We are having same problem as the previous review. We signed up to Social Energy just as they ceased trading. We then signed up to Eon Next who provide our Electric since having our Solar panels. We have not received a penny from Social Energy in a year since we have had solar panels but they seem to have control of our battery. They are taking energy from our solar panels in the day then topping our battery from the grid so obviously costing us. We cannot get any contact with anyone from this company. They ignore emails. Can anyone help? How do we disconnect Social energy? I’m a pensioner and being robbed by this company.
Update 11/10/22 - to be fair Social Energy (Sarah) responded promptly yesterday and has terminated our contract as requested - Thank you Sarah

Social energy are failing to return my emails or return control of my battery to me.
I have been trying to get hold of Social Energy all week, (by email as they do not seem to have a telephone No) but I am unable to get any response.
At the time of this review, they have not responded to 6 emails across 4 days, 2 of those emails directly asking them to stop using my system for their AI Grid balancing program and to revert my system to standard self use.
I have asked for some commercial information as to how they propose to cover the costs of import (for this week alone = the whole of the last 8 months KWh), but nothing
Until they can prove to me that what they are doing is commercially viable, I have given them written notice revoking my authorisation for them to use my system, but no-one is getting back to me
So far this week, their changes to my system on 1st October has cost me nearly £20 and I have no controls as to when I should be using my own freely generated power as it seems I am constantly pulling power from the grid, no matter what time of day or night.

Social energy are failing to return control of my battery after I terminated their Grid Balancing service. With the price of electricity as hight as it is now - grid balancing actually costs me a lot more than I get back (it's working out at over £1 a day if you factor in the amount of lost battery capacity). I requested that they cancel the grid balancing contract which they agreed to do on Monday - advising it would take 24 hours max to be actioned. It's now Thursday and they still haven't done it. I queried it and was told by "Kieran" to just 'be patient'.
Sorry - but a £30 a month minimum drain on my financing isn't something that a company can just ignore. I've had problem after problem with grid balancing and therefore can't recommend it at all. As of right now I've asked for my issue to be escalated (which Kieran didn't do) and now demanded it be treated as a complaint. I will continue to update this review until it is resolved so others can benefit from my terrible experience so far

I had questions regarding the battery and how the payments worked and whether the change in electricity prices would impact. Kieran Considine was excellent in how he dealt with my endless questions. He took the time to set out answers clearly. And it was obvious these were not copy and paste responses.

We have been a customer of social engery since 2019, at first we were very happy with the set up....
However, with electric prices rising one had to question the battery trading economics and trading algorithms.
To buy = 30p kwh (1 unit)
To Sell = 2 Kwh (1 unit)
With such disparity between the buy and sell cost, it is impossible to make any gains by trading. Actually, its costing the customer significant sums of money. Everytime your battery discharges to the grid you have to buy it back at 15 times higher than the selling price.
We often noticed our battery charging from the grid or dumping all our stored engery at peak times when we needed it the most. The battery rarely discharged to the minium level of 10% and when it did it started charging off the grid rather than waiting for daylight.
I emailed Social engery accompanied by sending screen shots. Unfortunately no response.
So, as an experiment I asked social engery to cancel our grid trading. The results speak for themselves.
Our average grid consumption during grid trading was between 6 - 8kwh daily = £1.80 - £2.40.
Now our average daily grid consumption is between 1 - 2 kwh = £0.30 - £0.60.
By cancelling the trading contract we estimate that we are saving on average between £40-£50 per month in electric charges. (All systems will br different)
The trading credits we recieved from social engery averaged out at £10 per month. This we obviously don't get paid anymore, but we save substantially on the electricity.

Whilst the government price cap of buying electricity off self producing customers remains pathetically low, your business model of trading electricity is non-exsistent.
Selling electricity at 2p and buying it back at 30p is madness!
With engery costs rising, why hasn't the feed in tariff risen!? Let me guess, corporate greed!?
@social engery, you need to start lobbying at the government and ofgem to raise the price cap on SEG tarrifs inorder to make trading electricity profitable again, like it used to be before the substantial increases in engery price cap.

@social engery - your comments are wrong.
Since we cancelled grid services our electricity bills have been reduced by 70%, saving on average £40 per month.
The credits you give us don't equal this. So we are better off financially to use our battery for our own consumption.

Be very careful before signing up to energy trading with these guys. Their quoted benefits to you ignore the fact that YOU HAVE TO PAY for the electricity that they push to your battery for the grid balancing service. The credits you receive will at best only cover that cost. My advise is to Keep your battery for your own consumption. There is a lot of talk about how their AI is always working to your benefit, but there is no transparency as to how this is the case. Since leaving the service, I have drawn virtually nothing from the grid; beforehand I was taking around 85KwH which I had to pay for and the credits did not cover that.

I contacted Solar Energy to help with why my system was showing disconnected on the app. Kieran was really patient and helped to reconnect me. He also advised me where I could replace a missing lead, which was the key to why I was having difficulties.

I have been with Social Energy since 2019 and have always had excellent service from them. After their Supply company went bust I have always continued to get my battery credits until this month. I have mailed them but do not get any reply. I am hoping this is just a glitch and nothing more serious.
This was posted as unusually I didn't get a reply to my email messages within a few days . Since posting business as usual has been established.

Yet again negative response from social energy, i have sent e mails requesting why i am no being paid for grid services, so far i have had 1 response telling me to check their help web site see if i can find anything there. So far i have not been paid since June but social energy do not seem interested probably as long as they are being paid

Recently had some issues with meter connection between Solax battery system and Meter 1( poor installation done by Project Better Energy ). Reported to the support all resolved with help from SocialEnergy ( Kieran ).
Kieran provided me with great step by step instruction and video to resolve the issue.

Have had issues for several months,customer support is poor. Currently the system is not viewable on the app, I just get emails saying to pair the tplink as the device has no Internet. Despite sending pictures and connectivity proof of the TP. The hub has failed and required replacement once, highly likely its happened again. Since stopping Energy supply the service and support has gone downhill.

When I contacted Social Energy I did not hold much hope of a reply. However within a day I received a response. I could not access the new app but Stevie-Marie with the help of the Tech Dept sorted the problem within a couple of weeks. The problem was dealt with efficiently and in a friendly manner. Thank you. Unfortunately my other problem which is the lack of an MCS certificate cannot be dealt with by Social Energy. I would have thought that they should have checked whether this was in place before accepting us as customers. Now both the installers and SE are no longer trading so we are stuck without a certificate.

What ever you do, don't buy a solar system through this company thay are really bad, we have had such a bad experience with them.
After agreeing and paying a $8,500. 8 months ago and and taking delivery of the hardware two months ago after a lot of phone calls to have it sit it here for 2 months waiting for installation to find out thay are no longer going to install it. Thay have given our money back with no compensation for the last 8 months our 8,500 dollars have been sitting with them.
not to mention the stress thay have caused us!
