Hard to find fault.

Honestly can't say a bad word about LNER. I know some people hate them, but I've used them for over six years and not had a bad experience. Clean, comfortable, mostly on time.

Excellent trip

Excellent trip, clean train, very quick. Only downside was the ticket checker from Edinburgh who announced we should all have our tickets downloaded for her convenience. To make her job easier. When I fumbled to find my senior railcard on a different app from my ticket, a very loud sarcastic comment was made to the carriage along the lines of " you obviously didn't hear my announcement" How rude and embarrassing as a Scot to encounter such bad customer service. Training required, not all customers can hear clearly, have the dexterity in their hands to deal quickly with mobile phones or have the knowledge. Let alone have English as a first language.
All staff from Newcastle onwards were polite and helpful.

Due to a cancelled train

Due to a cancelled train, I had to travel on a different service. While there appeared to be enough seating in first class, catering ran out before reaching all passengers, including myself and my companion. Staff seemed rushed and were not particularly helpful. With around 30 minutes of the journey remaining, no further refreshments were offered, with staff stating we were close to the final stop. Overall, this was a poor experience and not what I would expect when paying for first-class travel.

I'm sorry to hear your service was cancelled and you've had to take another service. Our trains are stocked with how many customers are booked on along with an added percentage but during unforeseen disruption, a situation like yours can happened. I'm sorry this gave you a poor experience then what we usually offer.

Wonderful team!

I'm a regular traveller on LNER for business. I'm almost always delighted with the friendly and professional staff. I usually travel First Class to get the meal and teas, and I love it! Today, I travelled between Edinburgh and Newcastle but I often do Peterborough or London. I've had on-time trains the last dozen or so times, so I'm delighted overall. Thank you!

Bought return ticket from Montrose to Pitlochry and got a reserved seat
Unfortunately the return became an open one and cannot find out how to book seat on a specific day@

Absolute rubbish excuses not to refund a refundable ticket for a future date.

Absolute rubbish policies and excuses for not issuing a refund of an expensive ticket.
I mistakenly booked a ticket for the 28th when, in fact, I was travelling on the 21st. On the train, the guard scanned my ticket, the scanner beeped and rejected it, and I had to buy another ticket at a cost of £191.10 !! My request for a refund on the 28th ticket (cost £67.55) was rejected because the ticket had already been scanned! It's an absolute joke. The two-hour journey cost me £258.65. I am going to London again next week and shall be driving, rather than using the train (over £300 return quoted for 2 people return). The public transport system in this country is a joke.

Thank you for the feedback, Roger. We are in the process of replacing all of our Azuma seat bases with more padding, and we hope you get a chance to see this improvement. Our new Serenza trains are being introduced in the coming years, and these will feature enhanced seat comfort, including widened side bolsters, improved cushions, and redesigned materials following customer feedback.

usually reliable and comfortable

I've been impressed with LNER over the last couple of years - trains almost always on time (unless there are circumstances beyond their control), helpful friendly staff, trains pretty comfortable.

Lovely Experience but With One Big Downside

Lovely staff all around. Enjoyed the food. Seats were very comfortable. The one big downside was (due to a sad event) our scheduled train was cancelled and we had to switch trains. That was fine. Where the problem lie, was that we didn't get anything close to the same seating as we had booked. I specifically scheduled this train ride many months out so that we could take advantage of the views on our 4 hour journey. Sadly, once we had to switch trains, the seating was helter skelter and people were scurrying for better seats than they had originally. We ended up on the opposite side of the train and had to sit where the view was coming from behind us. It would seem fair that passengers riding first class would get preference to a similar seat as the one they chose rather than passenger seating being "first in line." It really put a damper on what was planned as one of the highlights of our trip in the UK.

Good service and enjoyable journey

Train ran on time with clear announcements throughout the journey. Carriage clean and comfortable seats. Friendly and helpful staff on board. Impressed that they regularly came round to collect rubbish - good additional service on a long journey. We did book in advance to ensure seats together and secure good ticket price.
