I have had the worst experience with Find A Grave

I have had the worst experience with Find A Grave, There's a contributor who spends 24/7 collecting obituaries the Second it gets posted and doesn't allow anyone else to grab, This contributor does NOT go to cemeteries and volunteers what so ever, He has more memorials than photographs, When I left the site, I specifically asked find a grave to send them to a few of my Find A Grave friends to which by the way, 100% failed to do so, and that one contributor I did NOT want to get any of my memorials grabbed like 90% of em!! and changed what I had done. One thing that drove me crazy is that this person removes the period by the middle initial which I dont have a clue why, Its not his to start with. Admins cherish this person since He has broken all the rules in the Find A Grave thing, Create duplicates, sending nasty emails to others, etc. and I got yelled at by the admins for duplicates. Like I don't think so. This person did his damnest to get rid of me, well he has succeeded. I got tired of this same thing over and over again. For someone who managed nearly 200k memorials and photos which btw most of them were copyright from other peoples work is less than 20k, what does that say? I had more photos than memorials which means I was a true volunteer, I dont sit around all day and all night collecting memorials so no one gets them and get mad everytime someone asks for a transfer cause your losing 1 memorial.. oh boo hoo...

I agreed to take photos

I agreed to take photos. A couple of days later I asked advice and assistance via a web chat. I agreed to pay $2 for a phone call from an"expert". I felt this a bit off. While processing the "$2" payment via Paypal I saw that Patpal was going to transfer $74.

ZERO Star Information Rip-off

ZERO Stars. Find a Grave is a poorly-managed, user unfriendly site purportedly providing individuals with information about the final resting place of loved-ones and friends. THEY ARE NOT. Find A Grave is one of the private information-gathering arms of a cult which places great significance on family history to support their spurious doctrine of being baptized for the dead. That being said, you will find that about 75% of the people reviewing Find A Grave give it one star (or less). EVERYTHING they do is biased toward their own organization. They "allow" people to give them free research and post it to their site as if it were true. God forbid it if you should ever have to correct information submitted by a member who has been on the site for 14 years and contributed 23,000 memorials. THEY ARE GODS -- you don't dare correct them (even if it was wrong information they "memorialized" about your own parents!!!). I just want to save people the hearthache of going on ANY family history website with the false hope of getting help from them. All you will do is give free information for them to make money off of, and end up with a bunch of someone else's poorly-researched, hastily-posted information about your loved-ones and friends. Don't CONTRIBUTE a single thing -- and don't believe the garbage they churn out as they laugh all the way to the bank at your expense.

Badly managed site refuses genuine first hand knowledge

Zero stars. Some people complain about "grave harvesting" folk who get a kick out of "owning" other people's memorials which they have no connection with. And that's one problem. But THEN when a family member comes along with useful information and tries to take over the management of a family member's memorial they are refused! The robotic people who run this site have no genuine interest they are just in it for the money. Avoid this site!

KB

Is this some joke of a website

Is this some joke of a website? Total strangers trawling through cemetery records then adding them as their personal memorial records. Families should own their own family members memorial records and no one else. Surely there are copyright issues that should be applied and this site taken down immediately. My Father paid for a new headstone for my Great Grandparents and we took a photo of it and uploaded it to a newly created memorial. Someone then sends me a message saying it is a duplicate and could I remove it and now using my photo on their memorial record. How can anyone accumulate nearly two million headstones and claim that they now’own’ these graves. It is totally sickening and lacks any dignity or integrity whatsoever. The owners of this site should be prosecuted and have this site removed and banned from operating in this way

I been on Findagrave for over 11 years… time to minimize contribultions

I been on Findagrave for over 11 years and it seems to be getting worse than better. Customer support is terrible. They delete memorials without letting the creator know. They have no way of blocking unwanted members from contacting you.. you got to accept all or none. So I finally decided none is the best option.

Also the number of adverts is sometimes ridiculous. And they just increased the cost of sponsoring memorials from 5$ to 10$ and the new format is also terrible.. So I will not be sponsoring anymore memorials there. Or adding many more memorials there..

I have started to delete most of my memorials that were there. I will only keep the few that I sponsor. The ones I have a particular interest in I will move to my own websites. I do not feel like letting Findagrave make money off my research while they provide an unresponsive and toxic environment to persist.

Nightmare for relatives doing genealogy…

Nightmare for relatives doing genealogy research. Memorial managers are very possessive about the memorials they manage. They completely disregard any sources you provide by not even reading them. They think they’re Gods. They remind me of the elder government officials running our country who desperately cling to power and refuse to allow younger generations who actually use technology to make sources-based contributions. Some managers never bother to reply to messages at all. One manager posted an unmarked newspaper clipping (no source) stating that a relative died in Alabama when he never lived there. In his bio she wrote he died in London and in an email to me she wrote that she believed he died in Canada. I believe this woman is incapable of managing her own memorial, much less the memorial of my 3x great grandfather. Would I recommend findagrave? No. Will I opt out? Yes. Been using site for six months and had nothing but problems with greedy, self-righteous Memorial managers.

