Misleading Subscription Model – Lack of Transparency in CFI FMVA

I enrolled in CFI’s FMVA program believing it was a one-time payment for lifetime access, as is common for many certification courses. At no point during the purchase process was it made clear that the payment was part of an annual subscription model. The only mention was a small line buried at checkout stating “each year,” which is easy to miss and does not match the upfront impression given on the program’s main pages.

After my initial term ended, I lost access to all study materials unless I paid another full year’s subscription fee. When I contacted support, they confirmed there are no exceptions to their policy, even though the course marketing suggests learners can complete it “at their own pace.”

While the learning content itself was solid, the lack of transparency and unwillingness to offer a reasonable resolution left me feeling misled. For anyone considering this program, be aware that the cost is recurring annually, not a one-time purchase, and you will lose access to your progress if you don’t renew.

I hope CFI improves its communication around pricing so future students can make an informed decision before committing

I recently completed the FMVA course and found it incredibly valuable. The content was well-structured and highly relevant to my work in commodity trading as a senior accountant/analyst. Beyond mastering financial modeling techniques, one unexpected but highly practical skill I gained was becoming fully proficient in Excel without using a mouse - keyboard shortcuts have made my work much faster and more efficient. Now I’m the person chuckling (and maybe quietly complaining) when I see someone reach for the mouse in Excel 😂. This course delivers both technical expertise and productivity gains that are immediately applicable in a professional setting.

CFI offers a wide range of finance courses with clear explanations and practical case studies that make complex concepts easier to grasp. The self-paced learning is convenient, and the resources are high quality. I especially appreciate the real-world examples that help apply theory to practice. The only room for improvement is providing more interactive elements or live sessions for deeper engagement.

Trust the process.

The format of the training is very good with clear demonstrations, and what is also like about the videos is you are able to go back as many times if you have not understood.
The interactive exercises as well are very good as they enable you to test your knowledge.

Lot of practical, highly valuable lessons. Could save many hours on the job!

One of the most updated & well versed certification.

What make the FMVA certificate standout among other certifications, is that it supply you with conceptual/ technical knowledge and teach you how to apply it using excel.

Usually other certifications require candidates to understand the concepts and that’s it. However, FMVA ensures that candidates learn how apply these concepts in practice.

The course content and pedagogy was really great. However probably a little more content could have been added on the debt scheduling and interest part. Just an opinion.

It was practical and filled with a lot of hands on experiences.

I did 4 of the certifications including FMVA. I'm already a CPA, but wanted to get a good depth of knowledge on the finance side. CFI did not disappoint. It really is CFA-light. Not sure if it's going to open up any new doors for me, but the subscription paid for itself just in the knowledge I've already applied in business, finance and my own personal investment analysis.

i think the information in the lessons are great. but the lessons are super super easy. they keep repeating the keyboard shortcuts, which i already use. but with the exams they require a score of atleast 80% which is good. but they use completly different names on the exams, which makes it way harder. i have already completed 7 modules of the FMVA certificate but all of them are the same. lessons way to easy, like you are a child and the exams are just not representable with the lessons. which is super annoying, you also cant see what you did wrong its just a red cross.
