Unprofessional hosts at the Skirrid Inn…
Unprofessional hosts at the Skirrid Inn ghost hunt. Having attended previously with a different company we had high hopes but were left disappointed with one of our group even having a nap during the session.
One team member was googling information on her phone while at the church which completely ruined the vibe.
We were advised that the real fun would begin at midnight when the pub closed for the evening but we felt the evening became a joke from then on.
What followed was three hours of the hosts making sexual innuendos about the 'Judge' and 'Fanny' and a soul reliance on the ghost tube app - even when attempting to communicate via Ouiji.
Having attended other paranormal ghost hunts, we don't expect activity and understand that at authentic nights it may be quiet. However, after the opening talk about being respectful to the spirits, we were gobsmacked by the amount of times the host yelled out 'oh come and play with my balls Judge'...
The hosts ruined a fantastic venue and safe to say we will never attend another event with Haunted Houses!!

Resposta da Haunted Houses Events Ltd
Dear Nicola,
Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. My name is Kit, and I’m the Event Operations Manager here at Haunted Houses Events. I'm genuinely sorry to read that your visit to the Skirrid Inn fell short of expectations, particularly as we understand how important the atmosphere and delivery are during a ghost hunt.
We take all guest comments seriously, especially when someone feels let down by our team. While we always aim to inject moments of humour where appropriate to keep the night engaging, it’s clear from your review that the tone in parts of the night didn’t resonate well with you — and I appreciate you sharing that perspective.
With regards to the use of a mobile phone at the churchyard, I will look into this with the relevant team member, as we agree it’s vital to protect the ambiance of each vigil. Similarly, your comment about the use of innuendo and the balance between entertainment and respect is noted. Although some guests enjoy a more relaxed approach during late-night sessions, we understand this isn’t suitable for everyone — and we will be reminding our hosts that tone and professionalism should always be judged carefully.
I’d also like to reassure you that tools such as GhostTube and similar mobile apps are not part of our official toolkit. If used at all, they should always be presented clearly as experimental and based on guest interest — never as a primary method. If the use of such tools felt repetitive on your night, we will certainly take that on board and review it.
Regarding the language quoted in your review, we’d like to offer a little context for readers unfamiliar with ghost hunting equipment or the venue’s history. The “balls” mentioned are standard paranormal trigger devices — touch-sensitive objects that light up when moved or touched, commonly used in vigils to detect possible spirit interaction. The name “Fanny” also refers to Fanny Price, a spirit historically linked to the Skirrid Inn. That said, we acknowledge that humour was used in those references, and we’ll be reminding our hosts that tone should always stay appropriate and be balanced thoughtfully with guest expectations and the respectful atmosphere of the venue.
With your valued feedback, we’ll be reviewing this with the wider team to ensure future events strike the right balance between professionalism, entertainment, and respect for each venue’s atmosphere and history. While tone and delivery may vary slightly between hosts, our core standards remain the same — and we’re always refining based on guest insight.
Thank you again for sharing your experience. If you’d like to speak with me directly about anything in more detail, you’re very welcome to email me at bookings@haunted-houses.co.uk — I’d be happy to listen.
Wishing you all the best,
Kit

An unforgettable night at Fort Widley!
My daughter and I had an absolutely amazing time on the ghost hunt at Fort Widley this past Saturday. From start to finish, it was such a good experience, and we're already buzzing about booking again in the future.
What truly made the night so great were the hosts. While all four hosts were fantastic, the two who led our group were particularly brilliant. Their enthusiasm, knowledge, and engaging personalities really brought the experience to life (or perhaps, un-life!). The group size was also perfect, allowing for a really intimate and personal investigation.
Overall, it was a thrilling and genuinely enjoyable night, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fantastic paranormal experience!

