Exceptional support from Jon C and the EU Service Centre team
I've been an iFi customer for years, owning multiple iFi products and a ZEN Stream, and this experience reminded me exactly why I stay within the iFi ecosystem.
My ZEN Stream suffered a sudden complete hardware failure — dead board, no signs of life. From the first ticket, Jon C in technical support was outstanding: clear, responsive, honest, and genuinely helpful throughout the entire process. He guided me through diagnostics, explained the repair options transparently, waived the service charge as a goodwill gesture, and kept me informed at every step.
The EU Service Centre in Arnhem (Netherlands) was equally impressive — fast turnaround on the PCB replacement, new Volumio 3 firmware with Qobuz Connect installed, and the unit shipped back within days of receiving payment.
The whole process — from opening the ticket to having a repaired, updated unit back in Sofia, Bulgaria — was smooth, professional, and fair. Special mention to Jon C for being a genuinely excellent support agent: patient, knowledgeable, and human.
This is how after-sales support should work. Well done iFi.

The problem is a weakness in communications. Not all of your customers are up to date with the latest electronic storage and transmission of music.

⭐ RECENSIONE TECNICA iFi ZEN Blue 3 (TX mode)

Prezzo di listino: 320 €
PREMESSA
La presentazione ufficiale descrive lo ZEN Blue 3 come “la nuova frontiera dell’audio Bluetooth”,
con supporto aptX Lossless, chip Qualcomm QCC518x, DAC ESS Sabre e un’esperienza
“senza compromessi” (fonte: Hifight).
In effetti, l’hardware è di livello elevato e la qualità sonora è molto buona.
Tuttavia, l’esperienza Bluetooth reale è lontana da quanto promesso e presenta limiti strutturali
che incidono pesantemente sull’uso quotidiano.
1. COMPORTAMENTO BLUETOOTH IMPREVEDIBILE
In modalità TX, se acceso prima delle cuffie, il dispositivo entra rapidamente in pairing e
tenta di collegarsi a QUALSIASI dispositivo Bluetooth nelle vicinanze:
TV, soundbar, smartphone, tablet, ecc.
In un ambiente moderno con molti dispositivi BT, questo comportamento è ingestibile.
Non esiste alcuna logica di priorità o riconnessione intelligente.
2. NESSUNA GESTIONE DEI DISPOSITIVI.
Nonostante il chip Qualcomm supporti funzioni avanzate, lo ZEN Blue 3 non offre:
- whitelist
- blacklist
- limite a un solo dispositivo
- memoria per dispositivo
- pairing manuale affidabile
- app di gestione
- controllo avanzato del comportamento BT
Per un prodotto da 320 €, questa mancanza è significativa.
Il firmware si comporta come quello di un trasmettitore economico.
3. NON RICORDA CODEC E VOLUME
Il dispositivo non memorizza il codec utilizzato per ogni cuffia.
È possibile passare da LDAC a SBC senza motivo apparente.
Inoltre, non conserva il volume impostato: ogni sessione richiede regolazioni manuali.
Questo contrasta con l’immagine di “nuovo standard” descritta nella presentazione commerciale.
4. RITUALI DI ACCENSIONE NECESSARI
Per evitare connessioni indesiderate, è necessario seguire un ordine preciso:
1) accendere prima le cuffie
2) accendere lo ZEN dopo
3) attendere il collegamento
4) regolare il volume
5) spegnere prima lo ZEN
6) poi le cuffie
Se si sbaglia l’ordine, il dispositivo entra in pairing e si collega a dispositivi non desiderati.
Questo non è un comportamento accettabile per un prodotto premium.
5. SOLUZIONI UFFICIALI ASSENTI
Nel thread ufficiale su Reddit, l’unico suggerimento fornito è di usare la modalità DAC
per “disattivare” il Bluetooth quando non serve.
Non è una soluzione, ma un workaround che non risolve il problema alla radice.
6. CONFRONTO CON DISPOSITIVI PIÙ ECONOMICI
Trasmettitori Bluetooth da 30–40 € (es. Creative BT-W5) offrono:
- pairing controllato
- memoria codec
- comportamento prevedibile
- nessun pairing selvaggio
- maggiore stabilità in ambienti BT affollati
Lo ZEN Blue 3 suona meglio, ma come esperienza d’uso è inferiore a prodotti che costano un terzo.
CONCLUSIONE
Lo ZEN Blue 3 ha un hardware eccellente e una qualità audio molto buona,
ma il firmware Bluetooth è immaturo e non all’altezza del prezzo.
La presentazione commerciale parla di “nuovo standard” e “senza compromessi”,
ma nell’uso reale emergono limiti importanti:
pairing incontrollato, assenza di gestione dispositivi, mancanza di memoria codec e
volume, comportamento imprevedibile.
Per 320 €, ci si aspetta un’esperienza Bluetooth moderna, stabile e controllabile.
Così com’è, lo consiglio solo a chi lo usa come DAC o in modalità RX.
Come trasmettitore Bluetooth, non soddisfa le aspettative di un prodotto premium.
Ed in iFi, dal luglio 2024 ad oggi (2026), nessuno sembra preoccuparsene.

I sent them a power supply to repair - they sent me a paypal-link for paying , which I did and now they sent me a reminder that they haven't received no money...
Of course I can prove I HAVE sent the money by paypal because paypal keeps track of the operation, so it's a very poor attemp of costumer deception I'd say. SO I think it's is an untrustworthy enterprise - and now I have doubts about their products, too

I made a simple purchase before which I contacted your support to clarify the exact specification of what I needed. Your support staff were skilled and very helpful and my purchase, which was part of a gift was a success. I posted positively about the support I received. BUT: your system has continued to pester me with endless and pointless questions even though it is clear that the issue is done and dusted. If it were a person rather than a piece of software I would report it for stalking. Long story short: please just Go Away! Any more contact from you which is not initiated by me will result in a zero star score. Or maybe it’s just Trustpilot who I will block right now!

Faulty DAC. I was using it with an iMac. The sound setting created to linkl with thye DAC kept on disappearing. At first I was told to disconnect the DAC the reattach it and worked for a while.

Then I was told to download the firmware and update it. That worked for a while but still kept on dropping out. I changed the iMac for a Mac Mini and for a while it too worked. Then the lights on the DAC turned off and Support once again told me to update the firmware. I did using both the Mac Mini and my Macbook Pro. Now the Firmware will not load at all "Failure of App". All this started during the period of guarantee but now it's outside that. They want me to send it out for repair and will send me a return label (Free). I have waited nearly 10 days for the label so I sent a mail saying that I will not pay for any repair (as the fault was notified during the guarantee period). They have not replied!!! I am very disappointed with the overall performance of the DAC as it is unreliable, and disappointed with Support… they should have realised that the DAC was faulty as I bet this has happened many times with other customers.
