Expensive

Got the InstaVolt app as there were chargers next to the hotel is was staying in for a training course. Didn’t check the rates and was a bit shocked at the 86p per KW rate. I paid a lot for the convenience

I am impressed with the Winchester…

I am impressed with the Winchester InstaVolt off the A34 you get free WiFi! Which helped bitumen when I needed to charge as my network didn’t have signal until I connected to the WiFi absolutely brilliant

I’ve been using InstaVolt regularly to charge my car — especially during peak hours — and I have to say the experience is always reliable and smooth. The chargers are fast, easy to use, and always working properly. The South Harrow site near McDonald’s is especially convenient, with great lighting and a safe location.

Total rubbish 4 of these not working…

Total rubbish 4 of these not working saturaday or sunday rang the number promised a free recharge once up and running but that has not been stuck to
Also noticed when half way through charging it slows down costing you more money to charge

Always a good experience !

Always a good experience, easy to use, love the rapid charge points. The app makes it all very quick and simple. It literally is plug and go. Very straightforward and always close to somewhere I can grab a coffee. Always my go to !

I haven’t used the machine before…

I haven’t used the machine before download the app followed it then nothing but charged me £15 twice then another £37 when I got it going so an expensive experience

I’m really sorry to hear about your experience, and I completely understand how frustrating that must have been, especially on your first visit. The £15 amounts you mentioned are pre-authorisation fees, which are temporarily held by your bank each time you tap your card to start a charge. These aren’t additional charges and will automatically be released within 5–10 working days, depending on your bank.

The £37 would be for the actual cost of the electricity you used during your successful charging session.

This is an expensive way to charge unless you can use the app. Despite always trying, the app fails leaving me no option but to use a debit card and pay full price. Of course I don’t receive any rewards either! Poor design.

Topped up my car just to get me home…

Topped up my car just to get me home which cost £6 but charged £45 pending until they can sort out the payment. Said it could take up to two weeks.
Shocking and lazy considering it's 2025

Thank you for providing your feedback on our services, please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused. 

When you initiate a charge via a card, a pre-authorisation fee of £15.00 or £45.00 (depending on the charger model) will be reserved on your card. This will be taken each time you tap your card to try to start a charge and is intended to validate the payment card and ensure that sufficient funds exist to complete a transaction. Depending on who you bank with you may see these as pending transactions or they will appear to have been taken from your account. 

If the charge was successful, the pre-authorisation amount will be cancelled and replaced with the actual amount you were charged for the electricity received. If your charge was unsuccessful, the amount will be returned automatically. All pre-authorisation amounts are released automatically by InstaVolt; depending on who you bank with, it may take 5-10 working days (or sooner) to reflect this.

However, if you use our chargers regularly and would like to work around the pre-authorisation fees, you could download our app and use it to start a charging session. As your payment card is already authenticated on the app, no pre-authorisation fees get taken when you charge via this method.

17kw from a50kw charger is not good enough

I have tried using the Instavolt charging system twice now . The first time despite loading £20 onto the app i could not get the app to communicate with the charge point so had to use my credit card to charge the car which cost me 89p per kw at 6am also the charging from 10% would not go above 30kw. This morning again at 6.10 am at Bannatynes in Eastbourne on charger number 1 i was able to use the app and my current charge was at 52% so i wanted to charge it to 80% and it would not charge above 17kw so it took me around 40 mins for a 10kw charge which in my opinion is not good enough for whatever reason . My car has done less than 6k miles and is 18 months old so no battery age issue.
