I have never used a more glitchy software in my life. Although the concept is good in theory, there have been so many times where annotations/ highlights were deleted after hours of work. The wrong article is shown when trying to select files. Forget about using the extension in chrome that only works 20% of the time. Absolutely infuriating, I would rather go back to my old method of doing my referencing by hand, at least it is reliable.

It just removes your painstakingly organised folders with random updates. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

I had previously used Mendeley 5y ago, and recently came back to use it. Had a quick look at reviews to check if it was still the best free reference manager. Decided to check it out again.

Very frustrating to use now:
1. Web importer is very slow and clunky.
2. Multiple logins to load the program even though I'm using it on a daily basis.

Tried out latest version of Zotero and comparing:
extremely easy to use Zotero including importing from Mendeley, using the importer from Chrome (amazing as needs only a single click compared to Mendeley).

It's just unbelievable how bad the app became. I still have the regular Desktop version installed on my mac and it's the only usable version so far for the following reasons:
1) SEARCH. Desktop version indexes all your douments and allow to conduct search by words inside all your library. The new version of the app (Mendeley Reference Manager) can't do that. It only searches through titles. Moreover, the search function is just broken - when I try to search something and then return to the list of my files I can't just delete what I've just searched. The window is stuck in a search mode. And this problem persists for a few months already, which makes it unusable.
2) The old version has much more intuitive design, even though its much older look.
3) The old version works much faster on my M1 Mac. Why?

Finally, why did you stopped the iOS support? It allowed me and my wife to conduct a research while on the go with our iOs devices. Please return the app back. We're ready to pay a proper amount of money for the subsription.

I can go on with the reasons why I don't like what is happening with this service, but first of all, I would like it to survive. It's really sad when such an essential instrument just getting worse and impacting the work flow.

I just completed my PhD while using Mendeley.
4 years ago I initially tried Qiqqa, Endnote, Zotero and maybe a few others but I decided to stick with Mendeley.

I found it difficult to use. It added no real benefit to making my work easier. Its features were pretty basic and its search functions and OCR were ordinary.
To complete my thesis I ended up running Qiqqa (which had its support stopped a few years ago) and Mendeley together to get efficient referencing.
If I started all over again I would not use Mendeley and not in the future.

I have been using Mendeley extensively over the past decade and have regularly recommended it to colleagues and students in the past. However, my opinion of Mendeley has greatly diminished recently due to serious problems with sharing folders with research team members. This has been quite a limitation, but even worse than this limitation is the response or utter lack thereof from technical support. The support staff clearly have no idea what they are doing and no interest in helping users or even showing any courtesy to users. As a result I will be transitioning to alternative reference manager software.

Mendeley is not prioritizing fixing the date and urldate fields. If you are not aware of this, all web pages do not show the correctly formatted (yyyy, mm, dd) and access date, which is very serious, and they will note this to you in the exams. I would suggest using a professional citation tool that actually prioritizes showing correct citations. Amazingly, Mendeley has a guide on their website with correctly formatted citations - their own software cannot do it correctly, though. It is false advertising. Use Zotero instead.

11 of March 2021, mendeley decided to "switch off" their mobile app....so it means I have lost instance access to my books and references (I can not download them for instant access in my ipad)....It is "of course" a "business decision".
I will also make my own decision and switch all my references to another service that value customers. Mendeley sucks!

Was a once great program, but the removal of automated citing, and the removal of public groups without an explicit warning has caused me a loss of 20+ work hours. Sad to see a great service getting carved down to a almost pointless, and, for that matter, useless state

I can 't say anything bad, I use this app because it's free for me as a student . it's very important. I think if there are drawbacks here, I just didn't notice them because of the lack of payment. There is an app for your phone, there is syncing. Yes, I need to fill in the fields for the added book , the app itself does not do it well, but only once, then everything is very convenient in the office . I'll give you five to make the company grow

They refuse to update their software to Word 2016/Office 365. They have now had years to do it.

Their software is unusable unless you can get an older copy of Word.
