I am currently selling my flat through Gordon Brown Law and have never experienced such dire service or communication. I have chased my conveyancer 5 times for an update on where the process is and haven't heard anything back from her for weeks, it's absolutely shocking and extremely frustrating! I also cannot get through to the firm on their phone after many attempts and 15-30 mins on hold each time, so I am lost as to where to go. Based on my experience so far, I would advise avoiding Gordon Brown Law at all costs.

At this stage I would leave zero stars if I could.

The service is incredibly poor from start to finish. We have been in a position to exchange for weeks with all parties ready to go except for GBL. We’ve submitted the correct documents time and time again without feedback or communication on fixed dates which keep getting delayed. I would not use this firm again as everything has been so poorly managed and resulted in no end of extra stress. I hope the customer service respond to this and get our sale finally moving.

I’ve submitted an email of formal complaint today and expect action to be taken but I won’t be holding my breath.

Excellent service, efficient turn around of information and responding to emails and calls, whilst maintaining an approachable manner. Very competitive price and clearly outlined upfront so not hidden costs later.

Emily Knill was our conveyancer and she was brilliant, really took time to understand the complexity of the various property deeds and explained everything in simple layman terms- so many other solicitors tend to wrap you up in their own language. I wouldn’t hesitate on using them again or recommending them to friends and family. We completed in under 6 weeks from acceptance of our offer ! A very efficient service from start to finish. Initial contact is all by the app which is easy to navigate and questions are usually responded to the next day.
Our sale was completed in 12 weeks and managed by Laura-Jo who was professional, efficient, timely, responsive and supportive, especially when we faced challenges from our buyers solicitor who moved the completion date 3 times. We found it very stressful but Laura-Jo remained calm and ensured our exchange date happened as soon as possible. All
of our requests for a call back were met and Laura-Jo kept in touch regularly on our completion day. Our final sale confirmation and transfer amounts were confirmed by email as soon as the sale was completed.

Just want to thank Gordon brown Law and Sara Thompson in particular for their and her support during the purchase and sale of 2 properties. Sara was quick to respond and very informative when I had any queries. I would highly recommend.

From the get go, the process was made so simple with everything being input through the app. When it was picked up by Caitlin, she handled the case brilliantly, keeping us up to date and moving things along quickly. We felt in safe hands. We had a very stressful week before completing and I know that Caitlin was chasing things up to ensure we met the completion date. Friday (completion day) was especially stressful as we were dealing with a difficult onward purchase vendor and solicitor. We had packed up the house by this point, booked days off and sorted childcare so it was such a relief when we got the confirmation. I just wanted to leave this review to thank Caitlin for being so fabulous. I did worry a bit when I realised my partner had booked a solicitor in Newcastle when we live in Leeds ha ha! But honestly it’s been an absolute pleasure.

Absolutely shocking experience.

I have used this firm 2 times this year. The first time my case was handled to Louis Reed, who was absolutely excellent, always responded to my emails in a timely manner, asked for documentation once and explained and contextualised everything fully, leading to a relatively painless and quick purchase of our new house within 8 weeks, fantastic!

Fast forward a few months and it's time to sell my old house (I didn't purchase my new house in a chain) and wow, what a shift in quality.

Since Louis was so brilliant, I asked if I could use his services again to sell my old house, he originally said yes, but then passed me onto Faith Crooks, as he said his case load was too full.

Faith is absolutely terrible, I am now at the 14-15 week of conveyance for a very simple chain free purchase, this should have been completed in 4-8 weeks as the buyers were already prepared after their previous sale falling through.

Faith barely responds to emails, the 5% of the time she does it's one line which answers none of my questions or provides any context. She's lost pieces of documentation I have sent her several times. She drip feeds information and documentation requests. A few days before exchange she is asking me for documentation she already has.

The service is abysmal and anxiety-inducing, I am in contact with the sellers as I am my own estate agent, and there have been times their solicitor has responded and Faith just sits on it unresponded to for days. Every time their incompetence continues to delay my case, the more money it is costing me to pay for 2 houses. These are peoples lives, please get a grip and some element of client centricity, because right now it doesn't exist.

I have still not completed the sale yet and doubt I will for several weeks, even though there isn't a reason not to.

Please avoid them, it seems some of the 5 star reviews here are fake, or they were lucky and got a decent solicitor like I had with Louis, but overall a company having such variance in quality of service between their staff shows that their management and internal policies are awful.

Please just shop around for a good conveyancer with good reviews, these guys will end up costing you far more money and stress in the long run by not doing their job or communicating effectively.

The first few months of our house sale felt a bit painful with Gordon Brown Law, the customer service number is not the number you want to call, wrong information, rude individuals, telling us about a house sale that wasn’t ours, putting the phone down on us when realising they had made mistakes. Unfortunately this happened on four occasions…. Worrying!

However, once we got the direct dial of our conveyancer, progress started to be made. She did fantastic meeting our revised sale date and on the whole, did a really good job.

With regard to my review of Gordon Brown Law. I found this company on the surface a good idea as they were recommended by estate agent. They provide an app that you can follow and update with as much info as possible prior to any sale so that the sale can progress promptly. This was done and when the offer came in I expected a prompt sale as no chain and cash buyer.
I found a number of failings .. namely constant enquiries drip fed and I had to resolve. Spending hours chasing down information that the conveyancer should be doing. The drip feeding of enquiries and lack of information coming back re time scales was horrendous. All enquiries sent to me were answered on the day by dropping everything to ensure they were done immediately. I am not a conveyancer or solicitor why was I doing your conveyancers job ?
What was very telling was the day before completion ID checks were required from the seller . Why was this done hours before the sale completion. This should have been done initially as common sense should be that you know who you are dealing with !
Another telling factor was the power of attorney rules of jointly and separately . You do not require both attorneys to make decisions on financial matters. Your excuse is contacting the second attorney was ‘ due diligence’. What then is the point of a power of attorney in the circumstances used. Again this was a last second enquiry. These are just two of the multiple frustrations and shocking poor service .
A final point the fixed fee we were quoted did not end up as such . We just wanted the sorry saga finished. I also noted that the bill was sent to be paid at the time of completion.
I do not recommend this company and suggest the reviews be examined in full not just the positive remarks.

1 star just because there isn’t an option for 0 star. Where do I start from?

We are currently in an ongoing patronage and it has been nothing but a frustrating experience. How could you let us deal with a conveyancer who never communicates? To have a single word with them is outrightly impossible. We literally cannot get a hold of anyone. Zero comms on what is going on with our file.

Not cool!

We used Gordon Brown Law for our house sale and purchase and had a very positive experience. Our conveyancer Alex Findlay was responsive and helpful whenever we needed guidance or clarification during the process. This made a stressful process feel smoother and more straightforward.