This site has been ruined by the owners

They no longer have reviews for the cemetery. My mom and brother are in, it no longer recognizes the name of Greenhill cemetery in San Pedro or Palo Verdes. Also, if you stay on the site long enough, it will tell you that it is scanning your hard drive and it will tell you that your Norton is no longer working, so I don’t have Norton

Less than one star

LESS than ONE STAR!
I have requested to manage one of my great aunt's children's memorial. (She is my first cousin once removed) I have done extensive time-consuming research and posted beautiful pictures of her as a younger person that I acquired from family onto her Memorial. She in my family tree which Find A Grave asks us now if we are related If we are family why does FInd A Grave want to know? ... I have been turned down, and must work with a person that is currently managing my ancestor’s memorial page that won’t communicate with me. I pray, he will allow me to manage her page b/c I’m tired of begging Find A Grave employees. I have been told, by a Find A Grave employee (that I have to wait 21 days to have the edits approved by a senior employee at Find a Grave) b/c he ( the current manager) won’t do them and is not related to anyone in my family tree... If being a relative isn't that important, why are they asking? Thx J.

There is no accountability to the…

There is no accountability to the volunteers that are disrespectful to family members trying to get transfers. There needs to be away to look these graves after transfers to family members, exspically when dealing with volunteers who are just in it for the number listing.

The one that holds the majority of my family and is not related to my family. He grabbed them back in 2012 did very few things, other volunteers added information. He put my grandmothers birth certificate at the time I asked for her transfer.

This is a response I received from him about a transfer of my 2nd great grandfather.

"Since you very recently burst upon the scene, you immediately became a grabber, a collector.
This site is not a candy wagon spewing out candy to see how much candy a kid can stuff in their candy bag.
Memorials are not to be viewed as property, as something to OWN.
A huge number of contributors have spent an enormous amount of hours making this site the valuable resource that it is. You have not shown any inclination to add new memorials, but just to request transfers of already existing ones."

I didn’t know about the 2great grandparent transfer rules, (the one that held his wife in another city transferred without hesitation).
All the other transfers were within that rules.
I asked for my aunt but before transferring her. He went through every one of my family members and started putting marriage licenses and other items, and requested a load of corrections to them. There are other family members that fall within that rule, when I ask for transfers what is he going to add to them before transfering.

The generation things needs to change, most of the 2nd generation in the USA is from immigrants that came to this country in the 1800s. These families should be able to put information in that we know is correct, and be able to tell their story. These graves are peoples ancestors and should never be allowed to be held by non family members.

Personally I’m not jumping on the bandwagon and grabbing people I don’t know, and telling their family history, that is for each family to do themselves.

Maybe find a grave should get rid of totals of what volunteers have contributed, so it’s not a completion to see how many they can grab, how many contributions they made, how many they mange, and how many hold.
They would definitely weed out the bad volunteers.

Because when it comes down to it these graves each have a history, and should never be used as a game.

FindaGrave has grave issues

Utterly useless customer support and resolving IT issues despite multiple emails.

As has been pointed out in other reviews "grave collectors" have been allowed to take over the site with no real regard to those who actually knew the person or the accuracy of the information.

Each grave represents a REAL PERSON and not just data that is used by ancestry.com to make money.

So many people trash Find-a-Grave

So many people trash Find-a-Grave. I am into tracing my heritage as a hobby and this site helped me so much that I felt the need to pay others contributions forward. When used properly, it is a treasure trove of information to those like me. I have found errors and instead of trashing the site or contributor, I assist in resolving the discrepancy. Anyone, in my opinion, that try's to be the first to create a profile is contributing but not in the right way. I tend to answer request for photo's.
While searching for the headstone, if I see interesting or neglected headstones, I clean them up, take a photo and check to see if there is a memorial for the relatives to find. Those that label all contributors, "grave collectors", are ignorant and shallow.

Allow strangers to post memorials immediately after death

Trash site that allows armchair moron grave collector strangers to post memorials on your loved one the minute they see the obituary posted. I was told they had instituted a waiting period to allow families to post first. NOT correct!! When I tried to merge one of my great uncle, they said I changed my facts too many times ( yeah, cause I want to grill family about exactly where he died and was to be buried, one day later!!) SO hurtful and frustrating that they allow this to go on with these losers who get some kind of thrill out of collecting postings!!!!!

A kind collection of volunteers remembering those gone before us

Find A Grave has proven to me to be a group of kind and helpful people who have linked me to the graves of family, friends and historically significant people. I would have never visited any of those graves and lost those people forever. A number of friends who were killed when I was in the Marines just disappeared from my life. No memorial service, no graveside visits. They were buried in their hometowns I'd never visit and I would move on with their loss. I found them all and virtually visited their graves on this site. A note I left linked me and through me, many friends, with my dead friend's family. I can't say enough good things about this site and the good people who come together here to help complete strangers -- especially help alleviate their grief.

VERY ANNOYING POP-UP ADS!!!!

Findagrave CAN be very beneficial to find and connect family members. However, there doesn't seem to be many rules to post information. There are a lot of errors. So, beware...... and do your own research. Once something gets posted, it's almost impossible to get it corrected. I used to use Findagrave often. But now, it's so ANNOYING with all the pop-up ads. I just gave up and don't use it very much any more. It's very frustrating to have to 'x' out on EVERY SINGLE PAGE.... They have to be making a fortune!!

Find A Grave addicts

Been using the site for more than 15 years but in the last few it has really gone downhill with the admins as bad if not worse than the contributors. Adding a memorial with no headstone and very little or no information whatsoever is not a memorial. It's an addictive way of ... 'let's see who can collect the most memorials.' It's gone to hell! If I could give the site -1 I would.
