Happy to talk to Levelise

Really pleased with the help I got from the electrician, he did the work he had come to do but also found a faulty component that had burnt out. Levelise through Kieran put me in contact with project Solar who have now made appointment for Friday to replace component.

I came to Levelise via Social Energy…

I came to Levelise via Social Energy which was the app that came with my Project Solar installation. The Social Energy app used to provide useful real time data on Energy production and its use - consumption, export, battery etc.
Unfortunately the replacement Levelise app is big on style but short on practicality. You get plenty of pretty bar charts but no real data. I used to check the Social Energy app regularly during the day to see how we were doing and if we had surplus solar generation could chose whether to use it - for example by turning on the immersion heater - or let it go to the battery or to export. Now all you get is a total generation figure for the day. I used to keep records of how much energy I had generated week by week. I have given up because the Levelise app only shows that info in a small bar chart where you struggle to work out what the total is. I have written to them several times but to no avail. Very disappointing.

Reconnecting battery to internet.

I was very pleased to have a dedicated contact, Rhyan, and efficient responses and guidance. Following installation of full fibre with a new internet provider and new router, our battery lost connection with the internet. Whilst being non-techie, we were patiently guided to a new configuration of our hardware.

The service provide was good

The service provide was good. They patiently answered my questions and after I had sent the photographs they showed by pointers as to what I should do. Good service. The only drawback is that it done by email and it takes time.

We had our battery and solar system…

We had our battery and solar system disconnected for 4 months due to building work. When reconnecting back, the battery wasn't charging. Sarah at Levelise responded promptly via email providing a solution which helped fix the issue. I went back with a further query to which Sarah responded providing possible reasons and one of them was the cause of the problem. Thanks for the prompt help and guidance to get my system up and running again.

Looking to Leave Levelise.

Looking to Leave Levelise.
When The Social Energy hardware was installed as part of my Solar panels and battery, it worked well (the app also gave me realtime stats on generation, usage, export etc).
However since Levelise have taken over, the App leaves a lot to be desired. I have two main gripes:
1. The app does not show any realtime data of solar generation, electricity usage, grid usage / export, etc. This, to me, renders the app useless as I cannot determine what electricity I am using at any one point in time. Really frustrating. I understand that you can see a review of the day's generation, export etc, but that is not realtime.
2. The company effectively takes over the charging / discharging of my battery in the winter months, in order to earn money for both me and Levelise via energy trading and grid balancing. However, the app has no idea whatsoever of my electricity Tariff so does not know the optimal times to to use my electricity to power my house etc. I am on a variable tariff so I regularly get in the position where the battery is full and not being used to power my home when the electricity is expensive. From my other app (SolaX) I can see expensive electricity being consumed by my house directly from the grid, whilst the battery remains full. This is infuriating as the money I normally receive in credits from this company (circa £7-10 / month) is totally negated by the house using expensive electricity instead of from the battery.

I am actively looking for a way to unsubscribe from the Levelise service and remove their hardware from my system. Octopus (my energy supplier) are looking to introduce a comparative service (but actually taking my tariff into account) so I will be looking to use this instead.

Overall, energy trading / grid balancing is a great idea; however the approach taken by this company lets the whole concept down. I constantly hear that they are looking to improve their service, will add additional features and functionality etc; but to date I have seen nothing change (and my energy bills needlessly increasing).

If you are looking to subscribe to this service, I strongly suggest you do your research and fully understand the limitations placed on your system before you decide.
This service is effectively costing me money so I won't be with them for much longer.

Edit: In response to Levelise reply.
You have misunderstood my comment about the app. Yes, I can refresh the view to see the cumulative totals for the day etc. But that's not what I am complaining about. The app does not show any realtime data regarding realtime energy use, generation, feed-in etc. i.e. if I put the kettle on, the app should show the electricity being used at the time (from the battery, drawn from the grid etc). But it only shows cumulative figures for the day. The previous (Social Energy) app provided this, so the functionality of the app has diminished since you took over.
Secondly, happy to be included in a test batch to see if you can be more in line with my variable tariff, but there are currently some serious limitations placed on my system preventing me from using my battery at peak cost times. This is costing me money every day.
I have sent you details separately via email, so hopefully they help. But please rest assured that if this functionality cannot be resolved then I will be requesting removal from your service as it is costing me money to be part of your energy trading / grid balancing service.

Am really sorry to hear your current thoughts and your experience thus far. Thanks for sending us your details, I will send you a separate message addressing your points directly. As I am hoping there are some things we can do to resolve your concerns.

Your first issue the App: You are able to refresh the app by dragging the screen down, if any of the figures go up, it provides insight into how much is being generated, exported, consumed and imported from the grid. We are still working on improving the app but had and have a significant of amount of leg work, to get the app to the point where it meets all the regulatory requirements it needs to, but we do understand that some of the features can be improved on and this is within our development plan.

Second issue: We would like you to provide us with your current and historic tariff information, as we can review if there has indeed been any detriment to you. We have also been working on tariff optimisation as a feature and this is currently in test. Your system can be incorporated in the customer test batch – meaning your system will consider the best times to charge/discharge – for best value. This is something we can arrange for you by the 1st of Feb – as long as we have your tariff information by this point.

I truly hope that with this in mind you can reconsider your thoughts on leaving Levelise. As mentioned I will message you directly now.

Absolutely useless

Absolutely useless
Like other customers, prior to the change to Levelise, I could see production, consumption and storage. The new app gives me nothing, the solution I have been given is for ME to install an ethernet cable from upstairs down to the router. It is not financially viable, Levelise deny that their operating system has had any impact on the inability to see the data.
Find another supplier that can optimise your battery, this lot can't manage it.

