I would give a review but as we walked into the Aldeburgh shop at 4.59 with 3 people in front of us paying for ice cream, we were told that sorry we cannot serve as we are closed!
It's wonderful in this climate that a company is doing so well they can turn away a party if four just so they can leave at 5 on the dot and not 5 past their alloted working hours!
Poor show. Recruit better staff

I was delighted with the quality and taste of the chocolate shortbread, I have tried all types and my favourite are dark chocolate and chocolate orange, I have ordered three times and will keep ordering, lovely treat and present to loved ones. Also great customer service when there was a slight delay in my order. I cannot recommend high enough, well done HandJ team and keep up the great work!

Visited the new h&j cafe in beccles today
After ordering at the counter we were left waiting for 35 mins for our tea ! Not a good start , I had ordered a cheese scone advertised at £3 but was charged £3.70 apparently the butter doesn’t come with it ! What ? Should this not be advertised , after nearly an hour I approached counter again for said cheese scone and asked for it again as my carpark time would run out before i even got my food , and then found my decaf tea was more expensive than a normal tea and despite a slightly larger cup that’s it no second cup like normal tea drinkers get with their little tea pots

Horrible place. Looked like a stockroom with chocolate boxes everywhere. To take a seat you have to navigate round an empty deli counter. They need to decide what they want to be - café, pizzeria or choclatier, as currently an awful café. The hot chocolate was the worst I have ever had & expensive for a basic hot chocolate. I couldn't drink it! Our drinks were in plastic mugs & the muffins were in brown bags, felt like we had stopped at a roadside food van. Not very welcoming or relaxing after a drive to get to Southwold.

Do not bother with this place, plenty of better and cheaper places on the High St in Southwold to have a drink.

Follow up after response from Alex: Thank you for responding, perhaps more should be made of the eco-friendly cups, etc. with more information on display to explain this otherwise the cups just look cheap & plastic. Also looking at another previous review, it stated you had a refit. It is a shame therefore you couldn't have found a better location for the deli counter, especially if left empty or just used to display boxes of chocolates part of the year.

I recently purchased some delicious dark, mint and salted caramel chocolate from this family run business. The packaging is attractive that reflects creativity and you could tell that a lot of thought and care had gone into every detail. They pride themselves on sourcing high-quality, ethically sourced cocoa beans from sustainable farms and this is definitely reflected in the rich, complex flavours of their chocolate. Whether you’re a chocolate connoisseur or just someone who enjoys a sweet treat, I highly recommend giving them a try. You won’t be disappointed.

I gave this company one star as prior to reviewing, I emailed them six weeks go saying how disappointed I was with the chocolates and especially as they wrap the individual chocolates in plastic wrappers. As it was hot weather, they were sweating. I usually buy Holdsworth chocolates and they are brilliant.

I never did get a reply from H&J hence my poor review. It’s a good idea to reply to customers and handle the complaint so that the customer does not resort to posting like this. Also the picture on the box did not represent what was in the box, a mixture of dark milk and white chocolate. They were all milk. So very disappointed and would never buy them again.

Thank you for replying. I did not receive an email from you and check my Spam every day. Yes the box showed dark, white and milk chocolates. If they only had milk chocolates, that’s misrepresentation. I still don’t think each chocolate should be wrapped in plastic. My family thought they looked very cheap. It’s a lesson learned, I will stick to my trusted supplier.

I love having coffee at Harris & James in Southwold but recently they refurbished it. When you order coffee to have in the shop they now serve it up in disposable cups instead of china cups. How can this be sustainable? I spoke to the manager and she said that when the shop was refurbished the dishwasher was taken away. I have written to complain but have had no answer. In the meantime I won’t be having coffee there any more.

I thought I would buy some chocolate ice cream only to discover when I’d gotten home that the ‘chocolate’ ice cream hasn’t much chocolate in it. It contained emulsifiers and E numbers and various other ingredients that left me wishing I’d read the ingredients before purchase.

In full disclosure, I work in chocolate but not for this company.
If you are new to dark chocolate, try their 70%. We like their 85% as well. I do not like their coffee chocolate but things are subjective.
We have not had their hot chocolate but we learned of the company on a visit to Suffolk and heard others talking about it. When I order online, it always shows up well wrapped and on time.
I shared some of the 85% at a recent tasting and many liked it. Not all liked it, as that is realistic situation 85%, but I find it is a bar that is not astringent and overwhelming. When my husband was hospitalized for cancer, he started talking to a fellow patient about health and diet and recommended this bar as a satiating treat he could savor and not scoff. His fellow patient really liked the Harris and James bars.

The ice cream is beautiful, and the products they have on store is perfect for a birthday or Christmas treat, my grandparents loved it and we always go here because we are trusting in their everlasting quality

I have bought several products Harris & James now, as I was particularly drawn to there ethos of being a craft chocolate, small, sustainable, family run company. There products I have always found to be great quality and it is reassuring that you can see the product inside the bar for many of there bars. I recently placed an online order with them which was sent free (and for a lower minimum order level than rivals) and arrived swiftly. The packaging was sustainable yet secure and not using anymore packaging than was needed (which is reassuring given the companies principles). I would thoroughly recommend Harris & James, not just for your Christmas chocolate (and edible goodies) but a company you can order from all year round!!!