Have been on a few spirit hunts how with this company, the people who run the night are lovely, very welcoming, friendly, and nothing sounds stupid to them. Non judgmental and really down to earth.
Different sites have different feelings so if your really looking to spirit hunt or ghost hunt I would suggest booking a few different places as not all are as active as you would think

An amazing night at Fort Widley
I had an amazing night at Fort Widley, the hosts that handled the night were so lovely and welcoming; this was my first ghost hunt and I was alone so I was extremely anxious to the point I almost skipped and the hosts made me feel at ease straight away I wish I remembered their names. You can tell the hosts are very passionate about what they do and have a lot of experience with ghost hunting 😁
Didn’t experience a lot of activity but all the encounters my group had were genuine and nothing was faked and it was so fun hearing the other groups encounters at the end of the night.
My only suggestion is with the human pendulum method is maybe blindfold and cover the persons ears so it makes the method more real since sometimes people can fake leaning backwards and forwards to answer the questions 🤔 (I don’t think this happened on my night but just an idea incase some hardcore skeptics go on future hunts)

Laura was our guide at Ashwell prison last night. I am not always sure what to expect on a ghost hunt. A fairly small group with some good energy. Lots of activity from the equipment and time for free exploring at the end. We even have some interesting videos and was able to use the debunking methods they suggested ! We will be booking again !

We attended Newsham Park Hospital last night, there was 10 in our group plus our lovely guide and her friend. We couldn't have asked for a better guide. She was so welcoming and put us all right at ease. Once we were shown all the equipment she encouraged us to fully participate and use all the equipment for ourselves. We went up to the top floor where the naughty boys corridor is and heard voices and noises on the devices. We went all over and had such a spooky and funny night, loved every second (maybe apart from being shut in the naughty boys cupboard in the dark 🤣). We will definitely be booking on another one. Thanks to our guide for putting up with us especially my naughty dad 🤣. 10 out of 10.

Group One’s host was Laura — we’ll be sure to pass on your kind words and make a proper fuss of her for a job well done! It sounds like your group embraced the experience fully (even the cupboard moment! 😅), and we’re so pleased you enjoyed both the spooky and the light-hearted parts of the evening. Congratulations on beating all other three groups with the activity quest that was set, too. Great job!
We really appreciate your feedback and look forward to seeing you again on another investigation soon.

Excellent hosts and great evidence!
Me and my sister attended Shrewsbury prison on Saturday, our 3rd time with the company. We did try another company some years ago and we instantly returned to you as it’s SO much better with you guys! We have met more than 7 members of the team members/hosts both at Shrewsbury prison and other venues. I cannot say a bad word about any of them, they are all so lovely, supportive and encouraging. All of you guys are so friendly and welcoming! The venues themselves are equally as amazing, with lots of evidence found. Me and my sister have throughly enjoyed every venue we have been and we thank the company for allowing us the opportunity!

Shrewsbury Prison 14th June 2025
I have very recently done a ghost hunt at Shrewsbury Prison, and it did not disappoint at all, not only in terms of activity (the evidence of an orb and aswell as the K2 going to red at the same time caught by my friend and me, has blown my mind!) but also the team. The team members are all so kind and caring towards everyone. They make you feel comfortable in every situation and explain methods and techniques very well when needed. The event as a whole was very well planned and ran very smoothly, and I absolutely love that they encourage free time, where you get to use the equipment and investigate without the team if you want to. Even if you want to go with a team member, they are more than happy to do so. I will 100% be coming back, not just to Shrewsbury Prison but anywhere with this team.

It’s brilliant to hear that your night at Shrewsbury Prison didn’t disappoint — especially with the orb and K2 activity happening together like that! Moments like those are exactly what we love to hear about, and it’s even better that you felt supported by the team throughout.
We’re really glad you enjoyed the free time element too — it’s important to us that guests can investigate in the way that suits them best, whether that’s on their own or with a team member nearby. We’ll make sure your kind words are passed on to the crew from that night — they’ll be chuffed to know they made such a great impression.