I have added the information requested. There is no real time information on your app, “Todays data” which you often quote in your replies to other negative reviewers lacks the same level of information as Social Energy did. Daily/Monthly/Yearly stats aren’t clear or simple to read and the lack of daily/weekly between savings and energy stats are also a disappointment.

Very disappointed with the level of information provided. Bring back Social Energy!!!

Thanks for sending us your information.

“Todays Data” when refreshed, is an up to date figure of what has been generated, used, exported, and imported – which means you can utilise this information to ascertain your generation through out the day, granted without the graphic and automatic refresh it doesn’t feel as slick, but we are reviewing and working on how better to provide the information requested by our customers.

On the Day/Month/Year within the savings section, once you select a period you would like to view, it shows exactly what has been earned and saved in that period – when you say it isn’t simple or clear – happy to take any feedback on how we can improve this section for you and our other customers. In the savings section you can select one day or multiple which means you can select a week’s period to view. The energy section on the week view shows you a daily view of the volumes for the last week, we will be adding volumes into this graph as we recognise the graph is not currently clear enough.

The app is consistently being worked on and we certainly welcome any feedback, you can contact us on support@levelise.com to highlight any things you think are worth changing and this will be considered.

Kieran was very very helpful. We had a new router fitted so the system wasn't reporting as the TP's were disconnected. He very quickly showed me how to reconnect them an we are up and running again.

Backward step fro. SE to Levelise.

Since they took over from SE there is no way now of looking to see how much electrity is being generated at that particular moment, so you don't know when to turn appliances on.
SE app used to show live how much electricity was being produced, all Levelise system tells you is history, useless information.

You can use the battery image, which tells you how much battery storage is available, as well as the section called "Today's data", to ascertain your current generation or export. Every time you swipe the page down, the data will update. If you're exporting any excess energy the export volume will increase, if you're generating energy, your generation will increase and so on. Please note that significant change will occur when the solar generation is at its highest, so if you look first thing in the morning, when generation and usage might be below 100 watts, the numbers might not move. The previous app considered the volumes in the last minute, so please give it a minute before you update the numbers, to allow a volume of generation/consumption/export/import to occur.

I have also had issues contacting the company. There is no phone number and do not respond within 3 working days. It is really not good enough.

After the reply below I still have not heard from you - please reply to my email asap.

I have changed this review from 1-4 star because writing it did prompt a comprehensive response.

However it should have never got to that stage, and if email contact for the company was reliable, for a phone number was a public, they would appear more trustworthy. But thank you to Rox in particular for a very efficient response in the end.

Stop messing with something that…

Stop messing with something that worked. All I need to know is how much generation there is how much battery storage is available for use and how much export. Had this system installed due to having a hot tub installed so I need to know when and where I can use my generated power.

I think we can resolve some of your issues and hopefully give you some more context on why our app changed. We had to update our app, not only due to rebranding, but also because the old app no longer met the current Google and Appstore requirements. This was not something we were able to correct due to how the app was previously built.

In the meantime, you can use the battery image, which tells you how much battery storage is available, as well as the section called "Today's data", to ascertain your current generation or export. Every time you swipe the page down, the data will update. So if you're exporting any excess energy the export volume will increase, if you're generating energy, your generation will increase. Please note that significant change will occur when the solar generation is at its highest, so if you take a look first thing in the morning, when generation and usage might be below 100 watts, the numbers might not move.

Levelise has some ground to make up to gain credibility and confidence in its customers eyes. However recently, my experience with Kieren Considine ofLevelise, was excellent. At last someone trying to help and and getting back to me with a positive response.

The algorithm deployed does not take in to account any cheaper hours on your electricity tariff, so utilising this can increase bills rather than decrease them. When I contacted the company to ask why my payments were so low they told me that my battery was not connected to their servers properly (but they had not contacted me to let me know) despite the battery clearly charging from the grid regularly.

Finally the company have now removed the live data from their app adding a further layer of obscurity to their activity and prevent optimal use of the generated solar energy.

Hi There,

Thank you for your feedback. Hopefully we can clarify a few points for you. The credits are usually low around summertime – this is because the battery is being utilised by your solar system due to sufficient generation. The credits than increase over the winter when your battery is not being utilised as much and is therefore sitting dormant or using a small amount of energy to keep warm and charged. With regards to faults – as internet issues can regularly occur, we only send communications if its been disconnected for some time, but have now introduced the status bar in the app, if customers want to investigate sooner.

A more automated approach to tariff optimisation is being launched in the coming months to ensure that tariffs (not part of the standard rates) are considered and therefore reducing the risk of additional costs through time of use tariffs. Where a customer does have a tariff that is not flat across the day, they can notify us to consider this in the battery optimisation – I am sorry this was not done for you.

Regarding the app, it is our first version, and the app had to be updated not only due to rebranding but also since the old app did not meet the google play and app store requirements. With regards to live monitoring, you can still use the section called "Today's data", to ascertain your current household load (Consumed), what you are generating (Generation), What you have imported from your supplier (Imported) and what you have sent back to the gird (Exported). Every time you swipe the page down, the data will update. So, if you're exporting any excess energy the export volume will increase, if you're generating energy, your generation will increase and so on. Please note that significant change will only occur when, for example, the solar generation is at its highest, so if you look first thing in the morning, when generation and usage might be below 100 watts, the numbers might not move.

Once again, we are sorry you are not getting everything you need from our current app, this is something we are working on, but we do hope that the above can help in some way.
