Opened doors for freelance work!
Having just retired from my 30+ year career, I was looking for an opportunity to pick up a skill that would open doors for me to do remote, freelance work. Knowadays program was exactly what I was looking for! Knowadays programs were thorough, and I was drawn to the promise of employment if I achieved high marks. I took the proofreading and editing classes and I am now working with Proofed! I leaned so much and refer back to the programs for assistance in my work. I should have taken these classes before I wrote my dissertation!

Had a bad experience
Had a bad experience. Paid the money, believed the testimonials. Despite my First class BA degree, and my PGCE, and my Masters which I got a distinction in, I scored next-to-nothing in the final test. That's not to say the British education system is right and Knowadays is wrong, I genuinely must be dumb, but my point is if you have less educational experience and you're about to send them your money, there's a very good chance you aren't going to pass. I would like to know what percentage fail. Great business idea though, make a hard exam and charge people to take it then keep their money when they fail. They should at least make a 10 question prelim to see if you might be eligible like other providers.

I’m sorry to hear you feel you had a bad experience with Becoming A Proofreader. It would be good to know a bit more about why you feel this way about the course since you only mention the final assignment here. Did you have any issues or difficulties with the module content or exercises?
In terms of the final assignment, you will have received detailed feedback and the offer of a one-on-one call with a tutor after your test attempt (or after each attempt if you took more than one). If you scheduled a feedback call, the tutor will have answered your questions, offered advice, and followed up by sending you links to resources and practice papers to help you prepare for another attempt. If you feel like this area was lacking and there could have been more support, please let us know so we can improve in the future.
Our learners come from a wide range of educational backgrounds, and higher education is not a prerequisite for doing well in the course nor for being a good proofreader. Degrees and certificates can widen your knowledge of different topics, but academic proofreading is an entirely new world for most people, and our course is designed to give you everything you need to know to enter this career. It’s true that our final assignments are challenging, and not everyone passes with distinction. But that is true of every exam, course, or programme of study, no matter the subject.
You mention the need for a ‘10 question prelim’, but it’s not quite clear what you mean. Our FAQ section provides a lot of information about the course and proofreading in general, and prospective learners are encouraged to get in touch with us if they’d like to find out more. The free trial of Becoming A Proofreader opens with a sample paragraph in which you try to spot all the mistakes and then presents extracts from the course so you can see what the real thing looks like. It is up to each individual to decide whether they are able to commit to the full course. If you feel that other providers offer a better service, please let us know who they are so we can compare and perhaps improve our own offering.
I can completely understand your frustration if you didn’t reach the grade you expected or wanted in the final assignment, but it’s surprising and saddening that you feel you had such a negative experience with the course overall. If you would like to talk to us further, we would really appreciate your feedback and the chance to address your concerns. We want all learners to feel like they have gained something valuable from their experience, regardless of their score in the final assignment, and we work hard to achieve this.

Great Course
The course was incredibly thorough. A lot of practice documents were available, which I liked a lot. If I was stuck or had questions, I was able to email their tutors. Every email response I received was detailed and helpful. It was also nice to be able to start with Proofed after completing the course. The one thing I believe the course is lacking is a dedicated module on ESL proofreading. This is the one area I feel quite underprepared for. (Although for documents that are in native English, I feel quite prepared.) On the Proofed site and other proofreading sites quite a few documents are ESL, which can be difficult to work with. So even now I feel as if I'm struggling quite a bit. If Knowadays decided to create an additional course for ESL proofreading and editing, I would purchase it. Overall a great proofreading course, I recommend it!

Great course, long wait time for results.
I took a course through Knowadays and it was really good. Very in-depth and lots of resources. I learned everything I needed to! However, upon completing my exam, it took them over a month to get back to me with my results because they had misplaced them, and when I finally reached out, it took them many days to respond. This felt a little unprofessional.

Just do it.....
As a retiree I was looking for a meaningful activity to fill my day and thought to give proofreading a try. I came across the "Becoming a Proofreader" course by Knowadays and decided to give it a shot. My initial concerns about spending several hundred dollars on an online course that I did not know anything about were quickly eliminated. The excellent course material is well organized and full of very useful information. Each of the 15 modules contains tests to check what you have just learned. You also have free access to very friendly and knowledgeable tutors, who are invested in your success. The final exam is challenging, but if you pass it with an 80% or better score you will be offered a freelancing job at Proofed, a large proofreading company. This is a huge incentive and one of the reasons why I chose this course. I highly recommend it to anybody who wants to become a proofreader. In fact, one of my friends followed my advice and is taking it right now!

Great support and really does get you guaranteed work
The course is very well designed and there is a lot of information covered in it that does prepare you very well for becoming a proofreader. There is fantastic online support too, including feedback video calls and I personally found the tutors to be very responsive. It really does feel like you're getting a good educational expereince.
I did this course specifically with the purpose of starting to work with Proofed and I was interested in the idea that if you got over a certain mark in your assignement you could sign up as a freelancer.
When I did get to the end of the course and got the mark I needed I was, indeed, signed up with Proofed pretty fast and had access to their work queue. The process with Proofed is an extension of the course - you are able to start working with smaller documents and get some (much needed) practical experience and you continue to get detailed feedback on your work, which allows you to progress and get better. Personally I feel like the whole system, starting with the course, through to onboarding you at Proofed and supporting you to develop there is well designed and has helped me grow.
If you're wondering how long it takes and what the money is like - initially it is tricky to make a decent amount so it's not like you will suddenly have an income, but as time goes on and you are allowed to do longer documents it becomes easier to earn more substantial money. And there is never any shortage of work if you have the time to do it!
I purchased the Knowadays course at the end of May, I finished it and passed my assignment at the end of July, I was onboarded to Proofed in the beginning of August and by mid-September I was on a team that does more regular work with longer deadlines.
So I would definitely say that the course does what it says on the tin, it really does get you to guaranteed work, if that's what you want to do, and it offers great support.

Well-made course and good job opportunity
The proofreading course is detailed, easy to follow, and covers a wide range of topics across the industry. The quizzes are quick and helpful and they also offer a review session and a bunch of resources for the final exam. And if you pass you get a job! Thorough Learning Experience, Bad "Guaranteed Work" Experience
The course was great, except for one thing: it didn't teach anything about freelancing. I regret not signing up for the competition's offer instead of falling for the guarantee. The "job" involves slaving away trying to figure out badly translated Chinese and AI-written texts. It takes several times longer to complete this kind of work than the company claims, so this is an absolute waste of time if you really need a job. Now I have to take a course on freelancing to get actual work.

I’ve been studying with them since…
I’ve been studying with them since March and ever since I submitted my final assignment have heard nothing back from them despite numerous emails…. Very disappointing /Update/ My final papers were found and contact was made after I left this review. A variety of excuses and explanations were provided. I may have been unlucky in the timing (system change) however the assignment feedback and marks were provided back to me in the body of an email rather than on the final version of my work. Proofreading is done directly in or on a document so why wouldn’t assignment corrections be done the same way? There are also problems with their internal communications as I was asked to resubmit only to find out someone else already had my work. The course content is excellent however the delivery method needs a little more work.
