TitleMajor Design Flaw – Do Not Buy for Nesting Season

I initially wanted to like this Green Backyard nest box camera because the image quality was actually quite decent. However, the technical execution and design are fundamentally flawed for their intended purpose.

The Main Issue:
The camera frequently loses its Wi-Fi connection. To reconnect or reset the device, you are required to have the camera scan a QR code from your phone screen. This requires opening the nest box and accessing the camera's interior.

The Dealbreaker:
As any bird lover knows, you cannot open the box or disturb the nest once birds are breeding. Because the app lost the signal during the nesting period, I was left with a "blind" camera and no way to fix it without risking the brood. This makes the entire system completely useless when it matters most.

Customer Service & Conclusion:
I contacted their customer service, but they were absolutely unhelpful and offered no viable solution for this catch-22 situation. Out of pure frustration, I have thrown this unit in the trash.

I have since purchased a camera from a different company that actually stays connected (and can be managed remotely). I can finally watch my birds online without interference. Save your money and your nerves—look elsewhere.

Poor app and set up

You will tear you hair out trying to set it up. The app is terrible and you need a phd in electronics to get the connections and method of connection working. I managed to get it set up once but only to have it all reset when I went to install it. I emialled tech support and fair dues they were 10/10 for commuications often replying straight away over email. Shame it didnt work as it looked solid and the picture was good when camera was working.

Only for the tech-savvy

I am quite tech-savvy and so I got the camera working after 3 or 4 hours of frustration. Less technical people would go through hell. The manual is written in Chinglish, is superficial and VERY misleading. The QR codes should make installation a breeze but rarely worked. I TRIED to follow the manual and the on-line instructions but got nowhere. Only when I ignored them completely and used my own knowledge and experience did the camera burst into life. Now that it is working I have nothing but praise for it, with good picture quality and range. If only the company had got its act together when writing the manual it would be getting much better reviews than it is.

Not really impressed...

Connected and tested on my table and it worked well. Mounted it in my nearbye stable were all my other wifi-equipment works fine. Found that camera connects only very poorly. What doestn't help is the manual which is definitely not one of the best I've ever seen. Maybe because we are still experimenting results will improve but sofar I'am quite disappointed.

Meanwhile a few weeks in use 05-06-'25. Very disappointing .poor results only things well received are commercials... No value for money.

I AM TOO FRUSTRATED OVER THE TECHNICAL…

I AM TOO FRUSTRATED OVER THE TECHNICAL AND SUPPORT ISSUES THAT I CAN NOT FIND THE WORDS TO EXPRESS HOW DISAPPOINTED I AM RIGHT NOW. THE TIME DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CHINA AND USA MAKES GETTING ANY EFFICIENT SUPPORT IMPOSSIBLE. ESPECIALLY WHEN THE ONLY RESPONSE YOU GET AT 12AM IS "IS THE POWER ON?" THEN YOU DON'T HEAR FROM THEM FOR ANOTHER 24 HRS. I AM LIVID RIGHT NOW. I HAVE GIVEN THIS COMPANY WAY TOO MANY CHANCES AND PATIENCE, LOSING HOURS OF MY TIME.

Camera will not reconnect to WiFi

I had my long distance camera (1.5 years) connected to wifi with no issues. On Jan 2025 it dropped my wifi signal and couldn’t be reconnected. So, I ordered a new camera to rule out any camera issues. When I received the new camera, it would not connect with the Green Backyard App via wifi either. The other issue worth mentioning, there is major time difference between the Chinese Tech Services and East Coast USA. Not to mention a language barrier. I’m very surprised this product can be marketed in the US with so many written errors in the IFU’s, or the lack of troubleshooting guidelines that are relevant to the camera model and the fiber optic network router that I use. Right now I have to wait on a response from Tech Services which is usually 2AM US EST. It’s impossible to rectify a problem one email at a time rather than have a more local service line for customers in the US to access. I would have given this product a 1 star, but the 1.5 years that my camera actually worked, the video quality was excellent. I even took extra precautions and installed the recommended power surge protector. Just a very unpleasant experience for me.

not recommended

First one crashed after a week and starting flashing light. The second one refuses to get wifi. Good servicedesk ( very friendly and helpful) but poor unclear instructions. Doesn't work at all : so sad :((

Worked out OK.

I purchased a Bird Box camera from this site. It arrived today. Excitedly, I tried to set up the mobile app to test the camera.

My excitement turned to frustration over the next few hours as email verification codes never arrived, and I still haven't been able to use the app.

I tried to connect the camera directly to my NAS, but the camera seems to be assigned a static IP instead of DHCP and that IP is not valid on my network. Thus, I can't connect it to NAS yet..... it's all a bit amateurish and clunky.

So far it hasn't worked at all for me. I see it has been sending data out to the internet for the past few hours so maybe it is streaming images to the cloud server... but I can't access them yet.

Maybe things will improve (and if they do I'll update the review) but I won't get these few hours back.

UPDATE - the camera is working well now. Tech support got me into the mobile app. The camera did eventually pick up a local IP. Image quality is quite good and streaming/recording to my NAS.
