Blackshots - showers have not been working in female changing rooms since November. No reduction in pay. No apology email sent to us for the inconvenience. 4 months later there are new shower heads that dispense almost no water and it’s freezing cold so inusable. Extremely poor experience.

Stupid and horrible company black shots leisure impulse 😡 got refused to join because I don't live in the borough was lied to and mucked about constantly , stupid women doesn't know how to run it properly how ridiculous that your not allowed to join classes because your not a Thurrock resident ✊ deluded people you should be aloud to join any group even if you live out of the area , stupid rules I then told her where to go

Well what can I say. Poor management, unhelpful staff that don’t even answer the phone they always seem to be on their mobile phones. A guy called Gary who I assume is management obviously couldn’t care less about what is going on around him. He himself is unfriendly and obviously knows very little about how a competent leisure centre should be run. Back to Basildon sporting village it is.

Without doubt the worse gym I have been to! No horizontal machines, at all. And if your teenage is under 16 there is virtually no resistance training they can do, literally a few rubbish machines.
The gym itself is run by baphoons and the facilities are very dirty!

Would like to think I am fair and balanced person, so here goes. From a person that typically attends 6 days per week and been a member 7+ year

The car park alone should tell you all you need to know about this once fine organisation. Sky TV could have easily filmed Chernobyl here, there are so many potholes, lack of parking bay markings and almost zero lighting – its like an eclipse when leaving the gym at night.

The gym floor; the air con either doesn’t work (10+ months) or simply gushes water, or doesn’t get turned on. In the summer months its unbearable to exercise and like a greenhouse. This impacts the machines as if you sweat some simply cease to work. There is no audit actually performed on the machines, some connect to the Technogym app, other times there is no TV or the internet is blamed. Added to this, they allow people to overstay their welcome six plus hours, which adds to the depreciation of machine quality.

Inductions here are comical, never shown or told to clean the machines, simply plug you key in, walk for 3 mins move on. There are simply no standards here whatsoever, as long as you pay you can do as you like.

When junior gym is going on they should have 2 members of staff on at all times

General Etiquette: Identifying as male, the Men’s changing room is an absolute joke on a number of fronts. No one explains to men with children use the bays provided, giving them and adults privacy. As parents don’t police their children you often get much interference or wandering. This weekend men changing their infants on the area’s people sit!

The showers; if a female is showering next door this impacts the water pressure in the mens changing room. Again staff ‘acknowledge’ a problem if women are showering it impacts the men’s waterflow and pressure.

Until recently we have had a single working toilet, the other contained a Jurassic park esq. mountain of poo, Im told by gym floor staff the state of the disabled is a “disgrace”.

Finally you find men taking selfies in the changing room, something I find unacceptable! The newly fitted toilet seat must have been installed by Stevie Wonder – its beyond poor

Etiquette continued: if you found me standing gormlessly round the swimming pool observing others with no purpose I’d be labelled a certain type. Here you find a congregation people standing right at the gym door entrance on their phones with multiple children making it hard to get in and out. I also think the gym floor glass around the doors should be frosted to provide some respect and dignity.

The community area outside acts as playground, its policing is a bit of string, children mostly use this as a climbing frame or worse a place to urinate, yet another non-policed area. The driving range has been allowed to go to ruin. They recently had an independent body in conducting a survey the two gentleman will have witnessed the flowers being picked and stones being thrown at the windows.

The main standouts for anyone joining or summary is a lack of working air con, running hot water, and etiquette.

Any time you raise a simple issue it’s a blame of suppliers or Thurrock Council. The lack of ownership or dedication to get things done is poor. Pre and initially post covid I use to recommend this place to anyone that would listen, now the worst decision I made in 2024 was renewing here, I actively ask for a refund which they are unwilling to provide. However I was ‘compensated’ with a free months membership when renewing due to the issues raised – I see this as no benefit as the user experience is so poor.

For transparency you will see I raised the air con issue at the point of renewal. I once again asked for a refund. The straw that broke the camels back was a bucket full of water being placed on the floor 15th of May full of water from the STILL BROKEN Air Con. I wasn’t great at science at school but am confident water and electric machinery are not a good mix

I visited leisure centre few times to spoke about membership options, but every time they ask me to come for another day because not competent person on the site, when I finally spoke with supervisor was not helpful at all, not welcomed, terrible communication.

Over the years Iv watched impulse leisure run blackshots leisure centre into the ground. It’s absolutely disgusting there. It’s always extremely dirty. It’s poorly managed and Staff do not conduct regular area checks and cleans. The lockers have been broken for soooo long. Money needs spending in the changing village to completely refurbish and modernise it.
It could be such a lovely centre with so much more potential if it was to be run by a proper well established leisure company.
I hope one day when impulses lease is up the council can get another company in to do a better job and spend some money on this centre.

