Buyers Beware
This review is based on a pre-purchase survey I conducted to assess whether the online retailer CCC Warehouse is a trustworthy business for a high-value camera purchase worth several thousand dollars. Due to serious concerns uncovered during this investigation, I decided not to proceed with the purchase. My review is based on direct interactions with CCC Warehouse, inquiries made to Nikon Australia and its authorised repair centres, and verification of CCC Warehouse’s claims against PayPal’s policies and Australian Consumer Law (ACL).
Summary of Pre-Purchase Survey Findings:
1) CCC Warehouse claims to be an Australian business but provides no physical address in Australia. Several online reviews suggest they are actually based in Hong Kong, misrepresenting themselves as an Australian entity. To verify, I contacted CCC Warehouse via live chat and asked for their Australian Business Number (ABN) and a physical business address. They were reluctant to provide either. Without offering any evidence, they repeatedly claimed:
(a) they are an Australian business entity,
(b) their seller’s warranty guarantees repairs by Nikon Service Centres, and
(c) their customers are protected by the Australian Consumer Guarantee (implying coverage under ACL).
Such verbal claims without supporting evidence were unnecessary and were, to me, an indication of potential false advertising.
2) When I asked for the ABN again, they provided the ABN of a different company—ezipay.net, a payment subscription service with no public affiliation to CCC Warehouse. As these are two separate business entities, CCC Warehouse is not permitted to use ezipay.net’s ABN. Since their ABN cannot be linked to their business and no physical address is provided, verifying their legitimacy is not possible. Moreover, if a product is not delivered or a repair item is not returned, recovering funds or lodging a complaint with the ACCC would be extremely difficult.
3) After providing ezipay.net’s ABN, CCC Warehouse’s salesperson, Michael, claimed that customers don’t need to verify the ABN because “PayPal does all the checks” and that “online shopping in Australia is simple as long as the shop uses PayPal.” This implies that using PayPal guarantees a store’s legitimacy. However, PayPal’s business account requirements can be reviewed on their official website, and this claim is clearly misleading.
4) CCC Warehouse also claimed that warranty repairs are arranged with the customer’s nearest Nikon Service Center and that it would be “basically the same local warranty servicing”—implying their warranty is equivalent to Nikon Australia’s. To verify, I contacted Nikon Customer Service via the phone number listed on Nikon Australia's website. They clearly stated that servicing grey importers like CCC Warehouse is out of the question. I also contacted four of Nikon’s five authorised repair centres in Australia: Hartlands Camera Repairs explicitly stated that they do not service CCC Warehouse products. Anderson Camera Repairs clarified that while they offer independent repair services for grey imports and end-users, but not by representing Nikon Australia.
This confirms that CCC Warehouse’s warranty is not equivalent to Nikon’s and that their claims are false.
After finding so many red flags, I can only say "Buyers beware"!
