one answering to phone and car was canceled without any notice as our flight was delayed by 20 minutes. I am amazed that booking.com is working with them.

Le 25 juillet 2025 Paris Athènes TO3524 avec 50 mn de retard. Caldera joint par tel dit envoyer une navette, rappel 30 mn plus tard sans nouvelles, ils ont annulé la réservation avec une pénalité de 25% du prix de la location.

Loads of unexpective charges.if you use this company be aware that you can get turned away at the desk.also we got a tiny bit of sand in the car and they charged 80 euros.another thing we were stranded at Athens airport for 2 hours

Finger weg! Über Check24 gebucht und via Aurum Cars vermittelt. Auto wurde nicht ausgehändigt. Angeblicher Grund "nicht akzeptierte Kredit/Debitkarte ". Wir waren zu viert und hatten x Karten dabei. Das Auto war bereits im Vorraus bezahlt. Wir wurden mitten in der Nacht zurück an den Flughafen Thessaloniki gebracht und konnten aufgrund der Uhrzeit auch keine anderes Fahrzeug vor Ort mieten. 134 Euro für ein Taxi waren nur der Anfang der zusätzlichen Kosten. Check24 dürfte mit diesem Anbieter nicht zusammenarbeiten.