Terrible gym , by far the worst I've used! Never get on anything you need so trying to have a routine is impossible unless you like going at either 6am or 9pm ISH! Missed one payment due to Xmas and I tried to call but no one ever answers a phone (never) and then a week later they send Bailiff letters I kid you not within a week , oh and there's extra charges for these letters. They don't care that you have tried to call etc. paying the extra charge and I'm paying to cancel my contract and btw one miss payment in over a year due to Xmas cmon lol avoid this place like the plague! Bannatine is much much better and basically same price lol 🤣

Did not book swimming lessons for your young children here (blackshots) They have zero health and safety measures in place. No one paying attention to four year olds in the pool. So incredibly dangerous. I saw two incidents of very young children getting into the water without armbands or supervision when the water was far too deep for them and I only went two times. Cancelling any further lessons with them.

Disappointing Service and Communication Issues**
I joined with my family with high hopes, but my experience has been quite disappointing. One major issue I've encountered is their lack of responsiveness. I have tried multiple times to call the gym for information and support, but my calls have gone unanswered every single time.
It's incredibly frustrating to feel ignored when seeking help or clarification. Customer service is crucial in any business, and the fact that no one answers the phone is a serious red flag.
I hope they improve their communication because, as of now, I cannot recommend this gym based on my experiences.

The changing rooms are filthy broken lockers floors are disgusting why is no money being spent on this swimming pool I took some photos people I know cannot believe state of place

Blackshots, Grays. Staff from gym, especially young girl rudeness is just unbelievable!!! especially with teenagers, they did sports for 2 months and no one paid attention, and then they started to explain new rules, you can't use any weights, after a month they said that you can't use anything except cardio equipment. They're clearly did not say anything when signing the contract, and most importantly They're denies everything, be careful when signing contracts

Poor management and bad organised swimming classes.They accept children to register for swimming but then they don’t have staff and cancel classes very often. In 2 months my child could get swimming lessons just twice, and 4 classes were cancelled. Very disappointing

It is impossible to talk to somebody, they do not pick up phone when they know it is you calling, they charge us for lessons that we did not have , they say they will call you back and they not!

I went for a morning swim was good the water was perfect and wasn't too busy but they really need to sort out the lockers as very I’ve been swimming with a float. The first time thought they might say I couldn’t use the float but I was able to do 8 laps. The second time I did about 22. This is the first time I’ve been swimming as exercise for a long time and I’m in serious need of exercise! If I swam without the float I would have been done after 2 laps and would get cramp and wanted to swim leisurely will building stamina. it doesn’t help having Asthma either. You would never of thought I had all my swimming badges and use to swim for my school. I went last Monday. I was really looking forward to a swim as well. Half way into my first lap the lifeguard said I couldn’t use the float in this pool. I had to use the other section. None of the other lifeguards had an issue with me swimming with a float. She said I don’t know whether you can swim”. She could have just asked “Can you swim?”. She eventually asked but didn’t believe me and wanted me to prove to her I could swim without the float. I decided to leave. I asked at reception if it was okay to use a float and explained my purpose of using it. The person there said I could. Although this experience has put me of going back!

impulse Blackshots in Grays is The filthiest gym I have ever used. Despite several complaints over the years, no action taken. Infact it's getting worse.
The changing rooms, the steam and sauna. The entire place is a breeding ground for germs.
The entry gate has been out of action for over a year, giving free access to teenagers and some unscrupulous people.

Never answer the phone for general enquiries, to change a booking etc. However, the extensions to pay for swimming lessons or join the gym always answers.
Worst customer service ever.
Can book online and pay there and then but can’t adjust booking. It’s just terrible. Paying for swimming before you even get there

£6.00 to go for a public swim for an hour which is fine & also Blackshots has a good size pool. But the changing area & lockers in the wet side are disgusting, most of lockers broke or don’t have straps. Doesn’t look like these are looked after at all, and have been the same for years! Don’t take any valuables with you

Wouldn’t bother going there. Can’t even get an over the phone booking right! Turn up for them to tell you that you haven’t booked even though you have proof on your online banking. Then finally let us in after realising they booked the wrong time but late! So miss the first 15 minutes of a 1 hour swim. Waste of time! That place as gone downhill and it’s not like it’s exactly cheap to visit either!!!

Corringham pool has been shut for a few months... supposedly a refurb, I thought great, about time the pool will be properly deep cleaned along with all changing areas. I was disgusted tonight on my first visit back the amount of grime on the pool walls! Filthy. Changing room no better and floor flooded! People being allowed to walk in with outdoor shoes on! Disgusting.
